Francesa hasn't appeared to be as angry with the Giants as many of us. Francesa has defended the Giants on so many circumstances (i.e. Diehl's play in 2012).
The Giants have a very polished way of answering questions without really saying much. Kudos to Reese for his style but I hope Francesa digs a little deeper.
Not sure what to expect from this interview.
Mara is usually very forthcoming when he is on Mike's show.
you should check some of them before you say that.
I posted a long analysis last week. From 2008-2012, the Giants had 28 picks in rounds 2 through 7, only 7 are even in the league and only 2 are impact players. 25% in the league, 7% impact players.
objectively it's clear that the foundation was beginning to age even as they were winning SB46 and the players drafted were not going to be able to replace them.
but lately people have been commenting like the whole organization suddenly doesn't know what the fuck they're doing.
I would say that is a fair assessment of this organization's 2013 season. Sometimes I wondered if everyone in the organization had been invaded by body snatchers. I was so close to calling Randy about it. Really, I was.
"When youah got ridda dat Supah Bowl/Big Game clawk, why didn't youah put anothah clock up in its place countin' down da days 'n hours until February da 1st?"
maybe it's a generational thing, I don't know. But reading BBI you would think the Giants organization is one of the dredges of the league instead of one of it's best.
No team has a better list of accomplishments over the past 7 years than the Giants and this FO
with the JJ injuries...TC started this and it is vastly overblown...Mara covering for TC....he was injured very slightly-nothing to hamper his development like this-ridiculous....
Nicks...still think he can be very good player. If not with us, hopefully with someone else. Not his best year. Had a lot of company. Still think quality receiver.
But this Mara interview sounds like a cleaned up version of last weeks press conference.Hopefully he didn't praise Jerry Reese after saying we need better players.
the the option routes-will continue. Easy throws to TE and RB will not happen. Screens will not be emphasized. Players will not be in proper position-will have to adjust to system.
Jernigan...takes time for players to develop. Victor Cruz plays same spot...didn't get a chance...another thing...he kept getting hurt with nagging injuries.

Word I hear is that #Falcons personnel man Lionel Vital has inside track on #Bucs GM job. Marc Ross, Morocco Brown, Lake Dawson also in mix.
aren't playing because they aren't good enough? Was anybody overly impressed with Brewer? Does Moseley inspire confidence? If these guys were ready they would have played. I don't by the favoritism crap. And the JJ narrative is becoming tiresome. 2 games doesn't wipe away 3 yrs of looking lost when he managed to be healthy and on the field. It's stupid to bust on the coaching staff for him.
in round 4. If you reasonably project Eli to play 5-7 more years, then what would you be grooming him for? If you need a backup in case of injury, you get a proven backup vet who could take over and keep you competitive. By the time Eli's ready to retire, Nassib will be long gone. Made no sense to me
RE: great to say that the younger guys need to play. but what if they
I think Reese's point with the younger guys was that a lot of times you don't really know if they can or can't play until they get a chance.
Obviously if a guy looks like total shit in practice or hasn't shown anything he shouldn't just be put into a game for no reason, but..
I'm not even saying he's entirely right. But he clearly said that you see a lot of teams around the league with young guys contributing on the field and basically insinuated that he'd like to see more of that here. He himself is kind of the starting point for getting kids good enough to play in here, though.
Brewer has been here for three years. Only now are we learning that he can't play.
We fans are just learning. I think TC and the staff probably figured it out alot sooner. If they didn't Diehl and Boothe or Cordle would not have been brought back

but we do demand excellence. The emphasis on developing young talent faster will go against TCs instincts but is right. Lets hope they can get him to listen, and that Reese picks the right guys in the draft.
the Nassib pick (and giving up a pick) looks ridiculous.
This is the type of drafting the Giants need to get away from (going for the project/reach/homerun pick) and instead go for the more "sure" pick that can help the football team in a hurry.

Wow, I didn't realize how poorly the organization has done in the fourth round. I thought it was more of a recent phenomenon.

It could be argued that we would have been better off addressing a position other than QB in the 4th..Also, different regimes pick differently, so to draw much conclusion from the picks could be a wasted exercise

Thank you HJ45!
Maybe the reason why we picked a backup QB in the 4th round
but a piece at that which people seem to never mention about the Nassib pick; although his direct impact isn't readily apparent on the field, he can provide a nice insurance to Eli while also providing a nice cap savings moving forward.
Everyone is so caught up in saying he'll never play and if he is needed due to an Eli injury we could just sign a vet ... but with him you have a 2nd string QB locked up for $500K-788K for the next 4 years. Kyle Orton this year made 2 mil. Jason Campbell is making 2.3 mill next year. Those types of veteran backups who could come in and can win a game or two take up a chunk of cap space. For a team that is cash strapped for the next couple of years, and assuming Nassib progresses into a QB who can win games, at the worst he frees up some cap space for what it would cost for a backup QB.
They were forced to play Pugh due to the injuries. Deihl was going to be the RT. That alone tells you they wanted veterans in there whether they could play or not.
With the limited number of practices, how do you accurately tell if a young player is ready. Only way is give him 1st team reps and let him play. They never did that until forced, and still played Deihl. There was no way 1 of the other guys could be worse than being a turnstile.
The Bears basically said screw it, we are playing 2 rookies on the right side. Dallas played a rookie C. NO benched their starting LT to go with a younger guy.

But there was an implication that Gilbride retired before a decision could be made -- obviously Gilbride fell on the sword.
Hahahahaha!
Doesn't merit blowing whole thing up. There is a time to do that, but not now.
Lot of injuries...missed on too many draft picks...FA's haven't worked out.
Likes 2013 draft class...first three players will be very good players for long time.
hand in hand not playing younger players to prepare them.
RB's all hurt.
therefore it is on Reese. He buys the groceries
Hopeful Wilson will play again, but time will tell. Has talent. Can't be only RB. Need rotation. Hopefully get Brown back and maybe look at draft.
All about allocation of resources. Salary cap.
Love to have Tuck back.

He's right. And that is how it should be. If you don't like the offense or defense, or ST or than change the head coach.
Want Brewer to play better.
Mosley...they like.
Have age on OL.
Tuck still has tread left on tires.
Tough decisions to make.
100%.
I have never figured out why folks haven't figured this out yet.
Jerry Reese says David Wilson will have surgery on his neck this offseason. On WFAN.
So what in the world are they waiting for!?

Both Mara and Reese have alluded to younger players needing more experience and needing to get a chance.
Those guys, any more than backups, are going to put us in a similar position to last year.
Agreed. Fighting to try and get the back up position to a QB that hasn't missed a game in years. Worthy of a 4th round pick? Yeahhhhh.
agreed. just incredibly stupid. and they gave up a pick to get him.
At least you'd know.

If we were all confident he is the #2 next year, and capable of winning a game???= Good pick.
Nobody on this offense has played at a functional levelfor a year and half now.
