NFT: Which country has the best food?

ItsShowtime : 1/18/2014 3:34 pm
Trying to taste more and more foods. Lately I've been craving Peruvian food. Ceviche, Lomo Saltado, and their rotisserie chicken etc...and their desserts are delicious. When I went to Argentina their steak and poultry were out of this world. Mexican is also another favorite of mine because I had a Mexican girlfriend and she and her family would always cook me great dishes although I had no idea what they were called.

Right here in the States. We can get any style we want any night of the week.
I haven't spent enough time in France...

I'm not sure I've ever eaten better than I did in Italy, particularly Rome. The US has so much regional variety though; between Cajun food, the different varieties of Southern barbecue, regular old steakhouses, not to mention the different immigrant communities' Americanized versions of their traditional cooking, we're tough to beat.

You should try out soonest. And while kimchee isn't for everyone, some are hooked immediately,so give that a shot as well. And Soju (Korean liquor) has become one of the most popular in the world...get a few shot of it with dinner.

Hate Italian. Red sauce gives me heartburn and the rest I generally find bland as fuck.

I second Korean BBQ. I generally like most Latin foods, particularly Brazilian and Mexican.

Whatever it is, throw some Mozzarella and red sauce on it. Doesn't matter what it is, Mozzarella on it.

If it doesn't look/taste right, throw some oregano on it. Call it ___ Parm.

Fin.

I'm partial to Belgium.

The old saying best puts it- the flavor of french food in the portions of German food.

Try carbonnade flamade, a moules pot with frites, or a waterzooi pot and a glass of Belgium beer and you tell me if a better meal exists.

Well I like all foods but Belgium is one of the best !

Never had a bad meal in Greece
jcn56 : 1/19/2014 9:31 am : link
just the right mix of influences from Europe and the Middle East. Too bad most of the Greek restaurants over here pale in comparison to what's over there.
In Finland they have some good dishes

very often. Half the reason it tastes so good is because you dont eat it all the time.

I'd bet that the US has the best food though.
Italian
giantsfan227B : 1/19/2014 11:47 am : link
If you find a good Italian restaurant in the US, especially NY I think that is the best food and very diverse.

I am not that much of a red sauce fan. I tend to go more for northern Italian foods that cook a lot with white wine, garlic and oil but whether you have meat, veal, fish or how they sautee the veggies, it is tremendous.

In my limited experience overseas...
Grey Pilgrim : 1/19/2014 12:18 pm : link
I'd rank the cuisines:

French - Had a pistachio egg claire that was so good my head basically exploded after eating it. Creme Brulee and beef bourguignon- doesn't get much better than that.

Italian - Very good, but not amazing like in France. I've been all over Italy and the best italian resturants are all in NYC. lol

Chech - Prague - Interesting and enjoyable cuisine.

Dutch- Very good indonesian food in Amsterdam.

Viennese - Bratwurst stands galore - totally awesome.

Bavarian - High quality pretzels!

English - Best hamburger I ever had was in London.

But I'd venture to say that NYC probably is the best. Took a food tour of Chinatown over the holidays and it was amazing. The tour company has several tours linked below. Highly recommended.

Sadly, Italian restaurants in Brooklyn ain't what they used to be. Plenty of great pizza places, and there are still excellent upscale Italian restaurants, but the great old mom and pop stores that used to have the fat grandmother in the back cranking out a mean Sunday gravy are becoming a thing of the past.

I've eaten abroad were in Croatia and Montenegro. I was only in Italy for an hour and can't really compare but it seems as though food from the entire Adriatic region shares some common influence. The steaks put ours to shame.
I hear the food

Restaurants can pay to have their bad reviews removed.

The Michelin guide is much more reliable.

Even the food you picked up while on the run, say in a mall, was great. Couldn't find a bad meal there.

Spain was "eh".

Italian is #1 for me, everything tastes good there
PatersonPlank : 1/19/2014 5:58 pm : link
and the only food I like in France is down near the Italian border where its heavily influenced by Italian food. Second choice for me would be Israel/Middle Eastern.
Mexican
AnishPatel : 1/20/2014 12:41 pm : link
food I really like. Being Indian, I would say I'd rank Indian food like this:

Gujarati food
Punjabi Food
South Indian

Next, I do enjoy Italian food followed by Thai and then Chinese food.
Peruvian is one of the best

Ceviche, Papa La Juanchiana, Carapulca, Lomo Saltado. All amazing dishes.
Probably the U.S.

Since the U.S. has New York, which crushes every other city in the world when it comes to quality and variety.

This.
I admit I'm biased,
PEEJ : 1/20/2014 1:02 pm : link
but the cuisine of Italy is my favorite. Partly because it's so regional in nature.
The food in Sicily is different than the food in Rome or Tuscany or Venice. And it's all incredible.
The main thing the regions seem to have in common is the use of fresh local ingredients in simple, but appealing ways.
virtually every cuisine has great dishes
Greg from LI : 1/20/2014 1:03 pm : link
Some more than others, but I don't think there's any one of them in which I haven't found something to enjoy.

it sucks. gravy fries is the best thing to come out of canada, and while awesome, there's just not a lot after gravy fries.

no offense to my canadian Giants fan brothers.
Not only is Italian number 1 but a long distance

but you can get a blow your socks off meal for a very reasonable price in any city (non-tourist restaurants). Also, house wine at restaurants is as cheap as soda here so that is good too.

I don't even think Canadian
pjcas18 : 1/20/2014 1:44 pm : link
bacon is Canadian. I've never seen it there.

I think it's french fries.
eh, who knows?

I've been to Canada twice, once to Vancouver and once to Niagara Falls. Food was pretty much identical to here.
I judge my canadian
pjcas18 : 1/20/2014 3:06 pm : link
food from bugaboo creek.

just kidding, most of my Canadian experience is Montreal and Toronto. And the food is awful. which I find ironic that the Canadian restaurant at Epcot is the best. Of course there are high end steakhouses that are decent, but otherwise not much.

Plus, my best friend growing up is Canadian (Toronto) and his mother cooked like the mother from Better off dead. We ate mostly at my house, but when we had to eat at his house we begged his mom to make frozen weaver chicken (a staple at their house) because anything she actually had to cook, beyond heating up, was risky. Very risky.
It's got raisins in it.
