Antrel Rolle Trying to "Sell" New York Giants to Jermichael Finley http://sport-ne.ws/17qx #nyg #giants #packers #NFL

Tom Rock & #8207;@TomRock_Newsday 19m
Antrel: "(Finley) was telling me Ben McAdoo is a brain, that he’s going to keep defenses guessing, he’s very smart. I just said ‘Yes!’"

Tom Rock & #8207;@TomRock_Newsday 20m
Antrel on Finley: "He said that he would love to be a part of the Giants."

Interesting stuff, I doubt he can pass a physical anytime soon however.

I really don't want.
Ten Ton Hammer : 2/4/2014 7:35 pm : link
He's kind of a knucklehead, and he's silly enough to have called out aaron rodgers publicly for not getting him the ball enough.
that is interesting
Matt in SGS : 2/4/2014 7:38 pm : link
the Giants are a very conservative organization when it comes to neck injuries. They seem to have a lower tolerance in their physicals and fail players that other teams would pass (again, going back to Al Wilson from Denver in that trade).

Bad move
Vegas Steve : 2/4/2014 7:41 pm : link
He drops too many passes anyway

Rolle should get us some LB's
Besides the injuries...
section125 : 2/4/2014 7:41 pm : link
can't forget those passes he dropped in the NFC divisional game in 2012.
No thanks
gmanod : 2/4/2014 7:42 pm : link
Damage goods...one good hit to the dome and waiver wire it is
Can the bastid block?
mrvax : 2/4/2014 7:43 pm : link
Yes/No?

The Giants go through tight ends like crazy. They always get injured and their head concussed. If Finley weighs only 245, he'd probably not last very long on the team.
on a prove it deal
GMenLTS : 2/4/2014 7:45 pm : link
100% yes.

Long term, not so much. Fortunately I don't think there will be a big market for him so a prove it type deal could very well work out.

He has drops and injuries to overcome but he's still a starting TE that can open up the middle a little. Something we sorely need.
If Finley is cleared to play next year..
arcarsenal : 2/4/2014 7:45 pm : link
It wouldn't be a bad opportunity to get him cheap.

I wouldn't sign him and call it a day but I'd certainly be ok with throwing him into the mix.
I suppose that if Finley was signed
mrvax : 2/4/2014 7:48 pm : link
the Giants could always cannibalize parts from Adrien Robinson. Maybe Reese can use Robinson for something after all.
the position needs to be addressed in the draft and/or FA
GMenLTS : 2/4/2014 7:51 pm : link
could do a lot worse than locking up jermichael headed into the draft
Finley
stretch234 : 2/4/2014 7:52 pm : link
A guy with totally suspect hands and an unwillingness to block. Not the type of TE the Giants need
different attacks
area junc : 2/4/2014 7:52 pm : link
under the old system you say no way but as soon as mcadoo was hired this made a ton of sense. mcadoo actually lives in this era and utilizes his tight end in the passing game

*finley drops too many balls but the fact is he's an IMPACT PLAYER at a position we currently suck at.

*he is close with mcadoo. (mcadoo used to be the tight ends coach at GB and word is they had a tight relationship)

*system install - brand new system. wouldnt it be nice for mcadoo to have a few guys in the lockerroom who know WTF is going on?

if we can come away with mack and finley in ufa it will cost $$$ but it will upgrade the team tremendously. u want bang 4 ur buck and these guys provide it
No thanks to Finley
Rjanyg : 2/4/2014 7:54 pm : link
Hey Antrell, give Scott Chandler a call please.
Sure, he's close to McAdoo
Ten Ton Hammer : 2/4/2014 8:00 pm : link
but why does that matter? And we don't know what offense McAdoo is running. It's not like any player that comes from GB is going to know the offense ahead of any Giants players. I would highly doubt they're just going to copycat everything Green Bay does.
unless he is coming on a serious minimum "prove it "
Blue Blood : 2/4/2014 8:09 pm : link
contract. We have enough issues with guys with neck injuries..
I think the more important question is-
TheMick7 : 2/4/2014 8:16 pm : link
Would/Will McAdoo recruit Finley? That would tell us a lot more than Rolle's recruiting!
...
SanFranGiantsFan : 2/4/2014 8:18 pm : link
Finley? Nah, we should stick with Myers.
Antrell Rolle
Bill in UT : 2/4/2014 8:40 pm : link
is a putz.
Finley seems he is one play away from retiring
robbieballs2003 : 2/4/2014 8:53 pm : link
and I don't mean a serious injury but even just a scare or a hard hit.

Hearing him repeat what his kid told him has to break anybody's heart.

I really think our money could be better used on a different player. If he was to come here i would hope it is on a one year prove it deal as someone pointed out before but not like Myers' deal. I don't want to eat up cap space to get out of the deal. Make it a true one year deal otherwise there are better options out there. He has been potential potential potential and has never really lived up to the hype.

Guess maybe now we know who 'Trel
FranknWeezer : 2/4/2014 9:08 pm : link
was calling out for lack of effort late in the season.
I never thought of Finley like this at all
robbieballs2003 : 2/4/2014 9:08 pm : link
but I would love to see more passion out of our players (Like Cruz but not overboard like Shockey).

Quote:
"He's an extreme talent, he's an exceptional guy,'' Rolle said. "More importantly, he's a fiery guy, and that's something we can use on the offensive side of the ball, a guy with some intensity . . . He's a guy I would love to be a teammate with, and I think we could do some great things together.''

I think we need more of that on defense as well.
Antrel
JOMO25 : 2/4/2014 9:29 pm : link
Great season, great Giant. One of the only guys on the team that plays w any fire (also Cruz, Jake, Beason).
No Thanks...over rated
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 2/4/2014 9:30 pm : link
.
IMO Aaron Rodgers is at times guilty on some misses to Finley
Neverend : 2/4/2014 9:43 pm : link
sounds crazy, but a lot of the Finley drops are lasers from Rodgers from what Ive seen going by memory. Sometimes its okay to put some air on some passes when you're targeting a TE. They're not receivers. They need time to adjust their body in position for the ball. Sometimes Rodgers lightning release and killer arm can be too amazing for his own good.

The drops when hes wide open is unacceptable obviously
who are you? Foosball? huh
GMAN4LIFE : 2/4/2014 9:50 pm : link
- Concussed Finley
Another player always injured
PaulN : 2/4/2014 9:53 pm : link
No Thanks.
Guy drops waaaaaaaaaaaay too many passes
BlueHurricane : 2/4/2014 10:25 pm : link
No thanks.
Some of his best plays
Neverend : 2/5/2014 12:12 am : link
fuck, they are his best plays actually, is when he goes up and gets those jump balls. he keeps his body so balanced in the air and makes heavily contested catches. it just wows you. Hes a special talent in that area. Throw some balls with some beautiful touch and he'll go up and get it. Eli's tremendous at that, although at times he did leave Kevin Boss exposed to bad hits because he was late and high over the middle

Trainmaster : 2/5/2014 12:21 am : link
should convince the Giants FO that we need a younger, healthier and faster team.
No injured
TMS : 2/5/2014 6:54 am : link
players please. They only get more brittle once they get a new contract like Canty etc. Use our precious $$$ on known quantities like joseph.
Guess I'm in the minority on this one, but I like Finley.
Geeman : 2/5/2014 8:23 am : link
Yeah he had the occassional drop, but his impact plays outweighed the drops. As long as he checks out medically and he came at a bargain, I'd cosign this move. Trel is right, we do need more fire and playmakers on that side of the ball.
Pass.
Victor in CT : 2/5/2014 8:26 am : link
Stick to playing DB Antrelle, leave the recruiting to someone else.
Physically gifted player,
kmed : 2/5/2014 8:29 am : link
but way too injury prone for my taste. If anyone would know if Finley is worth the risk, it's our new coordinator, so it will be interesting if we show any interest. I will say that as far as talent goes, I like Finley a lot.
I just love that Rolle is actively recruiting for us
ATL_Giant : 2/5/2014 8:34 am : link
Its not the first time he's been cited as recruiting for the Giants, I haven't heard much of that since Antonio Pierce. Whether Finely is a good fit for us is a different topic,

but keep it up Rolle!
younger doesn't always mean healthier
Geeman : 2/5/2014 8:52 am : link
see jernigan, Brown, Wilson, Prince, Robinson, Nicks, Hosley, Thomas all young players that had injury issues.
Everyone freaked out when they heard Beason was coming, but now he's indispensable.
If he is healthy, we should be all for looking at Finley
Jimmy Googs : 2/5/2014 9:46 am : link
I don't know how many "spinal injuries" we want to have on this roster, but at least Finley knows what a TE is supposed to do.

Our bumbling crew of tight ends make a few key mistakes every single game.
He
nyfan76 : 2/5/2014 9:53 am : link
was having a pretty good year before the injury. The type of year that would have gotten him a sizable contract.
hmmm...
Dan in the Springs : 2/5/2014 9:55 am : link
not sure this should be made public - am I the only person worried about tampering charges? Maybe I have his status wrong, but he isn't a free agent yet, is he? Did free agency begin yet?

I thought we were in that window where teams have exclusive negotiations with their upcoming free agents.

Like that Antrel is recruiting, would prefer this kind of stuff not get news coverage right now.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, which I easily could be.
A player can't tamper,
kmed : 2/5/2014 10:17 am : link
I believe coaches and front office personnel can.

RB^2 : 2/5/2014 10:44 am : link
This seems to indicate that Rolle himself expects to be back with the Giants, which is a matter of some dispute here given Rolle’s contract.
Rolle is a man of honor,
kmed : 2/5/2014 10:45 am : link
he is under contract for another year and is assuming that both he and the Giants will honor that contract. He probably knows that the Giants would be idiots to let him go.

Only a matter of dispute to those who don't understand Rolle's value to this football team.
Rolle needs to be extended
Simms11 : 2/5/2014 11:10 am : link
to lower his cap hit too. I'd give him a two year extension. I know he's on the wrong side of 30, but there's been plenty of safeties that have played into their mid 30's effectively (ie. Ed Reed). I think he can play well for a few more years. He's in good shape, a leader and is a major factor in our secondary.

As far as Finley, he could be a solid consideration if cleared by our doctors. He was a force in the WCO passing game and could be here too. Could possibly get him on a 1-2 year reasonable deal, given his injury history.
I think the Giants will have to give him a 3 year extension,
kmed : 2/5/2014 11:11 am : link
which would mean he's signed for 4 more years, but they can easily pay him good money, lower his cap and leave themselves in a position to save significant money on the cap in the last year of his deal if he's still not worth it.
Good point kmed...
Dan in the Springs : 2/5/2014 12:01 pm : link
I suppose one would have to prove that Rolle was acting as an agent for the team somehow, which even though he served as a captain, isn't ever going to happen.

This is good too, because I think players should be able to have these kinds of conversations without such concern.

My concern is relieved.
Just me, but why continue, now, of going after player(s)
micky : 2/5/2014 12:21 pm : link
with serious injury questions when that's what this team has been facing for past few seasons with players. Durability should be, imo, the utmost consideration taken in a player. Especially the situations the giants have gone through.
I agree, unless he comes on the cheap,
kmed : 2/5/2014 12:24 pm : link
I don't think it really makes sense for a team that seems to battle the injury bug annually.
My interpretation...
Dan in the Springs : 2/5/2014 12:35 pm : link
they are friends - were watching the SB together, and Rolle was working him over informally. That's it. There's nothing here that indicates the Giants are actually interested in him, and no reason to assume the Giants are continuing to pursue injured players.
Sometimes there are guys that are
kmed : 2/5/2014 12:40 pm : link
supremely talented that are worth the risk if you can get them at a bargain. Who better to know this than our new OC.
