Giants won't tender FB Henry Hynoski as a restricted free agent, per league source. They want to keep him for less than the tender options.
different games, or at least see them differently.
Hillis has a place on my team if he wants it.
I haven't see a RB so aware of his role and as versatile in it on the Giants since Tiki.
No, Hillis isn't a bell cow back, and no he isn't fast, but he catches the screen pass better than anyone since Tiki, yes he 100% can block, and he can run if required.
He'd be a decent insurance plan in case plan A and B don't work. I'm a lot more confident in Hillis than I am in Da'Rell Scott or Michael Cox.
If you compare Hillis to his peers he's a poor RB. The guy came in and "upgraded" the most dysfunctional running game going...maybe the most dysfunctional running game ever. He can be a backup if he wants but if this guy is getting carries for more than 1-2 games next year we won't be happy.
We should expect more out of the Giants running backs. Hillis can be the 4th guy here...that's fine.
We did improve when he came on board no question. But from a roster upgrade standpoint you should have harder cuts than Hillis to make. I respect Hillis coming in and playing his guts out for us. But there is a reason he was bagging hay or whatever he was doing when we called him up. If we want to improve we need more skilled players than Hillis in the backfield. Just saying.

You're serious? Derick Ward took shits that were more talented than Hillis. Hillis may know his role....but he's the epitome of a JAG. HE does nothing well. We need better. I'd rather draft a 5th rounder and give him the job than hold on to Hillis. If the running game falls apart again we can always go out and sign a JAG just like last year.
Again, this is like saying Raymond Felton is an all star PG, and many Knicks fan did just that, simply because the guy replaced the shittiest PGs in NBA history. And Felton is a better PG than Hillis is RB. That's saying something.
I just saw your last post so I may have jumped the gun. I don't mind Hillis as the 4th guy here. But even that may be a stretch if the Giants draft a guy in the mid rounds.
I'd perfer to see Vet, Brown (or another vet) Wilson, Rookie...but I could live with Hillis as the 4th.
guys you who can a) typically afford and b) are willing to accept the role as 4th RB are normally guys who are younger like Scott and Cox (or development draft picks).
I doubt Donald Brown is going anywhere to be the 4th RB.
Hillis IMO, is the perfect insurance policy.
He excels at nothing but can do everything. He can block, catch, and run. If running backs a and b go down, and you need a guy whose not a 3rd down scat back, but more of an all purpose insurance policy I think he can help. He's a vet min guy who I think out performs that contract.
more props than he deserves (because of his limited skill set), but he did a decent job for us last year and handles ALL the functions of a backup RB. Guy learns fast, plays hard, and does not make many mistakes. If Wilson ever does that we will be in good shape.
With Hynoski, tender never made sense. Amount wasn't in line with perception of market value
The difference is that, if he's healthy, there could be another team interested in Hynoski.
Thanks Hank.

Anyway, I'm not advocating for Hillis to be a starter or even a backup.
but as the 3rd/4th RB yeah, I think the team is better with him than with Scott or Cox.
