Stapleton The Record: RB Rashad Jennings on NYG radar

Defenderdawg : 3/3/2014 1:11 pm
@art_stapleton: I've been hearing Rashad Jennings' name as another RB potentially on #NYG radar if Oakland does not re-sign him + he hits the market.
Explains why
Defenderdawg : 3/3/2014 1:13 pm : link
@art_stapleton: Jennings caught 36 passes last year + did not fumble once. Entire #NYG backfield caught 40 passes combined w/ 8 fumbles
I want...
2ndroundKO : 3/3/2014 1:16 pm : link
either him or MJD. Would love this signing.
He may be on the Giants' radar...
Klaatu : 3/3/2014 1:17 pm : link
But everything I've read says that the Raiders are willing to let McFadden walk because they're intent on re-signing Jennings.
Jennings would probably replace AB
JonC : 3/3/2014 1:18 pm : link
unless they're really concerned about DW's status.

I like RJ.
I was really
Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/3/2014 1:25 pm : link
impressed by Jennings in the Giants-Raiders game this year.
He's fantastic at picking up the blitz...
Damon : 3/3/2014 1:29 pm : link
Not a lot of mileage on him either.

They usually keep 4 RBs and given AB and DW's injury statuses and Cox's unproven-ness, adding another good back is to those three is almost a given IMO.

arcarsenal : 3/3/2014 1:30 pm : link
Jennings is the best FA RB on the market.
He was on with Jim and Pat the other day on MTC
YAJ2112 : 3/3/2014 1:31 pm : link
he sounded very impressive. Definitely would be a good guy to add to the locker room
This is a Reese type signing- a guy slighly under the radar who
GmenDynasty : 3/3/2014 1:32 pm : link
has the talent to emerge as a very good player. he has already shown signs of being a pretty darn good back.

Would prefer him over MJD as MJD has a TON on mileage.

The cliff in terms of drop in production for running backs is pretty steep and he is awfully close to the edge.
.
arcarsenal : 3/3/2014 1:32 pm : link
As Klaatu mentioned, though.. the Raiders are pretty serious about retaining him. Odds of him signing with NYG are probably not all that high. Would love to add him, though.

Eric from BBI,

I agree. I came away very impressed by the way he ran. I think someone in a previous post may be right. I thought I heard they would keep RJ and let Darren M. walk.
Is Moreno an option?
Pete in VA : 3/3/2014 1:32 pm : link
He had a good year running and is said to be a good blocker. He's from New Jersey I believe. Too expensive?
Under the radar?
Klaatu : 3/3/2014 1:33 pm : link
See arc's post.
great to hear
area junc : 3/3/2014 1:34 pm : link
we usually go for guys who play well against us and jennings had a helluva game in NY last year
radar
JonC : 3/3/2014 1:35 pm : link
Not at a repeat of AB's contract from last season, ie $2M+
I like Jennings
pjcas18 : 3/3/2014 1:36 pm : link
better than MJD, Moreno, or Donald Brown.

Just don't want to use a lot of money on the position.

May have to though.
i think they would let DRC go
GMANinDC : 3/3/2014 1:37 pm : link
before Jennings. They got a new GM there, so I would think they would make the smarter move and keep Jennings
Jon
GMANinDC : 3/3/2014 1:38 pm : link
I think Reese hinted that he was concern with DW's status. Didn't he say something like, it would be smart to depend on being the #1?
I think Toby Gerhart is a more realistic option.
Klaatu : 3/3/2014 1:39 pm : link
...
G
JonC : 3/3/2014 1:42 pm : link
Yes, and given that I know first-hand of the neck injuries, it's understandable.

My point was more to say that RJ would stand a good chance at replacing AB on the roster, rather than having DW/RJ/AB plus Cox. We're not going to pay our #3 RB $2M+ on top of UFA $ to RJ, etc.
should have said wouldn't
GMANinDC : 3/3/2014 1:57 pm : link
...
Jon
GMANinDC : 3/3/2014 1:59 pm : link
Oh, I agree. that wouldn't be smart at all. I think any FA that we sign is going to replace Brown..
G
JonC : 3/3/2014 2:02 pm : link
Agreed it's likely, unless AB's willing to take something close to vet min.
Jon
GMANinDC : 3/3/2014 2:04 pm : link
Brown taking the vet min is a good possibility given his history of being injured every season. I don't think any team is going to give him much more..
I said similar things a year ago
JonC : 3/3/2014 2:19 pm : link
and NYG slapped a #2 tender on him.
Considering he had another injury
GMANinDC : 3/3/2014 2:30 pm : link
NYG should be very cautious before trying to tie money into him.. There's quite a bit of FA RB's out there who are more healthy..
Rashad Jennings also whipped the Giants ass
KooKoo4Giants : 3/3/2014 2:35 pm : link
when he was in Jacksonville in the 2010 season game.
Jennings seems pretty average to me
djm : 3/3/2014 2:36 pm : link
But an average back that can catch, run and block capably without fumbling would help this team. I donlike Jennings more than Tate or gerhart. At least this guy would bring credibility to the position and who knows maybe his best days are ahead.
won't need him
Davisian : 3/3/2014 2:38 pm : link
After getting Charles Sims in the 3rd..
I don't think there will be much of a market for Andre Brown...
Damon : 3/3/2014 2:43 pm : link
Oft injured... And didn't help himself toward the end of last season.
Davisian
shocktheworld : 3/3/2014 2:53 pm : link
Sims is a stud player. True all around back, and I'm hoping we can land him 4th round. Dudes legit

He carried the ball 7 times for 53 yards in that game.
2nd Rd K.O.
Blackbeard : 3/3/2014 3:20 pm : link
How did you manage to last until the 2nd Rd.?
He sounds like the kind of well rounded back that the Giants need

Isn't Jennings getting up there in age…..
Simms11 : 3/3/2014 4:17 pm : link
compared to all the others available? RB's don;t last very long in this league and I know he hasn't had a lot of miles on him, but there is some wear and tear. He might be a nice addition for a few years at least a stop gap measure until the GIants can figure out the position. It also gives them potentially another year without having to use a draft pick on one, unless there is someone we love in the late rounds.
Simms11
Toth029 : 3/3/2014 4:59 pm : link
Mostly, RB's are stop gaps anymore or are here to split carries.

Jennings age isnt an issue if he hasn't gotten a lot of mileage on him to tear down his body. A 3-4 year deal would be ideal.
Our offense needs some flash at RB
Jimmy Googs : 3/3/2014 5:16 pm : link
they cannot just show up with AB again as our running back by default with some lesser guys rotating in.

Just mind-boggling how many new starters we could use on this offense...

Jennings
BigBlueinChicago : 3/3/2014 5:28 pm : link
has only carried the ball 387 times in his 5 years in the NFL.

To put that in perspective:

The Giants 11 ball carriers combined last season ran the ball a total 381 times.

LeSean McCoy led the NFL in total carries in 2013 with 314.

He literally has no mileage on him at all.

Add in his receptions, and he has touched the ball 484 times while losing only 3 fumbles.

His age is the only
Vegas Steve : 3/3/2014 7:38 pm : link
question I could be wrong but he is nearing 29 and like most RB's he has an injury history

Moreno or Jennings a close 2nd
giantranger : 3/3/2014 7:51 pm : link
Charles Sims sounds like a better idea than either
Clarify
djm : 3/3/2014 8:00 pm : link
I DO like Jennings more than Tate or gerhart.
I like that Jennings is a little older
djm : 3/3/2014 8:03 pm : link
The one position screaming for a vet presence here is rb.

Sign Jennings and draft a rb like Sims works just fine for me. Jennings Wilson rookie... Sign me up.
I'd like him on the cheap- real cheap
TheGM : 3/3/2014 8:41 pm : link
I think it would be foolish spending money on a FA RB with all the holes we have to fill. RB should be one of the last positions we try and upgrade IMO.
David Wilson
PEEJ : 3/3/2014 8:51 pm : link
is the only RB under contract (I think). By definition the Giants have to sign or draft some RBs.
I'd like
Jerry in DC : 3/3/2014 9:10 pm : link
to get a reliable guy who can be a real NFL RB - Jennings fits that bill, as do a few others. I'd take the cheapest of the group - they're all just fine OK-ish RBs. None are difference-makers, all are useful for a team in our situation.
Jennings is well thought of around the league...
Torrag : 3/3/2014 10:00 pm : link
...chances are one of the many franchises with more cap dollars to spend will outbid us for his services.

A solid option in our price range is Gerhart. Gets the tough yards. Solid citizen and leader. Very strong on the blitz pickup. The type of back that will be an asset for years to come.
His stats are unusual IMO
mrvax : 3/3/2014 10:55 pm : link

He has less than 400 carries total in 4 years. Why wouldn't a good RB be sparsely used? In any case, with only 1 career lost fumble and over 30 passes caught last year, he might make an interesting signing.

I sure hope Wilson makes a strong comeback.
Have a feeling
RetroJint : 3/3/2014 11:08 pm : link
he will be a Giant. I thought Jennings & Bell on Detroit were very impressive.

LOL what.. are you serious.. who is running the ball then..

Wilson is coming off an injury.. Brown and Hillis are FA's so even they would need to be resigned..

Michael Cox while the object of many jokes is NOT the answer..
Jennings
stretch234 : 3/4/2014 6:59 am : link
He has played 53 out of 80 games. He gets dinged up a lot
