Jermichael Finley has drawn interest from the Giants

Boston Globe NFL writer:

@BenVolin: I'm told that TE Jermichael Finley, still not medically cleared, has drawn interest from the Jets, Chiefs, Seahawks, Giants and Steelers
Low expectations

given the serious nature of his neck injury.
really?
Rjanyg : 3/7/2014 3:20 pm : link
do we need another player with neck and spinal injuries?
not sure why they'd put any money into a guy who may very well be

FA tight end market is dreadful.
but Antrell

wants him ! Where 'trell at ?
He might drop a few easy passes,
kmed : 3/7/2014 3:32 pm : link
but he also catches a ton of bad ones. The dude, when healthy, is a legit NFL TE. He's a tough dude and a threat on the field. Due to his situation, he may come cheaper than he normally would have. If our dr's check him out and say he can play, I'm all for it.
Shockey dropped his share of easy passes,
kmed : 3/7/2014 3:34 pm : link
would you want him?
it is dreadful
GiantsFan84 : 3/7/2014 3:37 pm : link
and expensive. this is why i'm advocating for Ebron with the 12th pick
Using your 12th pick on a TE
kmed : 3/7/2014 3:37 pm : link
is quite expensive as well. First off, you are missing out on a value position that you will end up paying more for and secondly, you are paying 12 slot money to a TE.
I'm not in any particular favor of drafting a TE at 12
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/7/2014 3:39 pm : link
but if he's Jeremy Shockey redux, I don't care what his salary slot it, and it does address a core issue with the team.
If we sign him for anything close to what

Go get 'em Reese

I was against the martellus Bennett signing for a lot of reasons until he surprised me with his play on the field. finley may not be the blocker Bennett was in dallas but hes a really talented receiver
I swear every time I watched Finley play he was

highlight film catches but drops the easy ones. The word for those types is "loser". Like Shockey dropping that pass against SF that made Jackie Smith's SB drop look acrobatic in comparison. That would have sealed that game. The easy drops are the ones that kill drives in important spots and ruin momentum.
Ballard?
Defenderdawg : 3/7/2014 4:14 pm : link
@art_stapleton: Will be interesting to see if Arizona tenders RFA Jake Ballard RT @MikeGarafolo: Cardinals announce a 2-year deal with TE John Carlson.

said no more "gambling". Reese gambled on Robinson in the 4th round of the draft and Austin in the 2nd round. Enough is enough.
Drawn interest

Can mean that the agent called the Giants and they didn't say no. This kind of leak sounds like it comes from the player side
No one is paying him much
LauderdaleMatty : 3/7/2014 4:38 pm : link
this year. He'll get a one year deal with loads of incentives and protections for the team regardless of what they announce.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if both Finley

and Dietrich-Smith become Giants since our new OC was a Packer coach the past few years
Please Pass on this guy
Vegas Steve : 3/7/2014 5:34 pm : link
Healthy or not he drops TOOOOOO MANY PASSES!
I would be excited to get Finley at a fair price of course.
Geeman : 3/7/2014 6:27 pm : link
He's a very explosive player and wouldn't open up this offense.
As long as he medically checks out, I'm in.
For all those that are scared to sign him were probably just as fearful of a certain guy that just won the MVP and had the same concerns.
Everyone yapping about dropped passes
ZoneXDOA : 3/7/2014 8:05 pm : link
Know absolutely nothing about JF. If healthy, this kid is a beast that was under-utilized the last two seasons. 2012 he had a down year but he was engaged in making the needed improvements and worked hard to self correct, it showed toward the end of his season just before a freak injury took him out. I think a change of scenery and a focus on incentives in his contract will light a fire that will rejuvenate this freakish athlete. There really is not much difference between JF and Marty B and I'd take either TE in a heartbeat! I'm on the bandwagon.
Jets just re-signed Cumberland
Defenderdawg : 3/7/2014 8:20 pm : link
Manish Mehta ŝ@MMehtaNYDN·7 mins
It's a three-year deal for Jets TE Jeff Cumberland, per source. #NYJ believes he will take that next step in 2014.

Another TE off the market
We have to stay

away from players like this......look how much cap money we had on IR last year.....
Jermichael Finley

is not close to the run blocker that Martellus Bennett is
That's fine
AnishPatel : 3/7/2014 10:32 pm : link
as long as he doesn't suck. We can put him in places to succeed like having him arc release and get backer or safety, rater then doing what other TEs did prior in our system.

Scott Chandler
Rjanyg : 3/7/2014 10:54 pm : link
Lord please don't let Reese sign another injured player. Chandler is a solid mid level FA and would help in oth the passing game and run game.
Beason was a injured player
BigBluDawg : 3/7/2014 11:01 pm : link
And allot of posters hated that we traded for him, Now the same posters are begging Reese to resign him. The same thing could happen with Finley.
Why worry about the TE spot?

Giants are very big on continuity
GmenDynasty : 3/8/2014 10:44 am : link
Giants are also very good at due diligence and thoroughly researching guys medical histories and future prognosis. Its why they took guys like Tuck, TT,Webster and Kiwi high.

With a new coordinator they might want to bring in as many guys as they can to help with continuity and familiarity.

Finley also might come on the infamous 1 year TE deal to prove his worth. From a salary cap standpoint that could be a big plus and he most certainly would be an upgrade to Myers last year.
the neck injury thing

Giants will do there homework and possibly work him out if they can.
Why are they even thinking of
section125 : 3/8/2014 11:30 am : link
a guy that has a serious injury? We already had both Kiwi and Wilson under contract, so salvaging anything is/was good. But Finley is not ours and leave it that way.
I think this will

end up being McAdoo's call as much as anyone else's. It's been a very long time since the Giants brought in an outsider on offense who, it would seem, have more influence on personnel decisions. Gilbride or no, this has been Coughlin's ship for a while. However, in order to get McAdoo to accept the OC position and not move on to another team in an interview, I'd have to think the Giants organization gave him more authority (over the assistants for one) and likely the personnel to fit this new scheme that he will be bringing here.

What will be interesting to see though, is how many Packers he does bring here. But if you go back to when TC joined, we didn't see an influx of former Jaguars. Even with when Fassel came, we didn't see a bunch of Arizona Cardinals (there were rumors he was going to bring Larry Centers, but that never happened). The last guy to come in from the outside and bring over "his guys" was Dan Reeves in 1993 and 1994, the whole "NJ Broncos" tag that Pepper Johnson gave it.

If Finley comes here, it's because the doctors ok'ed it and McAdoo has plans for him.

BIngo. I like alot of what you said here. But keep in mind when TC came in, he was essentially building a new program/system/team identity from scratch with a the future franchise QB in Eli. McAdoo is coming in under totally different circumstances. While he will put in a new system, alot more pieces are in place here talent wise and the expectations to compete much more quickly.

Giant medical staff passed Carlos Emmons. Since when does the OC call personnel shots? Coughlin doesn't even command that perch, after 2 championships & 10 years? A guy off the street selects his players? Utter rubbish. As always, this will be Reese's call. And Finley represents the low-lying fruit.
Yeah good call,
kmed : 3/9/2014 8:04 pm : link
he probably won't ask MacAdoo about Finely who he's coached recently. MacAdoo won't be involved in that decision.
