wait for the year when every mock drafter doesn't have us picking a LB in the first round. If it isn't Barr, it's Mosley. One year we will do it, but I'd be stunned if it happened this time.
Not a system fit at all. Only LB that should make us pause is Mack. He could be better than Willis and a perfect in any system due to elite versatility in his skill set.
But he's a tough guy to figure out. He's only played defense the last 2 years - but he actually looked significantly better in his first year to me. He looks like a great fit in a Pitt style 3-4, but I don't think he can play 4-3 DE.
I do not want to go near this guy. I agree with JonC, he is not a system fit. And to make this be the guy we finally use a first round pick for a LB would be wrong on many levels.
So, I've officially moved from Evans to Barr and the guy I do not want hearing his name called.
Pass rusher isn't really a core skill for a 4-3 WILL btw Â
is the only talent that might give Reese and his scouting team pause to consider at #12, but it's sounding like Mack is close to being a lock in the Top 10.
There is a linebacker who fits the Giants in this draft, and it isn't Anthony Barr. It's the one who can play all 3 spots in the 4-3,run with tight ends and backs, and hits like a ton of bricks.
Question is does Jerry Reese have the guts to take him.

If Mack is there I think we run to the podium. He is a rare gamechanger at LB and would team up with a healthy JPP to give us 2 of the best defensive players who can also provide pass rush in the NFL IMO
BOTTOM LINE
Anthony reminds me a lot of the Giants Mathias Kiwanuka. The Giants drafted Mathias and made him a linebacker because they couldn’t get him on the field as a defensive end, because of his size and work out numbers. Mathias also lacks the lateral agility to cover and string out running plays to his side of the defense and has become a solid player, but never the impact player he would have become if they used him as a defensive end in their 4-3 defense. The same thing will happen if teams decide to use Anthony as a linebacker. In coverage it will be easy to separate from Anthony and tight ends will take advantage in third and short situations. Anthony has natural pass rushing skills to impact right away, and in the future the ability to be stout against the run as a defensive end in a 4-3 defense where his lack of lateral agility becomes less of an issue. A player that plays defensive end in a 4-3 defense relies more on taking correct angles, strength, and turning plays inside so linebackers can make the tackle. Lateral agility is not needed to be an excellent defensive end in a 4-3 defense. I really like Anthony’s potential to be an impact player at the next level but not in a 3-4 defense that everyone seems to feel he is a perfect fit for just because that’s what he plays in college. In that defense, I think he becomes a solid player but not an impact player. But as a weakside pass rushing demon in a 4-3 defense…to me that’s the position he was born to play and make an impact in. Now I know I will be the lone wolf howling in the wind suggesting Anthony fits a defensive system better than the system he is playing at the college level. But what can I say? That’s how I see it.
And will go for them in the draft early and often. If the Giants feel he has GARGANTUAN upside as a DE or DE/LB hybrid pass rusher then I could see this.
The Titans after missing out on JPP though, I think pluck him at 11.
Some of you guys have to stop pigeonhole analysis Â
and recent NYG attempts to develop a "hybrid" have proven unfruitful. PF's system doesn't really utilize OLBs very well, and his schemes tend to be pretty regular on the DL, further.
It depends on where you think he's best deployed, I don't think it's 4-3 DE or OLB. He looks like a 3-4 OLB in the 49er/Steelers/D-Ware mold to me.
BOTTOM LINE
Anyone who has been involved in a Category 4 hurricane understands how steady, relentless and continuous those winds are until the damage is done. Aaron is continuous, relentless, and just keeps pounding away at the offensive line until he does the same structural damage a Category 4 hurricane does to your house. Just when you think you have him under control and he might be calming down, Hurricane Aaron comes at you with just a little bit more power, quickness and force and rips though your backfield to complete the structural damage to your offense and make an impact play. He will make a quarterback scream “Can’t anyone block this guy?” in the huddle at the offensive linemen. Aaron has remarkable mental stamina. Aaron is a package of thunder in the middle of a hurricane and a force to be reckoned with for every offensive coordinator. You can use him on the inside or the outside on your defensive line. You can use him in a 4-3 defenses or 3-4 defense, in a 1-gap or 2-gap system. You can use him on the nose on passing downs. Hurricane Aaron will have to be accounted for or he will cause structural damage to your offense…you catch my drift? That’s the weather report for today.
There is going to be ALOT of dominant potential at 12, which is why you don't tkae Zack Martin.
Well said... A pick I wouldn't complain about... I still feel the O'line needs more attention... lets see how the draft and a couple of free agents address that issue

Because a player that projects to be better than Justin Pugh and makes Eli safer in the pocket isn't an impact player? He just lets the real impact players (Eli, VC, Rueben Randle, etc) have chance to make an impact.
the top "blue chip" tier of this draft is (in no particular order):
Clowney
Mack
Watkins
Matthews
Robinson
Donald
Next tier:
Evans
Ebron
Lewan
Gilbert
Fuller
Barr
If any player from that top tier is available at 12, the Giants should jump at them regardless of position or need (with the possible exception of a QB needy team but even that's debatable with these QB's as I feel there's too many questions on all of them). I think once you get beyond that first tier you can factor in need a bit more.

Barr might be there for 4-3 teams if they feel he can hold up and rush at DE at his size.
But his 3 cone was a 6.82 which is pretty darn good for a RB let alone somebody his size.
Love the 3 cone time for a guy his height and size. And also to dominate the way he did so quickly after just converting to the position is a very good sign as well.
If the Giants feel he can play DE in our system , he could be on the short list. I just think the Giants like a little more size on their DEs if they are going to pick them round 1.
Anthony Barr actually is taller and weighed in more at the combine than Damontre Moore who was drafted as a DE. Considering he weighed in at 255, there is no reason to think he can't play in the pros at 260-265 which is not a bad weight for a DE. I would still draft Donald over him unless we keep Linvall Joseph.
it's just one component, you have to know what you're seeing when you evaluate a player within the context of his college system, and how he would project to an NFL system, etc.
He's more similar to D Ware than he is to Kiwanuka, imv. If NYG thinks he's best suited to 4-3 DE in the NFL, so be it, they certainly know more than me. Well, I said similar things about Sintim and they drafted him any way.
Exactly. We don't need another 3-4 LB to convert, especially one who's still learning how to be a LB after being a RB two seasons ago. Here's a mock quote: "No Thank You Please" - Jon Beason
Very disappointing (to me) in that Stanford game.
I'd pass up almost anyone in this draft for Mack. And I am usually not big on first round LBs either for our system. He is that special IMO.
Barr is a downhill small space player, point him at the QB and unleash.
So, I've officially moved from Evans to Barr and the guy I do not want hearing his name called.
I've heard he's got a suspect attitude as well, some question the heart and motor, fwiw.

...better start on your Valium therapy now, because there's a real decent chance Anthony Barr hears his name called at #12.
And then take a deep breath.
And then wait two years and watch him become a holy terror at OLB in a 4-3!
The Giants won't be playing fantasy draft in May. They gotta focus on the players who are likely to be there FOR THEM!
And Khalil Mack ain't one of them.

They have too many holes to fill.
Mack probably won't be there (Bills or Tampa Bay), but it is definitely not outside the realm of possibility.

Sorry unless it is for an absolute blue goose stud LT (Lewan maybe) , you don't pass that up for a Zack Martin.
Further in about 1 week we may see our drastic need for OL drop a bit as we are likely to be quite aggressive in FA.

That is true. Pick up a decent FA guard, and/or center and things become manageable on the O Line.
