Free agency tampering period: Tweets, notes, rumors thread

Defenderdawg : 3/8/2014 12:02 pm
After all:

Ding! It's noon. The NFL's legal tampering/negotiating (but not offering) period of free agency has officially begun. Clear the phone lines.

Patricia Traina& #8207;@Patricia_Traina17 secs
And we're off! The official legal tampering period has begun. Good luck to all the NFL writers who have to chase down every rumor.

Jennings, Golden Tate, Jermicheal Finley

will be cost prohibitive. "Pedestrian" my ass - he is a very good receiver and a return man.

He hasn't had a monster year yet (partially due to system) so while he may not be cheap he won't be astronomical either.
There are at least a half-dozen teams whose needs are similar to ours.
Klaatu : 3/8/2014 12:16 pm : link
But who also have much more cap space. I don't see us winning too many bidding wars.

Why don't we keep this thread strictly news.
define monster year
bc4life : 3/8/2014 12:21 pm : link
drafted in 2010

2012 he had 688

2013 he had 898

and he is a very solid punt returner.

One of the best wrs in the FA market. And, he is just hitting his prime
so when can deals be offered? accepted?
JOMO25 : 3/8/2014 12:22 pm : link
?
I would say monster year
Big Rick in FL : 3/8/2014 12:23 pm : link
Is over 1200 yards. Has Tate even had 1000?
Please
Jon in NYC : 3/8/2014 12:26 pm : link
no Golden Tate. More noise than substance.
Ryan Mundy of interest to the Bears?
Defenderdawg : 3/8/2014 12:29 pm : link
Code:

"The rules say that negotiations with the agents of free agents may occur starting at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, but that no contract may be executed (i.e., signed) before 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The NFL has supplemented the rules with a memo, a copy of which PFT has obtained, articulating a warped interpretation of the standard in a way that makes it pointless to try to negotiate anything.

The rules say negotiations may occur. Last years memo says no agreement of any kind may be reached. This years memo tries to bridge an unbridgeable gap of logic.

The memo permits a team to [s]ubmit a written summary of the clubs negotiating position, to [e]xpress its position as to signing bonus, length of contract, amounts of signing bonus and yearly compensation, and other items, to [a]djust its negotiating position in response to a certified agents position, and [e]ngage in an oral exchange of positions.

However, the team must say that its only articulating a negotiating position, not making an offer. Under the memo, no offers can be made, and no express or implied agreements can be reached."

Arthur Jones expected to be in heavy demand. The Tennessee Titans could be a strong fit, per a source. Will be several teams involved

Safeties that might interest #Bears include Ryan Mundy, Mike Mitchell and James Ihedigbo. If Emery goes big on D-line, need value DBs.

Bucs are gauging trade interest in OL Davin Joseph, according to teams who have spoken to them. Very doubtful he's back in TB either way

Joey in VA : 3/8/2014 12:34 pm : link
Schwartz, Veldheer, Monroe and I want a big physical RB who isn't always breaking something. Andre Brown would be great if he wasn't a china doll, it's time to cut bait on him IMO and find someone who can suit up every week.
Golden Tate
bc4life : 3/8/2014 12:35 pm : link
898 receiving yards in 2013 - about 100 less than Cruz - that's more noise than substance?

to fall in love with magic numbers - no interest if there's less than a 1000 yards as a wr. As someone already pointed out - Tate's production was related to the offense.

And, Myers had 700 yards as a TE - have to look at the film and se what they are capable of.
Exciting time!
bceagle05 : 3/8/2014 12:42 pm : link
Far more excited now than at any point during the regular season. Lot of new faces this offseason.

Talib
Regarding Davin Joseph:
Anakim : 3/8/2014 12:49 pm : link
RT @PFF_Pete: Davin Joseph has a -73.7 grade in the @PFF era, by far the worst of any guard.

He hasn't been the same Pro Bowl player since his patellar tendon tear
Most
Toth029 : 3/8/2014 12:50 pm : link
Of those guys will cost a bundle, especially Verner.

I suspect they re-sign McBride and look at draft for a future starter at CB.
Davis and Verner will be big money guys.
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/8/2014 12:50 pm : link
Talib is a looking to be a big money player, and he's kind of a knucklehead.
All aboard the Justin Gilbert train
Anakim : 3/8/2014 12:54 pm : link
I wouldn't mind giving DRC a 2-3 year deal
Not really that high
Big Rick in FL : 3/8/2014 12:55 pm : link
A good year would be 1000. He hasn't had that. Last year 25 players had over 1000 yards and 15 of them were over 1200. Definitely not that high of standards.
Tate isn't a #1
Joey in VA : 3/8/2014 1:05 pm : link
And may not be a #2 but he's a good returner, special teamer and reliable WR. He brings a lot to the table, but he's not going to wow you in any one area. I'd like him just for the intensity, I'm getting tired of the humdrum attitude on our team, specifically the offense. Jacobs and Bradshaw were our straws, Snee as well, and we lack those at the moment.
we need to play this smart
Bradshaw #44 : 3/8/2014 1:18 pm : link
and not starting throwing major money out to players just to fill spots. Out of that list, I would like Talib and the rest we can move in another direction. The draft is the deepest in years and we can load up there. I wouldn't go on a shopping spree in free agency.
Manish Mehta ‏@MMehtaNYDN 1m Details of Jeff Cumberland's three-year
nygiants1114 : 3/8/2014 1:20 pm : link
Giants need to sign contracts to players like this. Essentially 2nd rookie contract. Good contract for Jets for a 2nd TE. I know JR likes to get that salary benefit for veterans but 2 or 3 year deals for around a millon could provide less turnover and more security.
My bad.

Dolphins driving up OL prices
Defenderdawg : 3/8/2014 5:04 pm : link
"According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins used the early moments of the leagues legal tampering period to express their deep and sincere admiration for the top free agent offensive linemen, with particular interest in Chiefs tackle Branden Albert and Rams tackle Rodger Saffold.

They also made contact with the representatives for Eugene Monroe and Jared Veldheer to cover their bases, but a source described the Dolphins as most interested in Albert, and willing to pay big money for Saffold to play guard."
