Giants made offer to Tuck

EddieNYG : 3/8/2014 12:47 pm
But he will test free agency.
Link - ( New Window )
So much for wanting to stay I guess.

As he should. Very good player; hope he returns,
kickerpa16 : 3/8/2014 12:49 pm : link
but there is no reason he shouldn't see what others are willing to offer him.
The 2 are not mutually exclusive.
kickerpa16 : 3/8/2014 12:50 pm : link
He can still want to stay, and see what he's being offered by others. That's a very rational and reasonable response...

Can't blame him for wanting to test the market.
Klaatu : 3/8/2014 12:52 pm : link
This is most likely his last shot at a big payday.
I would doubt Tuck gets any offers
BillT : 3/8/2014 1:03 pm : link
In this first round of negotiations. I think he's a second tier player given his age and injury history.
.......
Doomster : 3/8/2014 1:06 pm : link
Tuck likely won’t come cheap. His agent said last month that he is “by far the most complete d-end in this [free-agent] class.”

Must be a weak class.....
Dude, what to you expect his agent to say?
Klaatu : 3/8/2014 1:09 pm : link
If we're lucky, big-time offers will be few and far between and we'll be able to re-sign him on our terms.
Yeah. Find me one person that doesn't blow up their skills
kickerpa16 : 3/8/2014 1:11 pm : link
on their resume and LinkedIn profile, and then maybe I'll be critical of Tuck and what his agent is saying...
He
AcidTest : 3/8/2014 1:12 pm : link
got an offer. The Giants are saying "here's what we think you're worth and/or are willing to pay. See if you can get anything better in the open market. Give us a chance to match."

I think he's gone. Less sure about him than Joseph of course in that regard. He's over 30 and has an injury history. But FA is historically about overpaying, and somebody might do that because of his sack totals, even though most were obtained against the Redskins.
Tuck was very upfront about
nyynyg : 3/8/2014 1:29 pm : link
wanting to test free agency. He said that the opportunity only comes a couple of times and every player deserves the chance to explore it.
I'd hate to see Tuck in another uniform, but I wouldn't begrudge him
jcn56 : 3/8/2014 1:35 pm : link
for wanting to test the waters or leave if he found greener pastures. He's been a great Giant, was instrumental on two championship teams, and has always conducted himself with class.

All that said, I don't think we should have offered him much, and I expect that someone else will pay more and he's gone. If that's the case, thanks JT and looking forward to your Ring of Honor induction.
I have a feeling he'll be gone
illmatic : 3/8/2014 1:36 pm : link
some team will see the production from last year and in past years and will be willing to overpay for the big name. Especially at that position. The Giants won't want to match that.
I would like him back
MyBoyBlue : 3/8/2014 1:46 pm : link
But at a team friendly price. On a side note, I just saw that he posted a picture of a Lion on his Instagram. Hopefully that has no meaning but why a picture of a lion?
Think
TMS : 3/8/2014 2:10 pm : link
his sack production last year is not a true picture of his ability anymore. We have to know that, other teams will not, and offer more than he is worth. A lot of teams do that. Thats why the team who is letting them go are the best judge of what a player (especially and older one)is really worth. If someone is fooled he will be gone.
He doesn't get lucky with a high bid
spike : 3/8/2014 2:32 pm : link
then he will come back to NYG
...
SanFranGiantsFan : 3/8/2014 2:55 pm : link
Probably my favorite Giant of this era, next to Eli. It would suck to see him in another uniform, but as much as it pains me to type this, I'm not breaking the bank for Tuck. I still think he's a good player-he's still really good versus the run-but he's on the back nine of his career. I'm all for him returning at a reasonable price.
I think Tuck is going to get a lot more than people imagine
oipolloi : 3/8/2014 3:21 pm : link
5/25 with 10 million guaranteed is my guess

i know some will say that is insane but those 11 sacks loom large
at this point in Tucks career
AnyoneButPhilly : 3/8/2014 3:25 pm : link
I don't see a team breaking the bank on him and if someone does I can see it being one of those deals where he is cut after one mildly productive season like Kevin Boss or Gibil Wilson

I agree with this. Some team with tons of cap space and a need at pass rusher will overpay for the name and the perceived production last year.
Let Tuck go
geelabee : 3/8/2014 3:43 pm : link
Find a way to keep Joseph....and I want to see the Giants draft Aaron Donald at #12...then look OG in Round #2
It's a safe bet his agent is looking at the contract Suggs got
JonC : 3/8/2014 4:02 pm : link
and it using it as a guide, $7M or more per season.

He won't get that via UFA, and my educated guess is NYG offered around $4M.
Tuck is going to get some decent offers
Blue Blood : 3/8/2014 4:08 pm : link
because he is still a solid two way DE.. plays the run extremely well..
You bet the

Raiders are going to call
He's not getting a long
RAIN : 3/8/2014 5:12 pm : link
contract or a lot of guaranteed money. He is constantly banged up and on the wrong side of thirty. I would offer him a three year deal with only the first year guaranteed. The money could be anywhere from 3 to 4 million per. With a team option on the rest.

The notion someone is going to offer him big money or multiple years ignores past history. He's a good team player. If someone is going to overvalue him, so be it. I hope its not us.
Go to Oakland
mattlawson : 3/8/2014 6:00 pm : link
Get paid. See you in a year for vet minimum after they cut you
5/25!!
BillT : 3/8/2014 6:04 pm : link
I think closed to Osi's 2/8.5
Wouldn't you like to know
Headhunter : 3/8/2014 6:05 pm : link
what the market thinks about you? You don't have to take a job with another organization, but if you worked for 1 firm your whole career, it would be at the very least to find out your worth. This is 0 disrespect to the Giants
Tuck
Simms : 3/9/2014 3:13 pm : link
Has earned the right to test the waters. He should grab all that he can, as it seems he is having a harder time staying on the field. A football career is short as it is, you never know when it will end.

Just hope its not in our division or with the Jets.
