TE questions

Is a guy that would make sense on paper, but his combine numbers do not jump off the page at you, that is for certain, plus he does not block, which in our new system may not be as important, but just keep one thing in mind, Coughlin is still here, and I am not so sure he will want a tight end that does not block with the 12th pick.

Evans/Donald in round 1 and then grab Niklas or C.J. Fedo in rounds 2-4.

Are we done waiting on A Robinson, the "JPP of TE's"? What's the consensus on him now?

Yes he had a frustrating year last season but we all knew he was extremely raw when drafted. He hopefully will show huge improvements over OTA's, minicamp, and training camp.

Have given up on Robinson but I don't think the team has. I still have hopes for him, that being said I'd love Nikolas in rd 2 or 3

Re Adrian Robinson, the situation isn't nearly as bad as many BBIers are making it out to be and the general sense of impatience is... what's the word? misplaced.

Robinson wasn't expected to contribute in his rookie season. He was having a very good training camp last season when a serious foot injury derailed his sophomore season. He returned to the field in December, obviously much too quickly, and reinjured himself. Note that this is a guy without a major injury in his football career, so we aren't talking about someone with a track record of fragility.

while also being a threat in the passing game, Ebron's not it. If they want a pure pass-catching TE, he fits the bill, although I don't see him as worthy of the 12th pick.

I'd much rather land Niklas or Fiedorowicz in later rounds than take Ebron at 12.

Is he head and shoulders better than the rest of the field that it warrants the 12th pick vs. a TE in the later rounds? I don't think so. People look at his frame and a few highlight reels and think Jimmy Graham or "today's NFL", but I don't see him going that high. For all of his amazing catches, he has too many inexcusable drops for me. He's a better blocker than given credit for but far from the best in this class. This may not matter as much in McAdoo's O as Gilbride's but only time will tell. He's not even the most explosive TE to me. That would go to Oregon's Colt Lyerla or Tennessee St.'s AC Leonard. If not for their background I'd be more inclined to take them (Leonard I'd still take a flyer on in late Day 3).

Is Ebron the #1 TE in this class? I have no problem saying that. But is he the #12 overall talent? No and just because it's a glaring need at the moment doesn't mean we reach for it either. JR always speaks about a mix of value and need. Picking Ebron would go against those principles. There are several other TE's in this group that can be strong contributors in their rookie season I'd rather have.

he's really not a Tight end in my book. There is so much more versatility a blocking TE adds that I wouldn't consider one who doesn't block well.

I hope we wait till round 3 or higher before we look for a tight end.

If Amaro were available at 43, I'd strongly consider it. Jenkins too. But Feidorowicz at 74 might be the best value.

Based on JR's draft history, he doesn't generally deem the TE postion worthy of a 1st round pick. He always seems to take the attitude that decent TEs can be picked up later in the draft or via bargin FAs.

Maybe it is A Robinson's time to shine? This will be a make it or break it year for him. Too early to give up but a solid plan B is needed if he is plan A.

He may be a good blocker but as I watched in various ND games last year he is not totally sure handed.
He is NOT 1st or 2nd round material.

What I like about Ebron he can catch the high throws and run very well after catch. He reminds of Vernon Davis (not saying he will be)

Ebron, Amaro, and Jenkins are polished and effective blockers, I think it's gotten way too free around here to say that none of them can block worth a lick.

The college game is different, and from clips I've seen all 3 have shown an ability and a willingness to block. Work needs to be done and they all need to improve consistency, but too early to say they all will never be able to

If he wants a TE that can create match-up problems then maybe he wants Ebron. Blocking isn't rocket science. He can certainly improve in that field.

at #12. I think, although not the prototypical DT the Giants look at in a 4-3, he could be a real difference maker. He just makes plays - strong and athletic. I think he might even be too quick for NFL Guards. He uses his hands well and has good burst. he can be very disruptive. A guy you want in the middle of your D IMHO.

Absolutely no chance that happens. I'd definitely take him in the 2nd round. He'd start for us right out of the gate. He has NFL size, strength, hands, and blocking ability. He just needs to work on a few things. He's not the most athletic TE in the draft, but for a guy who's 6'7", 275, he has good speed an athleticism. I'd go Donald, Martin, or Lewan in the 1st and Niklas in the 2nd.

You nailed it. I like him or Martin at 12.

no TE in this draft worth the 12th pick. Ebron does not provide the blocking component to be a two way TE. He is primarily a receiver and not the best one available for that high in the draft. We look later in the draft or at FA after the june 1st cuts. IMO.

I thought Ebron, but I think Evans will be the safest pick at 12.. A productive TE will be available in the 3rd round..

Crockett Gilmore. Here's some of what Bob Rang (CBS Sports) says about him …

Natural hands for the reception. High-points passes, showing impressive hand-eye coordination, timing on his leap and overall body control. Competitive blocker who gets a solid initial shove on the defender and works to sustain. Shows some nastiness as a blocker, knocking defenders to the ground when he senses them off-balance.

Gillmore's stock is again on the rise as he made some eye-popping grabs as a late injury replacement at the Senior Bowl practices and the game, itself. Considering that he has only played the position for three years, Gillmore offers intriguing upside which could earn him a selection above other, more polished and well-known prospects at the position.

He's probably the best for-the-money TE in the draft - knocks people down, good hands, excellent coordination to make the hard catch and even has some running back jukes ! A mid to late round steal.
