That suggests to me the kid didn't make much progress.

Not really sure how the Giants can justify keeping 3 QBs again this year but I suspect they ...might not have much of a choice unless Nassib REALLY shows major progress.

3 QB's would be a bummer considering 1 is likely Curtis Painter. Shouldn't Nassib be able to be the primary backup after 2 NFL camps and 1 full season on the sidelines? Not knocking him, just asking.

Dan, everybody is different and it is tough during the season because it isn't like Nassib is getting a lot of reps in practice. Nassib, if anything, was probably more of a scout team player which means he was running different offensive plays for the defense. We will find out soon enough when they starting having OTAs, mini camps, training camp, preseason games, etc.

DanMetroMan : 3/26/2014 8:24 am : link
I just think Curtis Painter is so awful that the "giving up the season" scenario where Eli God forbid went down would still happen. In fact, if Eli went down for an extended period and the Giants went with Painter I think BBI would have a meltdown. He's absolutely awful.

Clean slate for Nassib
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/26/2014 8:30 am : link
just like it's a clean slate (relatively) for Eli.

I think it's a lot to ask for a rookie QB to have absorbed Gilbride's offense and been a viable backup in one camp. Even Eli wasn't good his first year.
Curtis
DanMetroMan : 3/26/2014 8:35 am : link
Painter... 14 career games 51.6% completion, 6 TD, 13 picks, 9 fumbles

career record in games he's appeared in? 1-13, his 2-8 with a pick vs. the Redskins was his first appearance in a game where his team won, that includes 8 starts in 2011.
Yeah, I could understand if our backup QB were halfway decent
jcn56 : 3/26/2014 8:36 am : link
Then, fine - Nassib was green. But Curtis Painter? I figured they wanted him as a good luck charm just in case Manning went down and they were aiming for the first pick in the following draft.
Thanks again defender,
kmed : 3/26/2014 8:42 am : link
this is some great stuff. I was watching the NFL network this AM for a bit and caught most of the Chip Kelly stuff. It was quite annoying and the media found about 15 different ways to ask the same thing. Kelly was sort of dancing around the issue and basically made it clear that it's Howie's decision to manage the cap.

I 100% agree. He has the worst noodle arm I have ever seen. With that said, he is still needed to get through training camp and the preseason and you cannot just appoint Nassib the backup QB position without him earning it.

He's had some fairly nasty injuries since he was last here, but hopefully his presence is enough to light a fire under Randle & Jernigan.

If I'm Coughlin & Co. and I feel I'm not getting 100% out of any of the young WRs, I'm pulling the Manning to Manningham tape. Showing it to the young WR and asking them, "Do you really think I have a problem with starting him over you?" (even if it's just a bluff)

Coughlin believes the most difficult part of the new offense will be the verbiage. He described the new offense as extremely "verbal."

But he doesn't believe that will be a problem for Manning. Coming from the first family of football and with a good head on his shoulders, the transition shouldn't be too rocky. That doesn't mean Coughlin expects it to be a breeze.

"In the beginning, there is a lot to learn. There is a lot of be able to comprehend. I don't care how you do it. It's apples and oranges. It's Chinese vs. another language," Coughlin said. "But you have to get to where you're communicating with each other. In order to do that, he's really going to have to focus. Now, with his intelligence, it's not going to be real difficult."

Gittleman (Panthers) was quoted last year saying . His philosophy in drafting and getting players was based on his talks with Coughlin saying "big people make you competetitive " and influenced the devlopment of the Panthers defense last year. Which really turned around, with their two 1st picks on defense. Smashmouth is Giants football.

So Coughlin thinks the Raiders are still in Los Angeles?

Alrighty then...

Or, he's pretty sure they're moving back

Good stuff, thanks
Mario Manningham intrigues me a lot

He should be totally healed by camp and hungry. I think the West Coast offense will suit him well.

Look, if the OL does come together and stays healthy the offense has a chance to develop as the season moves along. I don't expect too much early as it is all new so run Jennings and don't turn it over. Let the defense and specials keep us in the early games. Or maybe I am getting ahead of myself here! LOL!
I don't know about Manningham

he had a setback at the end of last season after coming back from a difficult injury and was IR'd (for the playoffs of all things).

I would not be surprised at all if we hear a lot more about him not being ready to go for OTAs, camp, and maybe even more.

I hope not but we'll see.
So Coughlin lied:

Coughlin says its going to hurt losing Justin Tuck, Linval Joseph and Keith Rivers from the eighth-ranked defense last year.

Can you spot it?

Haven't lived in tri-state area since 95', but I've had NFL Sunday ticket every year since its been available and haven't missed a game since - not a single game.

Just moved to a new house, and didn't even realize that the treeline in my backyard is too close to allow proper line of sight for my satellite. Couldn't hook up the damn thing this year - thus, I'm now without GIANTS FOOTBALL IN MY OWN HOME.

I'm so fucking pissed, because in 20 years I haven't been more excited to watch this team as now (except maybe in 08' - that was fun).

Color me skeptical.

The performance the last two seasons gives me no confidence regardless of TC's attitude. Of course he's happy, he still has a job and it's March. If he could only treat the media like this year round.
