Orr Star-Ledger: Is Trindon Holliday more than a return man?

Defenderdawg : 3/26/2014 12:14 pm
“He is just like Percy Harvin, he’s just four inches shorter,” [D.J.] McCarthy said in a telephone interview. “He’s faster than Percy. He’s quicker than Percy. Percy is just 6-foot, 200 pounds. Trindon Holliday is 5-5, 170 pounds.

“You just have to put the ball in his hands. I don’t know any other way to say it.”

He's a turnover machine, he may have the highest fumble rate per touch than any player in the NFL
I think Mr McCarthy
Jon from PA : 3/26/2014 12:23 pm : link
needs to work on his math...

He's also a smurf.

your children for good grades.
I would doubt it.
chrispisano66 : 3/26/2014 12:28 pm : link
I think the point of Holliday is to be strictly KR/PR to relieve Randle, Jernigan and Wilson of those duties.

Those 3 haven't quite developed as originally planned and with a new offense they get to focus solely on their primary positions.
I want to see him
AnishPatel : 3/26/2014 12:31 pm : link
on WR screens. Maybe him in the backfield as well in short yardage situations. If the old plays are in this system too, then perhaps on reverses we can see him.
So essentially he's exactly like Percy Harvin
kmed : 3/26/2014 12:32 pm : link
only much different?
LOL
ZogZerg : 3/26/2014 12:32 pm : link
One of the dumbest quotes I've seen in a while.
He is no where near Percy Harvin as a player.
If TC
NJGiantFan84 : 3/26/2014 12:32 pm : link
does not have faith in his ability to hold onto the ball, we won't be seeing very much of him at all. He also is not like Percey because you can run those end arounds to percy due to him being a receiving threat. Holliday is not much of a receiving threat at his size, unfortunately. I like the signing as there is big upside and little downside. I am just keeping my expectations level.
He is a little guy for sure
Johnny5 : 3/26/2014 12:33 pm : link
Here he is being pwn3d by a kicker.

And I'm 5'3 so I can say that. I do weigh a buck 80 though... lol.
What are the current rules on wearing gloves?
ATL_Giant : 3/26/2014 12:35 pm : link
His diminuative hands could benefit from gloves that put more friction and increase surface area on the ball.
that just means
Rocky369 : 3/26/2014 12:36 pm : link
your a fatass. and I'm a fatass so i can say that.
Me.. fat?
Johnny5 : 3/26/2014 12:50 pm : link
Nuh-uh. I ain't super lean right now, for sure... but I am far away from fat. I'm getting old but I'm still a muscle-head.... lol
If he was
old man : 3/26/2014 1:15 pm : link
wouldn't Denver have added him to that offense?
Although, maybe in this new offense, he's a catch-go out of bounds so you don't fumble-kind of receiver
Old man,
Randy in CT : 3/26/2014 1:16 pm : link
then teams would never get players from other teams.
I don't think Denver...
BillKo : 3/26/2014 1:22 pm : link
needed him to contribute to that offense. I mean, look at what they did, highest scoring team ever.

Now, the Giants you'd think should be able to get this guy involved in 1 or 2 plays every game where he can at least go deep and draw coverage, or conversly simply get deep and make a play.

His size limits him incredibly, but a few plays a game, even as a decoy, can be the difference in scoring points that win you a game.
I'm surprised
mrvax : 3/26/2014 1:28 pm : link
that a person weighing in at 170 pounds can actually play in the NFL. What would happen to him if he got tackled?
ehhhh... it smells a bit like Sinorice Moss
ATL_Giant : 3/26/2014 1:44 pm : link

You can put some plays
bc4life : 3/26/2014 1:44 pm : link
in for him. Put him in motion or Cluster him with a few other wrs and the defenses would have to account for him. Being that small, I think he'd struggle to get off the line using him any other way.

Personally, I'd settle for just doing returns with no fumbles.

Baker was 160 pounds. But he was 5'8''.

except
Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/26/2014 1:49 pm : link
Moss never did anything on the playing field.

Holliday has six return TD's in two years.

Isn't Desean Jackson just why over 170? To a certain point, speed trumps size.
Holliday is the Receiver of the Future... and always will be.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/26/2014 1:52 pm : link
The Texans drafted him as a return man and project. Nearing his 28th birthday, that's still what he is.

The fumbling is pretty amazing. On a per-touch basis, he fumbles more than five times as often as Tiki Barber. Even at his worst, Tiki fumbled less than a quarter as often as Holliday. The problem mostly manifests on punts, which is unfortunate, considering the League's ongoing phase-out of kickoff returns.
Dave Meggett was 5'7"
oipolloi : 3/26/2014 1:54 pm : link
weighed 180 when he came up

Darren Sproles is 5'6" and 180 lbs

small guys with tremendous quickness have succeeded in the past. If he can stop the fumbling, it is not inconceivable that he could contribute on offense
Not one

Jimmy Googs : 3/26/2014 2:35 pm : link
doesn't a guy have to be on the field for a fair amount of snaps for these reverses, WR screens, backfield tosses to work effectively?

Otherwise the few times Holliday lines up with the Offense it is a dead-giveaway that the ball is coming his way.

Trindon needs to be the best returner he can be and hold onto the ball. Lets save the cutie-pie shit for later...
His first fumble
KooKoo4Giants : 3/26/2014 2:37 pm : link
and he will get benched for 8 straight weeks. Stubborn coaches

George Young....
BillKo : 3/26/2014 2:58 pm : link
"Speed is the great equalizer."

If you use him in the right situations, he can be very effective.

And Eric is right, this guy made more plays last season alone than Moss did his entire career.

Not necessarily. He can be a decoy. And if no one picks him up, then he can become an actual option.

plays with attitude, something sorely missed on the Giants. If Wilson cannot play that will definitely increase his chances of playing on offense. I wouldnt count the guy out before mini camps even begin.

I was about to say that Holliday reminds me of Refrigerator Perry. Only he's like 4" shorter.
