#12 Pick- Worst Case Scenario?

drkenneth : 3/27/2014 8:45 pm
(in no particular order):

1. Bortles- Gone
2. Mack- Gone
3. Robinson- Gone
4. Watkins- Gone
5. Matthews- Gone
6. Manziel- Gone
7. Lewan- Gone
8. Evans- Gone
9. Barr- Gone
10. Donald- Gone
11. Gilbert- Gone

I think Bridgewater drops, 2 QBs in top 11. Is this worse case scenario? So we are looking at:

-Dennard?
-Martin?
-Ebron?

Whatcha' Thinkin'?
if

Dolphins and take martin.
Based on your draft
BigBlueinChicago : 3/27/2014 8:51 pm : link
that would mean Clowney would have dropped and is available for selection.

I'm taking him if that scenario presents itself.

Lol...Good call. My fault-

1. Bortles- Gone
2. Mack- Gone
3. Robinson- Gone
4. Watkins- Gone
5. Matthews- Gone
6. Manziel- Gone
7. Lewan- Gone
8. Evans- Gone
9. Barr- Gone
10. Clowney- Gone
11. Gilbert- Gone
I would run up
SuperRonJohnson : 3/27/2014 8:55 pm : link
with Clowney's name as fast as possible.
I agree about the trade down.
81_Great_Dane : 3/27/2014 8:56 pm : link
But a "worst-case scenario"? This isn't drafting 5th in a 4-player draft. A dozen very, very good players will be available at #12. It may not be someone the Giants (or BBIers)are hoping for. No one may fall unexpectedly. So?

And there is a very good chance a Hall-of-Famer will be picked after #12, and there will be "What if" posts about that on BBI for decades, even if the Giants get a HOFer themselves at #12.
I was too late!
SuperRonJohnson : 3/27/2014 8:56 pm : link

Guess I have not kept up well enough, how did Teddy B go from 1-3 to after our pick? One Pro Day?
What about Carr at QB?
Bobby Epps : 3/27/2014 9:24 pm : link
By all reports, he had a great Pro Day.
If Carr and Bridgewater were still there at #12
SGMen : 3/27/2014 9:34 pm : link
TRADE DOWN as someone will want one of them.

I have been saying if you move down 3, 4 or 5 spots you may still be able to get Martin to boost the OL.
Worse case
GmenDynasty : 3/27/2014 9:50 pm : link
would be Clowney at #11 instead of Gilbert, as we are super strong at CB right now.

In that case it's Marqise Lee or Ebron.
I agree with Colin
AnishPatel : 3/27/2014 9:51 pm : link
from that draft site who stopped by today. If that happened, I'd go Martin then.
Zach Martin would be the worst case scenario
oipolloi : 3/27/2014 10:02 pm : link
not because he won't be a good player but because I think in the NFL he is a Guard, and that would not be good value at 12.

If they traded back and took him 20-25, I would be ecstatic, but not at 12.
Very simple.
kmed : 3/27/2014 10:09 pm : link
1) Trade the 12th pick for the 13th pick and a 3rd and 5th.
2) Trade the 13th pick for the 14th pick and a 3rd and 5th.
3) Trade three 5th rounders for a late 3rd rounder.
4) Trade three 3rd rounders for a late 1st rounder.
5) Now we have the 14th pick and let's say 29th pick.
6) Trade both of those for the 4th pick in the draft.
Martin is 'worst case scenario at 12'?
Matt G : 3/27/2014 10:11 pm : link
Never But you would be "ecstatic about drafting him at 20?" Are there 8 particular players you would much prefer at 12-19?

Draft
Colin@gbn : 2:04 pm : link : reply
Eric: I'll hit yours first; I suspect that everything else being equal that it would be pass rusher first, impact skill player at 1a and OL way down the list.

That said if the impact guys the Giants are likely targeting are off the board and there is no pass rusher worth the 12th pick (and both are real possibilities) then I really like Zach Martin who is just so technically solid as well as versatile. Could come in figure in the mix at RG right away and provide an extra security blanket at OT down the road.

THink Donald has a pretty good shot in this loaded draft especially if 3-4 QBs go.

Donald will be a heck of a pick!
The worst scenario is...
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 3/27/2014 10:35 pm : link
not getting a starter with our first pick.
Martin
geelabee : 3/27/2014 11:13 pm : link
Worst case we get a quality prospect with Pro Bowl guard potential...that has the versatility to play multiple position...basically the Giants had the same thing happened to them last year....and ended up with a quality player Pugh
We find a DE who is
Lurts : 3/27/2014 11:23 pm : link
blind in one eye.
Ebron
MTDizzle : 3/27/2014 11:34 pm : link
gotta be the guy in this scenario, we can grab a stud guard in round 2 or Weston Richburg in the 3rd/4th range. Keep in mind there is still quality Offensive lineman available in free agency. Ebron is head and shoulders above any TE available in the draft or free agency. We NEED that playmaker to help open things up for Cruz, Mario & Randle.

compared Derek Brown to Eric Ebron??? For fucks sake man, really?
Derek Brown was a physical specimen
Modus Operandi : 3/28/2014 12:36 am : link
coming out of Notre Dame. 6'6", 250lbs+ and ran a fast forty for a TE at the time. It was different time and TE's weren't used the way they are now.

You know who else liked Derek Brown? The TE guru - Bill Belichick. Then coach of the Browns. Jets liked him a lot too.
FOOTBALL; Will Brown Be the Next Bavaro? - ( New Window )
I like to believe Brown would have been a good player
David in LA : 3/28/2014 12:37 am : link
then LT broke him in practice.
Ebron is more like Johnny Mitchell
Hades07 : 3/28/2014 1:05 am : link
Than Derek Brown. I expect his career will be very similar to Mitchell's as well.

Reading is, indeed, fundamental. You should have read that the list was changed to include Clowney (you clown) and thus makes Donald available.
Did you forget Clowney?
Torrag : 3/28/2014 7:41 am : link
the guys a risky #1 overall...he's a run to the podium in ecstasy pick @12...no brainer...this is your worst case scenario lol try again.
ahh I see you altered it...
Torrag : 3/28/2014 7:45 am : link
Ebron/Donald/Martin aren't exactly chopped liver. it would be one of the three. Probably Ebron if JR & Ross liked what they saw and McAdoo's plan is to utilize the TE in a more prominent role in his offense.
Why are you guys
MTDizzle : 3/28/2014 7:51 am : link
comparing Ebron to a bunch of bums? I understand the position has evolved since then but c'mon you guys are better than that. Quite frankly so is Ebron. Any Giants fan should be thrilled if we land this kid. But hey different strokes for different folks I guess.
Draft Martin for O-line...
Jimmy Googs : 3/28/2014 7:57 am : link
this alone should reduce Eli's interceptions from 27 to about 24.

pick in rounds 4 thru 7.

Round 1 is a slam dunk. This team always gets a good talent in round 1. Worst case scenario is they still draft a really good player even if your favorites are gone. This is never an issue, not since Jerry Reese has been the GM.

Its the later rounds that this team needs to hit on. They need to finally grab a few keepers in the later rounds.
And I'm just speaking as someone who is

It is hard enough to figure out who will be available at 12. Predicting who will be left in the 4th is impossible.
Martin. Would have been nice if Clowney dropped for real though

Derek "Bust" Brown was also a first round pick. He was susposed to be like Ebron. His problem was he couldn't catch. What's Ebron's problem? Do your homework 11 drops per 100. He can't catch either all physical tools shitty prospect in my book.
Carl....
Hades07 : 3/28/2014 10:21 am : link
...Brown was bigger stronger and more athletic than Ebron though. Maybe not as "fluid" which to date is the only thing anybody has been able to say positive about Ebron.

I can't speak for anyone else, of course, but I'm waiting until after the offseason program begins - April 21 - before I do a mock draft. I'd like to see what the deal is with Beatty, Snee, Mosley, Herman, and Moore.
klaatu....
Hades07 : 3/28/2014 11:23 am : link
...I am intrigued about the OL as well. It seems no matter what they need another tackle behind Beatty and Pugh. The biggest question I have is Mosley. Maybe they think he is the answer at G. I haven't seen enough of him to say. Herman never seemed like a very good player to me, but I will be happy to be wrong. I would be surprised though if they go into another season expecting Snee to lock down RG.

Center is another big question for me. Walton was a good player, but he is 2 seasons removed from playing due to a major injury. I am nervous about counting on him for the season. Not sure it was an improvement over Baas, who was good when on the field as well. Worried we replaced one injury issue with another.
Hades07
Klaatu : 3/28/2014 11:55 am : link
I forgot about Walton, so let me say that Center is a HUGE question mark for me. As you said, Walton hasn't played in two years, and if you buy what PFF is selling, he wasn't that good when was playing, although after two abysmal years he showed marked improvement in the first four games of his third year before he got hurt.

Still, I'm not very confident in Walton as Plan A, and Dallas Reynolds as Plan B, but I'd rather not spend anymore free agent money on a guy like de la Puente or (shudder) Rendell. I'd much prefer to draft a very good Center prospect, and it's no secret that I'm very high on Weston Richburg, and to a lesser extent, Zac Kerim and Jonotthan Harrison.

However, as I've said repeatedly, the Giants haven't drafted a Center in eleven years, and then it was only in the 7th round (Wayne Lucier), so as much as I'd like the Giants to draft Richburg at #43, would it be realistic to put him in a mock draft, knowing full well that the odds are heavily against that happening?
Take the best player
ghost718 : 3/28/2014 12:00 pm : link
at a position of need

Someone who you feel doesn't show up too often. Not interested in drafting tackles who are a slight upgrade to Beatty.Or a Wide Receiver that is stiffer than Carbone in the meat truck.

There was a thread a few days back "Who do you feel will be talked about in 5-10 years from this draft". You want someone who fits that category.
Klaatu....
Hades07 : 3/28/2014 12:19 pm : link
...I think they will pick a center this year, just not very high. There are quite a few this year who could be good and since interior OL is not a high draft priority around the league, there my be a surprising player there in the 5th that they would take. Though I would only look at players who also can project to guard, if they are going to draft one he will be a player that could play either C or G.
They have no choice
