at 6'6 and 311 - he has both good foot work size and strength - which the Giants prize - in the below linked analysis - he seems to have better measurables than Jake Mathews Link - ( New Window )
The medicals were leaked and since then the questions remain.
That said, we know NYG has paid a lot of attention to Cyrus for a long time running. If they're not worried about the knee he could be in the tier at #12, imo.
for who I think NYG will take at 12...Kouandijo would be in there. The knee problem does exist...but it hasn't hampered his ability to play or practice...having never missed either at Alabama.
Grade wise he may not quite make it to the top 12 for me personally...but he is the kind of LT that Coughlin/Reese will want. I think there is a better shot at him being the guy for NYG than Evans/Ebron

This. In fact, we were talking about this very issue on another thread yesterday. Sy said CK is his dark horse pick for the Giants at #12.
I would pass, at least in the first round. Despite the subsequent clearance he got from Dr. Andrews, he did tear the ACL and MCL as a freshman. There could be lingering issues, although it's entirely possible the Giants may think otherwise. In that case, he could easily be the pick, especially with Beatty's health an unknown. I just think it's too big a risk at #12. This is Reese's most important draft in years. We're going to use a first round pick on a guy with a possibly questionable knee to take the place of a guy with a possibly questionable leg?
I'd stay away from CK for the same reason I'd stay away from Tuitt (broken foot), and Nix (meniscus damage that needed some kind of plasma enrichment therapy IIRC). This is also a very deep draft for OL.
In any even, if CK is the target, he almost certainly could be had later in the first round after a trade down.
Why isn't OT Cyrus Kouandjio in the discussion at #12?
I do agree with you in avoiding the players with significant histories already on their dossier in the first round. NYG needs to nail this draft given the state of the roster, Eli's prime, TC getting up there in years, etc.
he is easily considered the 4th or 5th best tackle available behind Robinson, Matthews and Lewan ( in no specific order ).. The Giants are picking @ 12.. If all three tackles are gone that means most likely someone else has slipped outside the top ten.. Barr, Evans, Ebron, maybe a QB.. which means the Giants might take one of those players or get a good trade down offer for a QB..
Also Martin is seen as more versatile and the Giants definitely like their OL players to be able to play more than one position...
Ive also read he projects more as a RT type.. do you take a RT @ #12 when there are probably more impactful players sitting there??
In drills he did not look flexible at all. I question whether he can handle speed rushers in the NFL and may end up at OG. If there is anyone he reminds me of it is Leonard Davis
and he's a good run blocker, but he needs some help with footwork and overall technique, especially in the hips. Kouandijo at times will hit the panic button and lose form making a bad situation worse. He was protected by a lot of NFL talent around him, especially at the skill positions and good blocking TE's which Saban always seems to have. Lastly, the last tape on him was the Sugar Bowl where he looked awful. I think that was the biggest hit to his stock.
If there is a chance you might draft the next Kenny Phillips....why take that risk when you players like Zack Martin, Mike Evans, or Aaron Donald...player that have the potential to go to multiple pro bowls and play 10-12 year....Cyrus Kouandjio @12 is the type of risky pick that has the potential to get Jerry Reece fire....

good post, absolutely abused by Eric Striker from Oklahoma, he looked very tight. Terrible combine, injury history, bad end to the season...I'd pass but I do agree with the consensus that he is in play for the Giants given his tools and potential, although it scares me quite a bit
...Beatty's health being "an unknown." Just who (who counts) does this uninformed group include? Fans - who gives a rat's ass? Other players - again, who cares? The team medical staff and management?
The only group on here that counts for anything is the last mentioned. Does anyone on here realistically think that Beatty's health is "unknown" to them? Sure, one can't be certain of performance until he hits the field, but to imply that no one knows his current and ongoing condition (and has factored that into their calculations) is foolish.

Crazy to take him at 12 with his medical in a loaded draft like this one. Now after a moderate trade down or at 43 , thats a different story.

Yup too many questions to be taken so high. Giants usually go for much 'cleaner' players in the first round.

Like back-flip Wilson? I guess they thought that was cool and all with the athleticism.
If we had to go OL in the first and Matthews Robinson and Lewan (maybe depending on what Giants feel about his character), I would still take Martin over him in a heartbeat. Martin is a very safe choice and pro ready.
A lot this year. He was far better the previous season. He was downright shaky against Auburn and in a few other contests I saw that I can't pinpoint. He seemed to be a lot slower of foot this year and much easier to get around. He's a huge guy with a ton of talent though, but his arrow looks to be pointing down.
His standing will change based on his performance at his April 8th Pro Day in Alabama.
Another name to keep in mind in the mid rounds is Nebraska OG Spencer Long. In the fall, he was considered a top O-Lineman in the draft but suffered a knee injury early this season and has become "forgotten" by the fans. His Pro Day is April 17th, and expect him to start moving up fans draft boards. He is also an academic All American and Pro Scouts are looking forward to see how he has responded to surgery.

He was not protected by the talent around him, he was a major part of that talent. He had a bad bowl game, giving up a couple sacks against a much smaller and quicker defender. That is something to look into, but his overall body of work is excellent, and for the most dominant.
they currently have 3 starters penciled in--Snee, Walton, and Schwartz--with significant injury histories. You can't add another guy at 12 with injury concerns.
Giants OL is getting to sound like the Mets starting rotation.
...with as clean a history as possible. No ACL histories in the first few rounds...just asking for trouble. Injuries have been a real problem for our club. Why take a risk with the highest draft pick we've had since parlaying Philip rivers and the #4 pick into Eli? Be smart.

Don't you know? He broke his neck doing a backflip (or maybe not).

the only other position of great need on the O is the interior so unless there is a guard graded at #12, we are going wideout.
