It doesn't seem to matter which draft site you read. These receivers show up pretty consistently in the top 100 prospects:
Sammy Watkins Clemson
Mike Evans Texas A& M
Marqise Lee Southern California
Odell Beckham Jr. LSU
Brandin Cooks Oregon State
Kelvin Benjamin Florida State
Allen Robinson Penn State
Jordan Matthews Vanderbilt
Davante Adams Fresno State
Paul Richardson Colorado
Martavis Bryant Clemson
Donte Moncrief Ole Miss
Jarvis Landry LSU
Bruce Ellington South Carolina
So the Giants, with a need for outside speed - but more pressing needs elsewhere - should be able to land an excellent prospect as late as the fourth round, right?
Here's the bad news: In a pass-happy league, nobody has enough receiving talent. In fact, at least sixteen teams have significant needs at wide receiver. Worse, more than half are playoff teams that can spare a high pick more readily than the Giants:
St. Louis Rams
Oakland Raiders
Buffalo Bills
New York Giants
Pittsburgh Steelers
New York Jets
Green Bay Packers
Philadelphia Eagles (post-Jackson)
Kansas City Chiefs
San Diego Chargers
Carolina Panthers
New England Patriots
San Francisco 49ers
Denver Broncos
Seattle Seahawks
Indianapolis Colts
So receivers who are good enough to go on Days 1 and 2 in an ordinary draft will still go on Days 1 and 2, despite the exceptional depth at the position. We might also see some marginal third rounders (e.g. Abbredaris, Latimer, Coleman, Herron) sneak into Day 2, creating a run on receivers that leaves only standard Day 3 talent left for the bottom-feeders. In other words, if the Giants want a near-term starter at WR from this draft, they will likely have to pay full price.
I don't watch much college ball, so I'm curious whether those lists ring true for more dedicated draftniks.
The Giants only need one of those guys.
The hard thing to determine in the draft is what kind of players we will look at. In the past, giants went for that big, strong, tall X. in the new O, i am not sure if that will be the same model.
I like the kid from Ole Miss. I think the 3rd is wishful thinking, but maybe in the 2nd. overall tho i think all that depth at WR in the draft will push good players further down. Everyone needs WRs, but they need everything else, too

Plaxico was that guy and when he was out, the offense suffered. Hakeem was that guy and when he was out (or just decided not to play that day) the offense suffered. Seems like this type of player is a pretty big need.
Who is that guy now?
It would be nice if all that receiving talent pushed some good OL/DL fits down a bit. The DE class seems awfully thin to be affected much - especially with the NFL's appetite for pass-rushers. DT and interior OL might see some impact.
WHAT? DO YOU WRAP THE RECEIVERS HEAD IN A TURBIN AND TURN HIM LOOSE?
Oops on the caps
Tie his hair under his helmet? .....MMM that's a Sikh.

Apologies to Sneaker O'tool.
I look at GB and guess, because that is all i can do at this point. They don't have a big stud WR. Nelson is nice. i doubt he would produce at that level anywhere else. (look at jennings) GB has a bunch of good weapons, and a stud at QB.
I agree we need a weapon in the passing game early in the draft. doesn't have to be a WR. (i don't love the idea of ebron)
2 RT Bitonio
3 Best available WR i.e. Matthews, Lattimer or Landry.
4 TE CJ Fedorowicz
5 DT Caraun Reid
5a WR Jeff Janus
6 S Vinnie Sunseri

Well it helps when your QB can throw 40 TDs and only 8 picks too lol. Eli is never going to be that kind of guy.
Jomo... I'm a Die in the wool giants fan .....but I don't know everything. When George Young came on Board I was raising five kids and worked a couple of jobs .....including sunday.
So I ask your forgiveness for not being so into the front office. I was still hurting from the years before GY and wasn't into the day by day stuff.
WRs also went off in bunches in 1994, with much less success. 96, 94 -- I guess it was all the kids who grew up idolizing Jerry Rice, and coaches who wanted the next Jerry Rice. In 94, from 17 to 45 you had 9 WRs go -- Charles Johnson, Johnnie Morton, Thomas Lewis, Derrick Alexander (the guy I wanted in NY), Darnay Scott, Bruce, Kevin Lee, David Palmer (though he was a QB/WR/RB type IIRC), Ryan Yarborough, and Bert Emanuel. 6 more in the 3rd.
It's interesting that the trend has really been to let WRs slide a bit more. I wonder why -- I'd guess it has something to do with the changes to over the middle hit rules making cheap slot WRs and move TEs a bigger part of the offense, and vertical passing a small part. I also think the NFL was overvaluing college WRs for a while.
He's my guy after the first. I hope he makes it to our second/third.
And if they 'go like hotcakes' early like we hope for top 5/6 QBs, all the better, because more of the better OLs especially and other positions/players untouched will still be there at 43. At 43, we will get trade offers for someone who wants their guy, now.
GB offense with Rodgers has been a 3 WR base offense with 1 back. The Giants do not have a guy on the outside to match the 3rd WR as of yet. They really have 2 slot guys with Jernigan.
Cruz in the slot is an un-coverable player - he is not that on the outside. The Giants need someone on the other side. Whether that is a big WR like Evans, or someone in the second with speed.
I agree with this... good comment.
