a trade wouldn't be that far-fetched.
If we an expendable and tradeable player....it would be Prince. I just don't see how all these CB's get on the field.

I..think you may be overestimating the abilities of the CBs under Prince and DRC.
Prince isn't expendable in the slightest. Who else would be qualified to start? Zack Bowman is a career backup. McBride and Hosley are smaller, probably best suited for slot duty.
I'm saying if Giants are going to make a trade......you could argue Prince would be one of the few that are expendable or other teams could have interest in. He's a solid corner.....and if you traded him, you would likely draft another corner, which would still give the giants 5 quality CB's. So for instance if you trade him, and let's say you draft Justin Gilbert, he likely starts with DRC.
You then have Thurmond, Hosley, McBride and Bowman as backups.
imagine trading Prince. Bowman must be hear for his ST abilities, and as a backup. Still seems like overkill to me after Thurmond and DRC.
Prince, DRC, Thurmond, McBride, and Hosley. Now Bowman. Are we going to carry 6 CBs? And what about S? We've got Rolle, Hill, Taylor, Demps, and Brown. That's 10 DBs. Not happening. Of course, we won't have that problem if someone is unfortunately injured, but adding Bowman seems like a lot.
Prince, Ridgers-Cromartie, Thurmond (*suspension risk), McBride, Bowman, Hosely (*injury risk) and a bunch of other guys.
Outside of Prince, RC, and McBride - the others are not locks to make and stay on the team due to concerns be they injuries, off-the-field, issues, or performance. So, I don't see the rush to trade someone - because the shelves are not necessarily overstocked.
Since the Eli era started, the Giants have very rarely even remained healthy with CB's. Rolle has had to play slot almost every year here, and Holsey, while talented has not been healthy.
You really need to have 6 CB's that can play. I would rather have a lot of competition in camp and know what guys can do vs going into the season and hoping the top guys do not get hurt.
Plus, it really is difficult to find CB who can play. They have that
Look at the games we lost year? As bad as the O-Line was... Special Teams might have been worse. Instead of JAGs for depth, viable assets on Special Teams will make sure that we don't lose 3 games due to kick/punt return TDs.
I still think Charles Brown gets signed to be the swing tackle.

Exactly - it seems almost every year we're signing CBs off the street by mid-season. This year, we're signing a dozen by April 1
Plus we may well be preparing for a Prince FA departure next year
I like that the Giants are showing they have a plan Â
basesplan based around a philosophy due to how the game is changing. They recognize the game is passer friendly and are preparing accordingly. It shows me a way of thinking that says "we see what's going on and ate acting accordingly."
We changed our O and have a chance at a highly ranked WR or TE in the draft.
We stocked up on secondary and got the 2nd best DB in free agency to add to Prince, Rolle, Hill and Brown.
I like the Giants logic, whether it works out or not on the field.
Jayron Hosley. It's time for him to mature and find some consistency to his game. He has ability but watching him you see a player that blows assignments and makes bad decisions. I hope competition brings out the best in him because he's got plenty now.

We lose Ross, Webster and Thomas ( Webster was slated starter last year, thomas as a solid backup) and replace them with DRC, Thurmond and Bowman. Where's the overkill, and what's not to like? 3 out, 3 in.
RE: This doesn't necessarily mean we're not drafting a CB Â
It just means we don't have an urgent need at CB to force a draft pick.
Would you not draft Gilbert if there's a chance you don't want to pay Prince $7-8M per next year, or the year after? Always look beyond the season at hand.
I;d also be more inclined to deal the pick because we don't really need a CB at the moment and we can use the extra picks.
It would actually be wasteful to take the CB pick at 12 at this point. There will be a lot of good players in the mid-first.

McBride isn't even a lock, and he's no spring chjicken either. It's conceiveable Hosly, or James, Or thrumond could beat him out for a spot. Likely, maybe not, but he is no Lock, I don't think.James seems to want a spot.Who knows?

Indeed. I'm pretty sure the Giants wanted more out of him by this time.
This is the deepest secondary the giants ever had. We may not give up a 300 yard passer this year? According to the facts, we only gave up 2 300 yard passers last year anyway!
depth in the secondary is a good thing and this guy has the goods. If he was brought in to also play on STs, he will dress every week. That may not be a good thing for Hosley. I also think they are protecting against the injury bug too.
RE: I dont see the issue with the number of CB's Â
The most effective way to defend against the quick release offense of Kelly's Eagles and RGIII is with multiple cornerbacks. Also, I think the Giants feel their poor special teams play was due to slow linebackers and they'd rather have quicker, albeit smaller, coverage guys defendng.
IDK about the idea that the giants might not think mcbride Â
think we basically finally got smart! yes, it was nice to win 2 sbs with a pass rush; but it just is not sustainable; you still need decent corners for when the rush doesn't get there and it's not going to get there on every pass attempt (e.g., you're not going to have like 20 sacks for every 25 pass attempts). so think we just have finally gotten smart and gotten decent corners. I like it!
lol
Honestly, I'd lock up Price for a $5m per deal prior to the season. Our secondary would be square for the rest of Eli's tenure.
What does Eli's tenure have to do with the Giants secondary?
If we an expendable and tradeable player....it would be Prince. I just don't see how all these CB's get on the field.
Because Chris Kreider is injured?

You know what I'm saying
Looks bad for James, not to mention the four CBs on the PS, but you never know how things will shake out in camp.
It's called depth, FEK. Ever hear of it?

So whats going on this offseason is just business as usual? The Giants always devote so many resources to bringing in CBs from the FA market?
Or scar-r-r-r-r-r-r-y deep?

They lost three.. They added three.. period..
Lose Webster, Ross, Thomas...
gain DRC, Thurman, Bowman..
ZERO CHANGE in the number.. just an upgrade in the talent...

Yes, signing guys for positions they were thin and/or injury prone in the previous year is pretty much SOP for the Giants. Most other teams as well.
AN ALREADY GREAT SECONDARY JUST GOT BETTA!
This year its Prince, DRC, Thurman, McBride, Bowman, Holsey, and James..
same number of CB's as last season.. so maybe Charles James is on the bubble??
Did not know numbers are the same... looks good then with significant upgrades !
