Eli having surgery on his ankle this afternoon

arthroscopic procedure. On Twitter. Wonder if this is related to that last hit he took in the final game.

In looking back

that hit was really nasty at the time. I'm still stunned that after it the Giants didn't call a time out or something. He was helped up by the ref and could barely move and took the next snap and threw flat footed (which of course the ball was tipped and picked off). That it's been over 3 months and it's still not right and needs surgery tells you about the severity, hopefully this surgery will clean things out.

That said, I would look for the Giants to bring in some veteran QBs looking for work, and sign a few UDFA QBs once the draft is over to at least have bodies to throw the ball during OTAs and keep the other receivers sharp.

What will suck, Eli usually did some work with this receivers on the offseason on his own to get their timing down, particularly learning McAdoo's system. Now that is going to be on the shelf until June. There is only so much he can do in the classroom and film.

My wife got a brand new titanium hip four weeks ago and she could probably start running in another week. She was only out of work for two weeks and has been without a cane for 10 days. The procedures on this stuff gets better all the time.

He's getting a minor amount of work done by comparison.
Oofah, considerably less than optimal

"I don't see why not, Eli."
"That's awesome, 'cause I never could before!"

These are the jokes, folks. I'm here all week.

... a Giant QB suffered a season-ending ankle sprain?

j/k of course, but it's sobering (no pun intended) to consider that Kerry Collins was two years younger at the time than Eli is now.

Anyway, more reps for Ryan Nassib might not be the worst thing in the world. Sort of depends on how radically the offense is changing, and how much turnover happens in the receiving corps.
Simple procedure.

What a horror show that was.
Come to think of it, I should have said the last TWO times.

Same thing happened to Simms in 1990, though I think the team reported the injury as "a foot".

Why do these guys wait so long???

I HATE when these guys try to be cute and then they need the surgery later on anyways. Doctors doctor, players player and the rest of you, pretend to know what you're talking about.

the Giant's hired someone to accompany Eli into the operating room just to point out to the surgeon what he is supposed to be operating on. 'This ankle right here, not a kidney or breast implants.' And maybe someone to accompany the accompanier just to make sure he doesn't fuck up.
Imagine if he came out of surgery....
kinard : 4/10/2014 4:38 pm : link

If they protect him... He will bounce back.

I still believe he hurt his shoulder on sack #2 in Dallas week one last year and wasn't the same since.

New =healthy players only, no 'projects'.

Actually, I believe Eli's ok; probably just a debris clean up.

The guy came back the next week after a separated shoulder, and played with p.f. And didn't get killed behind last years OL.
This probably simplifies the offense

No more QB running plays in the playbook.

Damn annoying to me.
yatqb : 4/10/2014 5:19 pm : link
So often the Giants' doctors seem to be overoptimistic with injuries, only to discover as the season approaches that players need an operation. Can't understand it with the best orthopedists in the city available to them.

Conservative is one thing, but you'd think that a high ankle sprain that is still giving discomfort after months is indicative of a problem, and that it should have been assessed as requiring surgery before now.
On the plus side...

Who goes in for surgery when they don't need to?
BlackLight : 4/10/2014 5:59 pm : link
And why would football players be any different?

Eli wanted to see if he could get better without surgery. It got to a point where he realized he couldn't, so he had surgery. My guess is they had this time-tabled out from the day after the season ended.
the good news is
oipolloi : 4/10/2014 6:27 pm : link
that David Baas, Chris Snee and David Diehl are set for life financially
My cousin had it done and hes an athlete
BillyBoy8384 : 4/10/2014 7:16 pm : link
In just over a month he was jogging and in a month and a half he was running the bases just fine. Its a minor clean up procedure. Many great QB's have had this done numerous times. And we dont have to worry about Eli losing speed bc thats impossible.

All the more reason for signing Shwartz and Walton and the other 2 big guys(Jerry, Brown). Drafting an OL in rd 2 seems like the right move. Lets get Eli another passing target bc that is a must. Very good OL depth will be there when we pick at 43

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I hate when posters try to be cute and act like they have any fucking clue about injuries and surgery. Gee dingus, you think the same Doctors that told Eli he needed surgery also probably told Eli to rest up and see how it heals before jumping into a surgical procedure?

It is insane to me how many fans think players should jump at the chance to go under the knife before seeing how their body heals. It's not being cute, it's being careful and conservative.

Now fuck off, kindly

He wouldnt rule out
Drafting a qb. We already
Drafted a backup last year.
Ive been thinking he may have
Said that thinking eli is up
For a big contract and has to
Prove himself due to bad year.
They haven't extended him yet
Because they want to see how he
Does with good players.Surgery
Makes things more iffy...
Question...if one of the top 2
Qbs are at 12....does reese..take one?
Now Bortles is going to fall to us

If his ankle was so bad,
Simms11 : 4/11/2014 9:25 am : link
then why was he playing basketball with his brother at Duke!

He'll be fine in about a month. These procedures are done all the time with minimal issue. He'll be ready to go by camp. My concern is the OTAs and his abillity to work with his receivers then.
I was watching that shit show of a Redskins game last year
BlueHurricane : 4/11/2014 9:38 am : link
Wondering how in the world the staff was allowing the franchise to play behind the truly offensive offensive line they had on the field. How many of the guys the line that was on the field the play Eli got hurt will be out of the league completely this year? My guess is 3 of the 5.
