“I went through the recovery and rehab after suffering the sprain,” said Manning. “I was still experiencing some discomfort as I began my normal offseason preparation, and after consultation, we felt the right thing was to have Dr. Anderson clean out the ankle. The doc tells me I should be running in about six weeks. I’m looking forward to the start of the offseason program on the 21st. I will be in the weight room and in the meeting rooms so we can all learn the new offense. I got some good work in this week at Duke, and I think it’s smart to get this procedure done now so the ankle isn’t an ongoing issue. I’m eager to get to work with our new offensive coaches and system.
"Why didn't he have the surgery the day after the season ended?"

Sometimes they wait to see if things we'll heal on their own without the invasive procedure. Our organization puts the players long term future first so we are more conservative that way.
It's all right. He'll have the stone wall of Beatty, Snee, and Walton Â

There's going to be too many higher quality, relative to their position, available and the only way the team is going to be tolerable in 2014 with what their talent level offense is very likely to be is if the QB can carry them.
Basically, if Eli plays well in 2014, playoffs. If Eli sucks or physically falls apart (not because of this; he'll be fine off of this) in 2014, assuming there's no bizarre stretch of non-QBs faced like there was in 2013, they'll likely be horrible enough to get close to the top of the draft and be in the running for a better QB pick.
The medical guys were like, "Well, if we operate now (2 months ago) he will be ready to go sooner. What do you guys think?"
And everyone else was like, "No, let's wait. It will be much more dramatic that way!"
I'm POSITIVE they weren't weighing the medical options the whole time.
that hit was really nasty at the time. I'm still stunned that after it the Giants didn't call a time out or something. He was helped up by the ref and could barely move and took the next snap and threw flat footed (which of course the ball was tipped and picked off). That it's been over 3 months and it's still not right and needs surgery tells you about the severity, hopefully this surgery will clean things out.
That said, I would look for the Giants to bring in some veteran QBs looking for work, and sign a few UDFA QBs once the draft is over to at least have bodies to throw the ball during OTAs and keep the other receivers sharp.
What will suck, Eli usually did some work with this receivers on the offseason on his own to get their timing down, particularly learning McAdoo's system. Now that is going to be on the shelf until June. There is only so much he can do in the classroom and film.
My wife got a brand new titanium hip four weeks ago and she could probably start running in another week. She was only out of work for two weeks and has been without a cane for 10 days. The procedures on this stuff gets better all the time.
He's getting a minor amount of work done by comparison.

6 weeks until he can start running.

He won't need to move.

thanks for clearing that up, swifty.
Didn't like it at the time .
Can we send Eli down to LSU to be with their docs?
I walked the next day with no crutches...
They would much rather you get cut early instead of being patient and seeing if it gets better.
