Source tells me Josh Freeman will work out next week for the Giants. Maybe as early as Tuesday. He recently visited the Bears.
freeman has proved that he can be successful, whereas painter has been a p.o.s. on the field since he's been in the pros.but to be honest,i'd rather have carr back.
Freeman played like crap against us in Minny, but let's be honest - he'd been on the team for something like what, 6 days? Then he didn't get to play again?
I think this is a kid who showed some real talent, regressed under Schiano, and who could be developed to be at least a competent backup in this league, if not a league-average starter.
When a guy who they formerly had a positive scouting report on has a huge fall from grace, they bring him in for a look if they can. Usually, nothing comes of it. I guess Kerry Collins is the best example of it going well.
Freeman played really well against the Giants in the 2012 NYG-TB game.
Why not bring back Carr? Freeman is a train wreck.
Why would you rather bring back a used up never-been like Carr? At least Freeman has potential that was squandered by a useless head coach. It's a smart move to see if he is salvageable...
second season. That year he threw 25 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. Now he obviously has not played anywhere near that the past two years but he has much more talent than Painter. Perhaps sitting behind Eli and seeing how hard he works and prepares will help him immensely. Worst case scenario is that it makes the preseason a little more exciting.
He can start in a pinch and is certainly better than Painter. However I don't think he can be a full-time starter, and I thought this even during his 1 good season.
Reese's to-do list is to upgrade their backup QB slot. While you have every confidence that Eli should be fine after the surgery and will be ready to go this year, you need to keep in mind that he's now 33 years old and took a beating last year. The Giants have been incredibly lucky the past few years in his string of health. They have gotten away with guys like Jared Lorenzen and Anthony Wright as a backup, and last year Painter as well.
Depending on how Nassib has developed (and now he's got to learn a new offense as well), the Giants would be better served to get a veteran in here as a backup who is an upgrade over Painter and let them compete. If nothing else, they might need to rest Eli during mini camps with that ankle so you need someone to throw the ball and help the rest of the team work in McAdoo's offense as well.
Freeman is a guy with a lot of talent, a big strong arm, but by all accounts he was lazy as hell. I'm sure the Giants have their own reports and could just as well give Sullivan a call to get his thoughts on him. Maybe the lightbulb will go on after his release last year. Either way, it would be a smart move to look around for something better than Curtis Painter.
I would 100% take Freeman as a backup. He'd be better than anything we've had behind Eli since he's been the starter by a fair margin.
And stop with the Vikings stuff. They signed the guy and Frazier was forced to throw the guy out there knowing only about 1/4 of the playbook. He was basically winging it and had no idea where any of his WR's were going. He did miss a lot of throws but it is what it is.
Reese has been offered a pick for Nassib and they are trying to secure a viable backup if g-d forbid Eli has a set back. One of the Espn analysts had Nassib going in the first round of the draft.
but would love to see him and Nassib duke it out for the #2. Do we keep 3 QBs again this year? Is Eli in the stage of his career where he is no longer iron-man? Problem is a 3rd QB holds down another roster spot we can't afford to give up too!
you guys are focused on giving him a pass for his 'effort' against us last year only one week on his new team - which is fine - ....but you've completely omitted all the reports about just how bad his work ethic was as a member of the Vikings. Just do a google search.
There is a reason a team well out of contention didnt consider starting him again the rest of the season even as Ponder & Cassell continued to show week-after-week that neither was the answer.
Yes......... Yes he can

Am I remembering this correctly?
The last time Carr looked like a pro QB was 10 years ago. Freeman has had a couple of decent to pretty good seasons in the last 5 years.
I'd be worried if Painter were starting on the local high school's JV squad.

He still has some speed.

He must be involved with Quinn in the blackmail of Tom Coughlin...

I'd take him in a second.
I know we have a new OC now, but I'm sure we're adding the new wrinkles while using our offense as the base.
I don't recall anyone on BBI making that claim. Please name them.
