TC worst coaching move

giantfanboy : 4/11/2014 1:13 pm
sorry but playing Eli the last game was the poorest coaching move TC ever made

it was rainy day - with THAT porous line -

I know hindsight is 20/20
now we have a 33 year old QB with a bad ankle

I know TC is all about giving 100% during season etc..
but there was ZERO to gain from playing Eli that day

if Eli didn't play that game and instead got taken out on the sideline holding a clipboard instead of being on the field, tearing an ACL?

So stupid.
Part of what makes TC a great coach and 2 time SB winner
kmed : 4/11/2014 2:12 pm : link
is because of how much he emphasis winning and the importance in being professional and doing everything you can to win. In no way does the OP have anything close to a valid point, what he has is hindsight and knowing the result. If you said before the game that Eli should have sat, then you know nothing about how this coach works.
See? I hate that guy!
Curtis in VA : 4/11/2014 2:12 pm : link
.
Do you
NJGiantFan84 : 4/11/2014 2:23 pm : link
realize Eli will be back before the end of May? So TC should have sat the starting QB in order to make sure he doesn't suffer a relatively minor injury and be out for six weeks over 3 months before the next season starts?

And I'm sure Eli would have been just thrilled to sit out to prevent an injury. Stop it.
I also love how the OP describes Eli
kmed : 4/11/2014 2:25 pm : link
as a 33 year old QB with a bad ankle. So this is a permanant ankle injury?
name a 33 year old anything without a bad something

If you think Eli should have sat this game
kmed : 4/11/2014 2:55 pm : link
then you think we should have benched everyone in 2007 against the Pats and if we do that, we probably don't win the SB. So if you think we should have benched Eli, you are anti-SB's.

Completely agree. I was at that game. Just an awful decision.

There have been a few times TC has decided to kneel the ball before half, under 2:00 and a timeout or two in his pocket that just drive me up a well. But then again, had he gone for some of those and it turned into a pick-6 we would be talking about those decisions as well.
IDK

His worst coaching move was tolerating Plax's shit
Go Terps : 1:14 pm : link : reply

Whatever second place is, it ain't close to that.

-->> I am not in favor of putting up w/ nonsense but Plax could do things like put the team on his back (i.e. vs GB before SB 42).
I think that Eli should have played the last game
giantsfour : 4/11/2014 3:37 pm : link
but they should have taken him out right before the play where he got hurt.
quite a few predicted
mdc1 : 4/11/2014 4:14 pm : link
that Eli eventually would get hurt behind that unit. Imagine ignoring the oline through stoogery with Diehl, Snee, etc and then compromising your 100m QB. Yeah that sounds great. Logic fail...

Or was it not taking care of his contract early so he would not develop an attitude and taking care of the son-in-law first?

Seems kind of like Nicks eh? Cruz.
I cant really think
AnishPatel : 4/11/2014 4:42 pm : link
of a lot of moves I disagreed with. Maybe coordinator hirings. For in game decisions, I wish someone would have said something to Hufangrl against fhr Titans where we had a 21 point lead or something and we kept calling passing plays. That's the game where Kiwi sacked Young but let him go. TC went batshit on Kiwi on the sideline.

Same type of issue but this was during the Windy Giants redskins game at Giant Stadium. We kept throwing in the wind and Eli had 34 or 39 incomplete passes. I was at that game and it was god awful seeing us throw it over and over again.

I hope this is a joke. This is even sillier than the OP. TC doesn't negotiate contracts. Furthermore, Snee was one of the top players in the league when he signed his contract. This idea of nepotism when it comes to Snee is laughable. He earned everything he has gotten.

MetsAreBack : 4/11/2014 5:56 pm : link
1. Eli will be healthy in plenty of time for training camp and the regular season. He was never agile to begin with.

2. Eli wasnt sitting in week 17 given his consecutive game streak, something he's proud of and for good reason. Absent that streak, he probably would have sat, maybe for performance reasons if for nothing else - but reality is that streak exists. Deal with it.

His biggest weekness

waiting a month before removing Headbutt Whitfield from the starting O-line in 2006. He finally put Seubert in with the starters and the o-line that won the '07 title and blocked for two 1,000 rushers in '08 was formed.

Eli could get hurt with no one touching him like Simms and Testaverde.
Taking his foot off the gas week 17 2008
djm : 4/11/2014 9:20 pm : link
Overlooked. Went into minny week 17 resting our starters, including Eli. Two weeks later one n done. Did the exact opposite one year earlier and it galvanized the team.

If it was 1989 I'd say go and rest starters. It was a different league back then. In this era the teams are so close, more parity , every edge you can get makes a difference.

It never gets mentioned but I wonder if that move hurt the team in 08. There's a ton of evidence to suggest it did.
I'd be willing to bet TC knows exactly

TC worst coaching move
mrvax : 4/11/2014 9:47 pm : link
I sort of agree. The best thing he could have done was got Nassib playing time for the last 3-4 games.

Have Eli start, yank him at the half and get the kid a little precious experience.

Fucking dumb decision.

The year before, TC makes Locklear sit (he was playing very well) when "Done" Diehl comes back from injury. That damn near got Eli killed.
the worst part of the Hester return
jsboston : 4/11/2014 10:24 pm : link
is that the Giants players should have been prepared for the return. that was poor preparation and poor coaching.

i would also throw in the game where we threw it 50 times against the Redskins in the wind, although that's on the OC. that game really was painful.
I'll go with
bignygfan : 4/12/2014 12:20 am : link
attempting the FG against the Bears.

My second one is also from that season, having Eli try to move the ball against the Titans once the game got tied. Should have been conservative and gotten to OT.
One more
bignygfan : 4/12/2014 12:25 am : link
Kicking the FG late to go up 6 on the Chargers in '09.

Would rather have gone for it and left them with a long field even if the lead was only 3.
Yeah

His former DC
bc4life : 4/12/2014 7:47 am : link

Benching Nicks before the pivotal Dallas game this year
Reese's Pieces : 4/12/2014 10:37 am : link
that might have turned the season around. Done in retaliation for Nicks skipping Wednesday practice to see a specialist on the advice of his agent. Nicks had practiced on Thursday and Friday and was fully ready to play.

Nicks deserved punishment for what he had done, but not at the expense of the team and its fans. This isn't college football where teaching all the players to become responsible adults is more important (on some teams) than winning an important game. In the NFL it's just about winning.

Glad Nicks is gone so I can get over this obsession with Nicks being made a major scapegoat for a horrible offense, with the quarterback the player by far most responsible.
