BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/12/2014 5:31 pm
We will use this thread as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm time frame. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) Saos1n and Yatqb will have priority to fill the vacancy. Otherwise, the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers that didn't get into the draft but were active in this thread.

I have saved the GBN Big Board as of 4/2 in a Google Document. Once again, we will have a Google Spreadsheet. The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-5) by team (and GM) and a list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updates as often as possible.

I like my results
MadPlaid : 4/29/2014 3:37 pm : link
I would have preferred picking a TE earlier, but fate wasn't on my side. Still, I think I picked up some very good players lower than they were predicted to be selected. They are going to make the Packers better, faster and deeper.
(That's what she said.)

1st. Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State
2nd. Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss
3rd.a. Terrence Brooks, FS, Florida State
3rd.b. Daniel McCullers, NT, Tennessee
4th. Camerson Fleming, OT/OG, Stanford
5th.a. Tyler Larsen, C, Utah State
5th.b. Anthony Steen, OG, Alabama
6th. Jake Murphy, TE, Utah

I think I got a little carried away with picking players for GB's o-line. The Pack has been having a lot of trouble over the last couple years retaining o-linemen and keeping them healthy. Adding to the depth seemed a priority to me.

I think my favorite picks are Terrence Brooks and Cameron Fleming. I got them both later than predicted by the internet prognosticators. They represent really good value IMHO.

Until next year.

I like Landry as well... And if he was closer to, let's just say, "slightly below average" measurables, I doubt he makes it out of RD1...

I agree... If he would have ran in the 4.45 range and jumped 37 inches he would have been a first rounder for sure.. I am hoping he slips like Keenan Allen who was hurt and couldn't work out to his best last year. 3rd would be a great pick for Landry
I like the Patchan pick this late

Just wanted to bring it to your attention that at over 300 pounds I do not think Pagan is playing much OLB. He is a 3-4 DE
Apparently he has an "o" in his name too...

Hard to argue with Shembo that late

None of us know if the allegations are true, so hard to value him, but based on talent he's a very good pickup in 6.
Unsurprising...

New England (Torrag) hasn't been active since the weekend...
Matt G : 4/30/2014 8:49 am : link
Nor responded to email... So, this is likely to be another autopick @11am...
Torrag and English Alaister likely the last hurdles...

With all of the DL New England has drafted
Mike in NY : 4/30/2014 9:38 am : link
I guess Cockrell would be the autopick? I recall Torrag saying that he was disappointed that he did not get Terrance West over Will Clarke because he wanted a RB and while Marion Grice is the highest rated RB according to Colin's spreadsheet, his stock seems to have been slipping after that list came out and Lorenzo Taliaferro (the 2nd ranked RB) seems to be rising a tad
Yes, Cockrell will be the pick for NE

Matt G
MadPlaid : 4/30/2014 9:51 am : link
why wait on the autopick? Torrag's last pick was an autopick and he hasn't been active in a while. Not to mention not replying to your e-mails. Seems to me it would be reasonable to make his pick now and not wait the full alotted time. JMHO
I have a meeting from 10-11
jlukes : 4/30/2014 9:55 am : link
so if the autopick is made now I can get my pick in.

Matt G : 4/30/2014 10:02 am : link
I hear ya... And most likely you are right in that New England (Torrag) won't show up until 11am anyway... But the "rule of thumb" has always been two consecutive missed picks without correspondence... Furthermore, this was an "unscheduled bonus round" of sorts, so it's hard to know for sure whether he was aware and/or planned to participate in a RD6...

Seattle (English Alaister), on the other hand, I'm only going to wait about 10-15 mins... After four consecutive missed picks, I think he is going to need a co-GM if he plans to partcipate next year...
Britt was BPA by a long shot here for the Broncos
jlukes : 4/30/2014 11:22 am : link
Strong, smart lineman that could be a great swing guy his rookie year and potentially take over at a guard position or RT in his 2nd or 3 year.

Played LT in college but projects to RT or guard in the NFL.

Nothing bad to say about this guy.

We didn't have players rated closely at the same position like last year at Center. This year only ILB Borland and ILB Khari Fortt that I can think of and we all know Borland isn't half the player Fortt is.
I really like Devon Kennard...
Amtoft : 4/30/2014 12:37 pm : link
total team player. They needed him at DE he played DE... They needed him at OLB he played OLB... They needed him at ILB he played the Mike. I actually think his best position is at ILB. He is under developed due to moving so many times, but he was solid where ever he went. Put him at ILB or OLB or DE and let him develop into a very good player.

Talented... quick... perfect build... works out hard... and unfortunately soft. He was Cal's leading tackler before getting hurt.
Hal signs!

To finish off the draft the Steelers add some well-needed CB competition with a corner who played well against one of the top-ranked receivers in this year's draft, Donte Moncrief.

Jay Bromley was selected by the Raiders... I would also throw in RB Marion Grice ASU, WR Cody Hoffman BYU, Kam Jackson from Cal, RB Tim Cornett UNLV, WR L'Damien Washington Missouri, and TE Eric Waters Missouri.
Here are my priority FAs for the Fish:
Optimus-NY : 4/30/2014 2:18 pm : link
1. Ryan Grant, WR, Tulane
2. Kirby Van Der Kamp, P, Iowa State
And
Amtoft : 4/30/2014 2:19 pm : link
also since you mentioned a fast Chandler Jones... Noel Grigsby who was 2 games into last year, but was a beast before. The main reason I think Fales struggled a little was not only the change in HC, OC, and playing style, but also losing his top target. Don't get me wrong. Fales was still a stud... 64% completion, 4189 yards, 33 TDs, 13 INTs... Just the year before was amazing 72.5%, 4193, 33 TDs, 9 INTs
My last 3 picks for the Raiders...
Amtoft : 4/30/2014 2:47 pm : link
WR TJ Jones Notre Dame... Not sure why he lasted that long. I have his as a 4th rounder and much better than the WRs being picked before him. 6', 4.48 combine 40, great route runner, great hands, smart, good kid, team captain, durable, etc. Not sure why he fell, but is a steal in the 7th

DT Jay Bromley Syracuse... Ran a 5.03 and benched 26 times at 306lbs. Quick off the snap for a guy over 300lbs. Was hitting gaps very nicely and splitting double teams. Didn't just pad stats against weak teams getting 2 sacks against Clemson, 1 against Florida State, and 1 in his bowl game. Had 10 sacks on the year. Not as strong against the run, but in the 7th a great value get here.

RB Henry Josey Missouri... Not the biggest guy, but one of the most explosive. He was a lightning as a SO in 9 games 2011 before suffering a nasty horrible injury in his 10th game. He missed all of 2012, but came back in 2013 with a bang. 174 carries 1166 yards and 16 TDs averaging 6.7 yards a carry which is lower than his 8.1 he averaged in his 145 carried 1168 yard 9 game Sophomore year. He is extremely fast and I don't think back to where he was or where he could be. He ran a 4.43 at the combine which is amazing. Also in 184 touches he has in 2013 zero fumbles! Love this kid and the way him came back from what many thought could be career ending.

Of course I was joking about Fortt... He was called out so many times for being soft. Borland is the complete opposite and of course the much better player. I still think Fortt has a ton of talent though... To bad I wouldn't draft him unless I convinced he was passionate about what it takes to play football.

Frederick did play very well... Just like to point out that Schwenke was very good also when he wasn't hurt. Frederick was picked in the 1st while Schwenke was picked in the 4th... Value wise Schwenke was better!
