BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/12/2014 5:31 pm
We will use this thread as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm time frame. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) Saos1n and Yatqb will have priority to fill the vacancy. Otherwise, the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers that didn't get into the draft but were active in this thread.

I have saved the GBN Big Board as of 4/2 in a Google Document. Once again, we will have a Google Spreadsheet. The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-5) by team (and GM) and a list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updates as often as possible.

I do not have to worry about Will A/P stealing all of my picks this year!
Should be a good year,
Andy in Halifax : 4/13/2014 8:59 am : link
I'm being heckled already!
I can predict
bob in tx : 4/13/2014 9:50 am : link
Andy's first 3 picks.
Yes, I kinda think you'd be pretty darned close
Andy in Halifax : 4/13/2014 9:57 am : link
I've been going back and forth on a couple of guys in 1, would also consider a 3rd guy if he falls (but I'm betting he's gone).

I know you know I really like a certain player that looks to be available in 2, so you'd have a good shot at my first 2.

The guy I want in 3 won't drop - so that one will be more of a mystery.

You know its too bad Reese didn't have my record of drafting OL - a line with Solder-Iupati-Unger-Frederick wouldn't be so bad...
to be fair to Reese

Ouch.
btw - I can't imagine anyone has picked more guys
Andy in Halifax : 4/13/2014 10:15 am : link
that suddenly retired from football. Christian Ballard and Quinn Pitcock - both were semi promising players after early seasons - both just quit football.
Jaguars select Mack
Kevin in CT : 4/13/2014 11:29 am : link
No brainer really. To the Jaguars, Mack is the best defensive player in the draft and top player on their board. He will make an instant impact for Gus Bradley's defense.
the bbi mock will likely
Sir-Yes-Sir : 4/13/2014 11:40 am : link
feature far fewer early qb picks than the real draft. i'd be surprised to see more than 1 go before 12 in this mock

Matt G : 4/13/2014 12:49 pm : link
It usually does... People are reluctant to pull trigger on Bs with warts... Though last year, the NFL GMs did the same... That being said, I still expect to see 2 in the top 12...

I keep saying that the Browns need to follow my draft plan!

re:3 certainties for the BBI Mock Draft
Modus Operandi : 4/12/2014 8:11 pm : link : reply
1) Andy in Halifax will pick someone a round early and he will be out of the league in 3 years;

2) Kevin in CT, Lionheart and Amtoft will all pick a better players than their respective organizations end up with;

3) CiP will push everyone's shit in for the umpteenth straight year.
You all got started early!
Lionhart28 : 4/13/2014 1:13 pm : link
I'm behind on my research this year but I will make my (first) 1st rounder today...
I am already confused
GeofromNJ : 4/13/2014 1:39 pm : link
Do certain BBI posters represent certain NFL teams?
Geo
Lionhart28 : 4/13/2014 1:47 pm : link
Yes, typically most draftees are returning and represent the same team each year. Every year there are a handful of open teams that returning draftees get first dibs at switching to. Then the remaining open spots are filled at a first come, first served basis. You can see who represents which team in the google spreadsheet in the OP or in the selection thread:

Robinson is the best player available
Lionhart28 : 4/13/2014 2:32 pm : link
gives the Browns leverage with Joe Thomas and has the ability to play 3 or 4 positions on the line. Along with Schwartz, Thomas and Mack he gives the Browns one of the best lines in football.

Has Eric or the mods ever given us a reason
GMen-in-SC : 4/13/2014 4:36 pm : link
As to why, despite the popularity of this thread, it's never stickied? The question has surfaced several times over the years and I don't ever remember an answer as to why it isnt considered sticky-worthy.
Can you imagine trying to game plan for Watt and Clowney?
GMen-in-SC : 4/13/2014 4:38 pm : link
Sweet Baby Jesus!
Nope, they have never explained why the Mock Draft
MadPlaid : 4/13/2014 4:40 pm : link
isn't sticky worthy. Too bad because I think it is one of the more popular events on BBI at this time of year. We are so very entertaining.
amtoft will have pick in...
Matt G : 4/13/2014 6:52 pm : link
this evening
So the Browns draft Robinson with the 4th overall pickinthedraft
BlueLou : 4/13/2014 7:49 pm : link
to sit behind Thomas and Schwartz, 2 of the best young OTs in the game?

And others BBIers bitch about picking Donald at 12 becuase he might sit behind Jenkins as a rookie?
Robinson wouldn't sit in CLE
Matt G : 4/13/2014 8:13 pm : link
.
He's not gonna start at OLT,
BlueLou : 4/13/2014 8:19 pm : link
either.
No, he won't start over one of the best left tackles in the NFL...
Matt G : 4/13/2014 8:36 pm : link
But he starts over Schwartz at RT and he certainly isn't "sitting"...
Quote:
Coach Mike Pettine says the Browns could move RT Mitchell Schwartz to guard. Cleveland hasn't seemed comfortable with the idea of Schwartz sticking at right tackle since the season ended. He gave up 11 sacks and 35 hurries in pass protection in 2013. The Browns don't currently have a capable replacement for Schwartz at right tackle but could find one in May's draft.
Robinson is the best player available
Lionhart28 : 4/13/2014 8:56 pm : link
Plus, he can also step right in at guard if they prefer Schwartz at LT. I'm not worried. You take the best players and let the chips fall where they may.
Cleveland
Mike in NY : 4/13/2014 9:18 pm : link
I could see them taking Robinson if he is there at #4 but that also assumes Jacksonville takes a QB at #3. Not sure they pass on someone like Bortles for Mack
if you evaluate Robinson as a
Sir-Yes-Sir : 4/13/2014 9:45 pm : link
can't miss 12 year all pro stud, you don't pass on drafting him because you have Mitchell Schwartz on your team
This is ridiculous. ..
Amtoft : 4/14/2014 12:18 am : link
No way 3 and possibly 4 teams in desperate need for QBs would pass on the option for the top QB on their board. I hate when people are more concerned with taking the player most likely to make them look good in 3 years compared to taking the player that would be the best fit for the team to draft. That is what puts mock in mock drafts. Stupid
to explain...
Amtoft : 4/14/2014 12:21 am : link
U think Mack will look like a great pick so you take him rather than a QB that will take time to develop. Same with Greg Robinson who is great but over a QB for a team that has nothing! Oh look 3 years later I took Mack and he is a star look at me. In the mean time u screwed ur franchise by not getting a QB.
Manziel
irish27266 : 4/14/2014 12:56 am : link
I think Manziel is a really interesting player in this draft. He has all the hype in the world but no qb like him will ever (in my opinion) win a Super Bowl. I vastly prefer a pocket passer qb. I agree he will go early but I think the team that takes it is making a mistake. A lot of publicity and questionable talent. I think if the draft plays out this way it's not a bad pick but geez there's a lot of good players out there that you're passing up on.
but you've thrown away your pick
Hades07 : 4/14/2014 1:01 am : link
if you draft a QB that will need to be replaced if you draft one because you need a QB. You'll be in the same spot w/i 4 years and nothing to show for it.
Johnny Manziel...
Amtoft : 4/14/2014 2:07 am : link
Where to start with this pick. Is he the best QB in this class? Maybe tho just watching film I also love Teddy Bridge. Bortles has the ideal size and arm making him an intriguing option for a traditional offense. Much like the one the Raiders will be running this year with Matt Schaub. However when I watch Manziel... When I see Manziel... I hear Manziel... I see it... I hear it... I'm buying it. Not only do I think he will succeed, I think he will sell. To me I can't see Jacksonville or Cleveland passing on him and if they do the Raiders should jump at him. Jerseys, tickets, bobble heads, foam Johnny football fingers, etc. He is exciting and following the new trend that is taking over the NFL he will succeed... IMO of course and if he doesn't at least I got some dolla dolla bills yo!

So you shouldn't draft Andrew Luck, RG3, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Ben Roth, Jay Cutler, Phillip Rivers, etc etc etc because ur afraid he won't pan out and then u are left with nothing? And if Mack is Aaron Curry then u will be left with nothing. If u have no QB then you would be insane not to take one that can help you more than most LBs could. You can bust out at any position. I would rather start a first round QB and 6th round LB than a 1st round LB and a 6th round QB.
yes, you can bust out at any position
Hades07 : 4/14/2014 7:44 am : link
That is why you draft for players and not position. If you need a TE and you draft one in the first but not a player you believe in, you have thrown away your pick. But screwing up a QB pick is more disastrous than a TE.
