We will use this thread as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the entire draft and will need to be bumped occasionally to push them back to page 1 of the forum.
Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm time frame. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the
GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (ie: Indianapolis Colts won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) Saos1n and Yatqb will have priority to fill the vacancy. Otherwise, the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers that didn't get into the draft but were active in this thread.
I have saved the GBN Big Board as of 4/2 in a
Google Document. Once again, we will have a
Google Spreadsheet. The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-5) by team (and GM) and a list of both available and taken prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updates as often as possible.
No you didn't. Will A/P selected him already. Speaking of selections that were made, Russell Bodine has to be removed from the available list

Day Three Target:
Kevin Norwood – Alabama (77)
This kid could be one of the top draft weekend steals because of where you can get him. I wouldn’t classify Norwood as an elite receiver by any means, but a lot of people don’t give him credit for what he is. He is a big, physical receiver that runs great routes and will come down with a lot of balls in traffic. The Alabama offense is so stacked with young receivers and running backs to a point where Norwood was almost being forgotten about. I think his game translates very well to the next level, especially for a team that needs someone for the outside.
Sy is the worst at grading imo... Not sure why so many like his opinions so much. His grades are so far off of everyone elses that should tell you something, but people love revere his rankings none the less.
It made me smile... I was like now I know Norwood was a reach! I like UKGiantsfan rankings better. We agree on a lot more prospects. I loved it when he came out and blasted Sankey! I was like yes!
If the #1 pick is a defensive player, #43 seems likely to be a new target for Eli. Andy passed on Adams, Matthews and Niklas to take Kouandjio. Hard to argue with that pick, but the ensuing run on receivers left few big, fast targets on the board at 74. It might have worked out better to strengthen the receiving corps at #43 and wait on OL until #74 (James/Dozier/Mewhort) or even #113 (Schofield/Fleming)
Here are a couple of alternate scenarios, based on the choices Andy had for each pick:
1) Assumes Giants do not exercise their 2015 option on Amukamara:
#12 CB: Gilbert (or Dennard, I guess)
#43 WR: Matthews, Adams, Latimer, Moncrief, Landry
#74 DT: Jones, Quarles, Ferguson, Sutton
#113 OL: Schofield, Fleming, Hurst, Johnson
#152 RB: White, Gaffney, McKinnon
#174 OLB: Kirksey (Yay Andy!)
#187 DE/Rush LB: Breslin, Shembo
2) Assumes Giants exercise their 2015 option on Amukamara:
#12 DT: Donald
#43 WR: Matthews, Adams, Latimer, Moncrief, Landry
#74 OL: James, Mewhort, Dozier, Swanson, C.Richardson
#113 DE/Rush LB: Jeffcoat, Tripp, Hubbard, Clarke
#152 RB: White, Gaffney, McKinnon
#174 OLB: Kirksey
#187 Up for grabs.
Besides, there's NO WAY you cover all the weaknesses on this roster through the draft. Not possible. Oline and pass rush are the top two areas of need. We're also short on DT's long term. Anyone who uses "need" to nitpick the Donald selection is out of their mind. We absolutely have a need for a passrusher. Our only effective passrusher from last season is gone.

Haters are going to hate. With hindsight I may have taken a WR in Round 3 like Richardson or Abbbrederis and taken a TE in Round 4 then drafted a RB rather than Watt in Round 5
I have boards for Miami (Optimus-NY) and all four picks for the New York Jets (Jon in NYC)... Kansas City (Giantology) wasn't up for a RD6, which is fine... Hopefully he checks in to let us know if we should auto-pick at #193 and #200...
Miami is on the clock
The question with Donald is whether there's a combination of picks ahead of him that really makes him the BPA. In other words, while he's defensible as a BPA selection, I wonder to what extent advocates of taking him at #12 are being swayed by:
a) Need; and
b) The scarcity of interior pass-rushers in this class.
One potential problem with Donald at #12 is that you're then in a bit of a box in round 2. If you don't take a WR or TE there, you may be left with nothing but complementary players and JAGs for a receiving corps where Eli could sure use some star-quality help. So two closely-related needs - better receivers and better protection - come into direct conflict. On the other hand, if you pass on Donald, any kind of upgrade to the pass rush will be hard to come by.
I guess this brings us back to the reason so many Giant fans favor trading down in one the first two rounds. As painful as it may be to pass up red-chip players at positions of need like Donald, Martin, Ebron and Evans, the Giants might be better served by spreading their scarce resources more evenly.
This kid is Brandon Jacobs-like huge with a similar running style.
Good value this late, despite the concussion concerns.
However, the trades they made in this movie were utterly unrealistic. Total crap. If Reece made any one of these trades, we would have likely stone him to death. With really big rocks.
Either way you shake it, you're either going to have to trade down or get very lucky to hit all the areas you want.
Now that the draft is just about over I will share my expectations when the draft started.
1. Martin, OT/OG
2. Matthews , WR or Adams, WR
3. One of Niklas, Richberg or Buchannon
That was plan A. Kinda thought the love fest with Donald would push him into top 10. I switched to plan B because I really think Donald is a possible elite defender & couldn't pass that up. As you correctly pointed out, plan B meant only one of OL TE and WR get addressed in round 2 and a good chance of a major talent drop off by the time round 3 rolls around.
I still like the way it went for me. I'd be tickled pink if we actually drafted AD and CK in the first two rounds.
I like Landry better than most that went before him. I think he goes top 3 rounds as about the 11th best WR. Watkins, Evans, Lee, Cook, Beckham, Adams, Robinson, Matthews, Benjiman, Latimer, and then Landry.... Yes above Moncrief and Bryant.
I would rather have a great route running with great hands that can block over a 6'4 200 WR that can't run routes or catch or block. Being able to get deep separation and having top end speed is overrated.
I got a human battering ram in this dude. He'll be integral in helping the Dolphins impose their will in the running game at the PoA. Guys like this picked in the 6th round today used to be 3rd or 4th rounders 20 years ago. It's funny how things change. Power still wins football games, and it always will. I loved this pick. This dude helped Tre Mason out TREMENDOUSLY. Prosch is what Mo Carthon was back in the day for the Parcells Giants: a Guard in Fullback's clothing.
Nice shot at my guy Bryant, BTW... Touche ;o)
C.J. MOSLEY, MLB, Alabama
Round #2:
Antonio "Tiny" Richardson, OT, Tennessee
Round #3:
C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa
Round #4:
Wesley Johnson, OT/OG, Vanderbilt
Round #5:
James White, RB, Wisconsin
Round #6:
Jay Prosch, FB, Auburn
Da Show's ovuh mongos...
Let’s recap:
Round 1
17) Calvin Pryor/FS/Louisville
Matt Elam was a bit of a disappointment last year and the other S position is in a state of flux. I had Pryor roughly even with Clinton-Dix who went off the board at #10. Brandin Cooks was also under consideration for this pick, but with the depth at WR and the scarcity of top S talent I went with Pryor
Round 2
48) Davante Adams/WR/Fresno State
Having passed on a WR with my first pick, I needed to address this area now. It was between Adams and Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews, but since Adams I had ever so slightly higher on my board, he was the pick. Although the Ravens added Steve Smith in Free Agency, they needed to get younger at the WR position and Adams will add some size as well. Tremendously productive in only two seasons at Fresno State
Round 3
79) JaWuan James/OT/Tennessee
Because of “Tiny” Richardson I tried to watch what I could of Tennessee. Whenever I watched them play I was disappointed with Richardson, but came away impressed with James. I think he can contribute sooner rather than later and that is important considering the Ravens lost Michael Oher to Free Agency
99) Trevor Reilly/OLB/Utah
I was not looking to add a pass rusher this high, but Reilly was, by a decent margin, the best player remaining on my board. You can never have too many pass rushers and with Suggs and Dumervil not getting any younger it is always good to have some younger talent at that position
Round 4
134) Terrance West/RB/Towson
Ray Rice’s production declined last season and now he has legal troubles on top of that. Decided to stay local and nab West, who had a lot of production at the FCS level and adds prototypical size and athleticism
139) Brent Urban/DE/Virginia
I think he will be a better pro than he was college player once he is not changing schemes/roles every season. Has battled some injuries, but I think he represents a solid value at the five-technique position, which is a need for the Ravens
Round 5
175) Nevin Lawson/CB/Utah State
Lawson was on my short list for Pick #139 and as the BPA on my board I had to take him when he was there at #175. Long arms. Underrated CB who flashed some nice potential in bowl practices. Special teams and sub packages will likely be his initial role
Round 6
194) Gabe Ikard/OC/Oklahoma
More bodies for an OL that struggled last season, including at C where the Ravens could not seem to find a replacement for Matt Birk. Probably not going to play much as a Rookie because he needs to get stronger, but has the potential to be a steal down the road
Other players on my Round 6 “short list”
Richard Rodgers/TE/California
He is another I think will be a better pro than college player. Went from Jeff Tedford’s more run-based Offense to Sonny Dyke’s spread system. Despite the change, showed the willingness to change his game to fit the new scheme. An anonymous Ravens scout was heard saying “this one’s for you, Amtoft”
John Brown/WR/Pittsburg State
Michael Campanaro/WR/Wake Forest
A pair of productive but undersized WR’s who profile as back-up’s and Special Teamers in the NFL. Despite playing at a low level of competition, Brown impressed me in his drills at the Combine showing good hands and nice hips in the gauntlet drill. Campanaro had a lot of production at the FBS level and this late in the draft that matters
Zack Kerr/DT/Delaware
Big NT who would be making the jump from FCS. Has size and surprising athleticism for a big man. Mt. Cody has been a disappointment and you cannot teach size
Devon Kennard/OLB/USC
What can I say except you can never have too many pass rushers
Okay, let me have it! Once the Mock Draft is over I will list my BPA remaining regardless of if I would have taken them for the Ravens or not
C.J. Mosley, MLB, Alabama
•I have a defensive leader at the fulcrum of the defense. A defensive QB, if you will who can give this floundering Defense some personality and leadership.
Round #2:
Antonio "Tiny" Richardson, OT, Tennessee
•How can you NOT like a guy named Tiny who's built like a mountain? This man will bring some nastiness sans the dirty play, lunacy, & racism that Incognito did. Oh yeah: J. Martin is softer than soft serve ice cream too.
Round #3:
C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa
•A powerful 2-way TE that can help the Miami offense in the running game and intermediate passing game. He'll help them at the LoS, giving them more flexibility to do damage downfield via play action.
Round #4:
Wesley Johnson, OT/OG, Vanderbilt
•I think guys like this--"glue guys"--are integral to winning. He's flexible, is a leader, and will do whatever it takes to succeed---cleanly of course, lol.
Round #5:
James White, RB, Wisconsin
•I think this young fella is underrated. He can do a lot of things well, but the knock on him is his size. I think that's overrated with this kid. He can play: pass protection being a key to his game, which is vital in today's NFL. He can also catch it very nicely out of the backfield. The next guy I took will amplify White's game even more.
Round #6:
Jay Prosch, FB, Auburn
•Just as Prosch amplified Tre Mason's game at Auburn, he'll do the same for James White and the other Miami RBs. He's a pure power player who will help at the PoA.
If you combine Prosch with the TE I drafted, and the OL, this draft stands to help Miami get back on track after the mess they've been in lately.
Long, Ikard and Rodgers were the 3 guys I was looking at with my pick. Liked Long's upside a little more than Ikard's and felt Rodgers was a little too similar to Pettigrew to take at that point.
Nice shot at my guy Bryant, BTW... Touche ;o)
LOL... I didn't mean it as a knock on you... I just don't like Bryant or Moncrief as much as the others do. His vertical and 40 have been hurt by the fact he is having hamstring issues. He pulled up in the 40 at the combine and then ran at his pro day with a ginger hammy. He improved his 40 time and his vertical went from 28.5 to 30.5... now I am not saying he is going to jump 38-42 fully healthy, but I would bet he is more like a 33-35 vert guy when healthy. He reminds me of a slightly shorter Hakeem Nicks really. He runs such good routes that he is great at getting open on quick running routes. He is faster than given credit for and one on one with a DB he will catch it more times than not. Great at fighting for the ball. Actually now that I really think about it he is one of my favorite WRs in this draft. Just so good at finding openings and fighting and catching everything. I would love to add Landry.
Rodgers is tough... Tedford called him one of the top TEs in the country when he had him and JT doesn't do that very often. He had been really heavy and slow his SO year and dropped a lot of weight for this season. He is slower than you want and not quick or sudden. He has ok to good hands. He is pretty strong and has good lean. I think he can be a good blocker, but last year playing in a spread didn't have a traditional type of blocking. He made some good plays last year and wasn't used as much as he should. They ran a lot of short WR screens and threw more outside neglecticing the middle with a true FR QB. 6th or 7th seems like a good spot for a potentially pretty good TE that hasn't shown his best yet.
I like your draft... I have Shazier and Mosley as two LBs after Mack that are better than any other LB in the draft by far. It goes Mack.. slight drop.. Shazier and Mosley pretty decent drop to every other LB. I also like that Mosley can play any LB spot making him super versatile. I am also a fan of the other Tennessee OT Antonio Richardson and think that is a good fit for the RT or maybe even OG to start in Miami. I am not a big Fiedorowicz fan, but don't think he was a reach. I don't know much about Wesley or the FB you took. I think White is good value for the 5th and like his running style.
