NFT: NCAA Hockey Championship Game

pganut : 4/12/2014 8:47 pm
Anyone watching?

Crazy first period where Union exploded to a 4-2 lead after 1, after trailing 2-1, then scoring 3 goals in 1:54 late to take the lead. Islanders draftee Taylor Cammarata scored 2 minutes into the 2nd to make it 4-3, and Minny is on the PP now.

Should be a fun finish...buckle your seatbelts.

I wouldn't mind at all seeing the Dutchmen taking this.

I had hoped UND was going to beat MN, but Union seems to have a lit of momentum in the tourney.

we had ESPN. He's a UND alum. When he got here UND had already lost and I don't think he's even watching the game now. I'll let him know it's on

Gostispbehere has had an insane game

Heads up play leads to a backbreaker that will close this out. Hate that the kid will be a Flyer.

And now theE ENG to go to 7-4. Congrats, Union.
1 goal, 2 assists...

national champions in a row!
RPI in 85.

Then Cornell in 70. Man, that's a long time.
The last NY school to win

was RPI (Troy NY) in 1985 (over Providence).

Interesting thing about RPI and Union...they are bitter rivals in Hockey. There were suspensions earlier this year when these teams met.

That was then. Congrats, UNION!!!

was at a Cornell-Union game at Lynah Rink in 1997 or 98 that turned into a full line brawl, including the goaltenders (Trevor Koenig and Ian Burt, I believe). At the time it was an ECAC record for PIM.
I was good friends with Coach Addessa's

kids back in the mid 80's before he got bounced out of RPI. That was a huge deal in 1985 for that team to win the national championship.

Meanwhile, the tag I that is the Times Union here in albany covers Unions run as an afterthought.

Probably the first major championship to come out of Schenectady since Pat Rileys Lakers back in the 80's.
Union College is practically in my back yard.

I am so proud of this team and what they've accomplished. This is a liberal arts school of about 2,200 students and there are NO athletic scholarships. I think that's pretty significant in this day and age. Congratulations Dutchmen on a terrific season and a great job tonight to finish it off!!
Go Union, great win, good for a city that

Albany Law and Albany Med affiliated with Union.

to watch them play at Achilles Center when Ned Harkness was coaching them and they were Division III. This is a HUGE accomplishment. Only Division I sport they play there, it's a school of 2,200 students and no hockey players on scholarships. And they beat a powerhouse like Minnesota. Unbelievable!
I went to RPI
Metnut : 4/13/2014 9:27 am : link
for undergrad so it's a little bittersweet seeing Union win the big one while RPI continues to flounder under Appert. Nonetheless, it's cool seeing the ECAC win back-to-back titles and nice to see the Capital Region get a national title.
Listening to Melrose
trueblueinpw : 4/13/2014 2:29 pm : link
You'd like it was the Gophs playing against Shane Gotlishphere all by himself. Kid was great, don't get me wrong, but there was a whole team out there for Union who we didn't hear anything aboot.

Anyhow, Union was tops throughout this tourney. Well done Dutchmen. A+ to their fans who represented well at every game.
As bad as Melrose is

It seems like old facelift Buccigross had his lips grafted to Gostisbehere's junk. And you're right, Union played great as a team thru the tourney. But that individual stat line, especially the +7 aspect, was superior.
