Who tried to have Bran killed in season 1 - that mystery was never properly revisited. Meaning whose dagger was that?

We might find out soon!
I just rewatched it also never read any of the books
eli4life : 4/14/2014 8:45 pm : link
I think it was either Cersei or Oleena Tyrel. Both can be pretty evil but I'm leaning towards Oleena because of that crap she was saying about killing a man at a wedding
Cersei

Scotty- Without giving it away, the HBO version is slightly different in that I believe it has been strongly implied that it was Jamie or Cersei who hired the assassin to kill Bran with Tyrion's dagger. However, in the books it was different (but not plot changing different) and the actual truth revealed in the timeline just before the events of last night's episode. I'm not sure if I should say who because I would rather err on the side of caution with this one.
I agree with the first part of that

Re: the show. I wasn't even thinking of that question as an "open item" despite the fact that the show never revealed exactly which person put the hit out.
holy shit am I late to this thread
beatrixkiddo : 4/15/2014 3:30 pm : link
but I have the sneaking suspicion that it was Cercei who poisoned her own son.

She seemed way to discontent giving up her power, she's a psychopath inbred loving weirdo, and I recall her once trying to take her own life with a vile of poison. Wouldn't surprise me as the Lannisters are one F-ed up family. The only one really worthy of living is the imp, and perhaps Jamie for as much as I hate him he is a good character.

I hate Stannis and that Fire worshiping cult, I hope something bad comes to them all.

I like Stannis and his crew

I had no doubt it was the Fool following the end of the pisode until i started hearing everyones theories. Now they all make sense to me.

Maybe he was quick enough to realize Tyrion would be suspected and thus, his wife would also be a suspect?

I also went back and did not see 1 part of the wedding where the fool was close enough to the wine to poison it.

But if I had to put my money on the line, I'd go big and put it all on the line for the fool.
It was a conspiracy

Tyrion is just a patsy.

for us non-book readers, they introduced the fool just last episode so, to me, it would be pretty weak if a guy we know nothing about (the fool) murdered the king for no reason other than that he wanted to impress Sansa.

i think it's much more likely that when he saw it all go wrong, he immediately thought to help her because he figured she might get caught up in the accusations.
He was actually...

introduced in season one.

I haven't read the books either. But The Fool was saved by Sansa on Joffrey's name day early on in Season 2 I believe, when he showed up drunk to fight as a Knight. Joffrey wanted to kill him by forcing more and more wine down his throat. Sansa convinced him it was bad luck to kill someone on your name day, so Joffrey made him the fool rather than kill him.

ah

so much for that...

not easy to keep track of all these characters.

NJGiantFan84 : 4/15/2014 5:01 pm : link
it a point to watch the "previously on" segments because a lot of times they remind you of something that happened a season or 2 ago that may have some relevance in the upcoming episodes. Otherwise I likely would have forgotten as well.

A ton more characters in the book... They actually consolidate a bunch of characters for the TV series. A lot of it is different from the books also so anyone that says they know what is happening because of the books could be wrong. They have the jist of what is going on and what will happen, but it is different.
Start thinking it was the cake instead of the wine
schabadoo : 4/15/2014 5:17 pm : link
And it is easily the Fool. Or anyone else.

When the dogs die in the kennel they'll know it was the food. Or the Fool confesses to Sansa.
"The fool" (Ser Dontos)
Exit 172 : 4/15/2014 5:44 pm : link
Was introduced in the first episode of season 2.
One thing
bigbluehoya : 4/15/2014 7:08 pm : link
That I haven't seen mentioned here in favor of the Cersei/Jamie organizing the poisoning.

I may be remembering incorrectly, but didn't Jamie give Catelyn Stark his word that he'd somehow look out for Sansa when he got to Kings Landing.

He and Cersei had plenty of motive, and Cersei could achieve her desire of framing Tyrion while simultaneously allowing Jamie to make good on his word by putting Dontos up to the task of rescuing Sansa away from Kings Landing (assuming that's what he's doing).

I'm probably doing some combination of mis-remembering and over-thinking, but it does make some sense.

Right or wrong, it is interesting to speculate. I can't get enough of this show.

I think he was involved but more as a delivery /Messenger role I rewatched the entire reception closely several times and it looked like Oleena Tyrel palmed something when she looking at sensa's necklace plus she was sitting right next to where the cup was when they were having the pie. Someone had to set it upand have the fool give her the necklace. Could it of been the gay Prince whatever his name is?

I don't recall seeing little finger this season yet it sounds like something he would do
The Cersie angle is very intriguing
Pete in 'Vliet : 4/15/2014 9:06 pm : link
But he was still her son. That the one thing I don't see Cersie as being capable of. She has been consistently protective of her children from episode 1.

Same goes for Jamie. Joffrey was his son too and he knows it.
