NFT: Camp Sites

What are some good places to take the family camping? Not looking to spend hotel prices to sleep under the stars, but would also like something that has activities/play areas for the kids (2-8 yo). Hopefully can find something within 90 minute drive of Newburgh.
I recommend Rich Houston's back yard.

I had the best 3 day weekend of my life there.

But the last two years I've camped at Wellesley Island State Park in Thousand islands. Really pretty and very car camping friendly for families. The bath houses are fairly new and kept pretty clean.

camping waterside. An 8 year old should be able to entertain him self dawn to dusk. 2 year old is, well a 2 year old.

Leave all electronics for the kids at home.

Bring some celestial charts that you and the 8 year old have studied before hand and lay under the stars.

It will be magical.

but Hearthstone Point camp ground on Lake George is nice. It's only a couple of miles north of the village, so plenty to do there. I would recommend you get a camp site down by the lake, (east side of Rt. 9N) much more desirable.

with other groups of families and thought it was fine. Don't have much to compare it to but all the kids have had fun and some of the families have gone three or four times.

sounds like you never did or don't have a clue about the outdoors.

5 and up year old Kids come over my house and I say lets go give the horses a carrot and they all say yea. Then it is do you want to ride one? Of course they all say yes. Having an 8 yo who can steer a horse through a 3 cone course, their confidants just grows.

Hell, I'm not the best entertainer for young kids at the house. My wife has so many arts and crafts projects, they are always busy.

So PB, taking care of 8 yr old's? Been doing that for my third generation now.

Fantastic, inexpensive throwback amusement park with ample camping. For 2-8 year olds, a PERFECT park with tons of rides for the little ones...

that's where we started with my kids (not that particular one, but jellystone in general).

If you are going camping you are doing the children a disservice if you bring along electronic entertainment.
not worried about electronics

Jellystone and KOA is out. I'm not dropping the price of a cheap motel to go camping. That's just plain dumb. kid and a stream, playground, beach. 20-30 bucks a night is all we're looking for. forget the fancy stuff. thanks!
