Josh Freeman & Matt Flynn expected to work out for NYG tomorrow. Both to arrive in town today
My understanding on the Giants and QBs: They want to sign a veteran before training camp.
I would have said
FLYNN
I don't know if it was the lack of familiarity with their playbook/receivers or the wind, but it was a truly epic atrocious performance.
I've also seen the flipside of Freeman, an immensely talented big armed QB who can also take off when needed and pick up yardage with his legs and has a history of some success at the pro level.
Flynn has had a couple of incredible games in the well-oiled packers offensive system, but he couldn't beat out russ wilson and while familiarity with mcadoo's system/lingo would give him an initial advantage, if all else is equal financially, freeman seems to have the higher potential.
Josh Freeman should not be held responsible for his performance in that game against the Giants. He was just signed by the Vikings and had no time to learn anything. There has been stuff in the news since then with opinions from NFL GM's in the league that he got totally screwed by the Vikings by being thrown in there like that.
The guy obviously has some issues to work through. But the Giants fixed Kerry Collins.
Matt Flynn is the safe signing. If Josh Freeman really wants to get it together then I'd be fine with him too. He can get it done when his mind is right (remember the OT game against the Bucs??)
After eli gets benched
I disagree. The Giants have gone with two QBs when they've had a backup they trusted. If Nassib was ready, Painter, Freeman and Flynn wouldn't be discussed.
He was a very promising young qb, who seemed to lose the support of his coach, then his team, in rapid succession.
Whatever damaged him internally from being around Schiano and that team really broke him. He gets to Minny, who signed him really believing they could fix his head in short order, and they almost immediately gave up on him.
This year's FA begins and nobody even thought about him for a month. Do you know how important qb's are, and the whole league just ignored him?
There clearly seems to be some sort of shared perception that he has something wrong with him that isn't fixable. Do you know how many chances talented guys get? Look at Flynn, who had 1 great game as a backup in GB, and turned it into 3 separate teams trying to hand him the reigns, which he screwed up all three times.
After eli gets benched
LOL.. this guy just tries and tries and tries...
They've also proven they can stink up the place ...
Averages out to an average back-up ...
I think I may have to agree. Ridiculous really if they sign one of these guys and he jumps in front of Nassib for the spring practices.
