NGT: Trump says he wants to buy the Bills

Ben in Tampa : 4/14/2014 9:34 pm
Per PFT (via Buffalo News) Trump says he plans to make a run at buying the Bill franchise. He also says he'd keep it in Buffalo.

As a guy who grew up in Rochester and graduated from UB, I have a soft spot for the poor, beleaguered, Bills fans and hope the team stays in upstate NY.

Plus, Trump would be the most hilarious owner of all time. He'd be Al Davis, Jerry Jones & Dan Snyder rolled up into one.

I'd be surprised if the NFL

even if he wasn't an egomaniacal prick, I think his financial track record would scare the league away.
Can he buy the Mets instead?

Gallisano sold the team a few years back to Terry Pegula. That being said...yeah I hope he buys the team.
Trump
RetroJint : 4/15/2014 12:04 am : link
Has a net worth that has been reported as being at least 2.25 billion & as high as 6 billion. He has about 300 million in cash in hand. When he took the Generals USFL franchise over , he turned it into a winner. It was a competitive league that had some outstanding talent. He couldn't help the Bills? Gulisano already proved to be a hit-and-run artist. Trump knows how to develop commercial real estate. The Bills need a new stadium not another failed upgrade of long-since demolished Schaeffer Stadium's twin. And they need it downtown, not in Orchard Park.

As for the league, note that Browns' ownership should soon be indicted and the Feds are zeroing in on the Cossack who owns the Vikings. So they wouldn't approve Trump? Most of the problem with the Bills can be attributed to short-pockets ownership & a crud stadium that would not allow for sufficient local revenue streams. That is going to be the issue as the Wilson Estate posts the team. The business community in western New York is simply not that deep. At one time the cut of the television contact was enough for the small market clubs to stay competitive. That isn't the case anymore. The exception being Green Bay, which is the sole community owned team that the league allows. The Rams will probably return to LA. The Jags could end up in Mexico City. Drink bottled water only. I think Trump will back out. Cuomo already has the franchise in a golden handcuffs sort of deal that he had no right negotiating Public money should not be spent on stadium construction either through loans or tax-easing deals. They don't help the economy locally, creating seasonal no-benefits vendor jobs.

Trump's casino interests alone
Sneakers O'toole : 4/15/2014 12:17 am : link
will disqualify him among a percentage of the ownership. You have a better chance of seeing Jesus take ownership of the Bills.

Even if his investment in the casino industry is tiny today, his name is forever linked to the industry. The NFL will not play games with that image.

Not so sure about that. This game or gimmick the NFL has become is all about market recall and the Trump name is a brand in itself. It's not good for us, the fans nor the game but it does draw in viewers. Not sure if he's as rich as many of these owners so he could be risky. Then again, his brand might grow the league even faster.

The Trump name
Sneakers O'toole : 4/15/2014 8:08 am : link

Trump in Buffalo
Phil from WNY : 4/15/2014 8:26 am : link
would be a disaster. Buffalo has a provincial feel to it stemming from its blue collar roots that would be at odds with Trump's superficial glitz and glamor.
he will bail out of it like everything else
Essex : 4/15/2014 8:30 am : link
because somehow one of his preconditions were not met. like he was running for governor if no other republican ran, knowing that some other republican was already running. he is the 21st Century version of PT Barnum. A sideshow and a clown. I have no idea if he has the cash or not, but it wouldn't shock me if he didn't. I don't know much about his dealing, but I think he doesn't even own much of his buildings, he licenses his name to other contractors who actually do the building.

to become an owner, you have to submit all of your financial holdings, trump would never do that. imo, that will be the excuse.

Yes

And the NFL has always danced a strange dance around the issue of fantasy football. The both embrace it and keep it at arm's length. They'll just keep Trump at arm's length.

Think it

would be the best thing that could happen to the team and its fans. Trump is at an age where he is looking for a new venue and will go all out to make it work based on his EGO need. Guy makes things happen, always has, and this will be no exception. IMO.

I believe his wealth is quite overstated, and it's absolutely a fact that he licenses his name a good amount. And is notorious for not paying contractors.

He could very easily be worth a mere low nine figures or less as much as he could be a multi-billionaire.

Somebody who is off the radar but a possibility to buy the Bills is Eddie Debartolo Jr. He's got the cash, the NFL's blessing, and is 50/50 mentally on rejoining the league.

I know he's hated on here, but he could easily make Buffalo a real team again.
If the Browns owner

gets indicted, then a lot of the anti-Trump stuff goes away.
