The #Giants are likely to select a center in draft. They held a private workout with Weston Richburg in recent weeks

Raanan NJ.com: Giants likely need to look second round if interested in top center Weston Richburg

I doubt...
2ndroundKO : 4/15/2014 8:31 am : link
they have to nab him in the second. I was hoping for the third round.
Hes good
Andy in Boston : 4/15/2014 8:46 am : link
but I prefer Marcus Martin. I think Richburg is undersized. Martin could also play guard if in fact Walton turns out to be a good center...where Richburg could not.
Richburg @74...
Torrag : 4/15/2014 8:55 am : link
...makes a lot of sense.
Would he last that long?

,
This should make Klaatu happy.
pganut : 4/15/2014 8:56 am : link
I'd love to get the kid also but wonder if he'll be around in the 3rd when we pick.
I also
Andy in Boston : 4/15/2014 9:03 am : link
like Travis Swanson more....
IMO this is a second round pick
SamdaGiantsFan : 4/15/2014 9:59 am : link
does not seem like he will last until our third round pick
When I watched film on Richburg
Mike in NY : 4/15/2014 10:12 am : link
He definitely needs to get stronger at the point of attack and that is against college players, not even NFL starters
Richburg

Played guard in college before playing center.

It does make me happy, and I do think we'd have to take him in the 2nd round.

From DraftNasty:
Quote:
A former member of the Colorado State track & field squad, he was athletic enough to be a hurdler at the prep level. The former Freshman All-American has seen time at every position on the offensive line because he's smart, athletic and stronger than you'd think at first glance. At first glance, there's nothing which jumps at you. He's short-armed with an average overall build. Once you turn on the tape, you begin to see the guile, play strength, football IQ, and flexibility to compete for a starting job early in his NFL career. We think he's quite similar to former USC Trojans center Ryan Kalil, who's since gone on to become a Pro Bowler for the Carolina Panthers.
Not in the second round
jeff57 : 4/15/2014 10:35 am : link
Third round. Maybe.
Not a surprise
old man : 4/15/2014 11:09 am : link
that they would still want a young(er)guy for OC to rebuild the OL.
He's likely a 3rd, but if gone, the Swanson fans might be happy.
MMartin fans: he likely goes late 1, earlier than us in the 2nd round.
I like him a lot ...
Manny in CA : 4/15/2014 11:10 am : link
As I do his Colorado State buddy, TE Crockett Gilmore.
I don't think Richburg lasts until 74, but you never know.
Klaatu : 4/15/2014 12:39 pm : link
Last year, I didn't think Brian Schwenke would make it out of the 3rd round, but he did (TN, 4th, 107). So, we'll just have to see how things shake out. At the very least, I'm glad the Giants have shown interest in him. He impressed the hell out of me at the Senior Bowl. He was the only interior lineman to have any kind of success against both Donald and Hageman.
Richburg, Swanson, or Martin. Get one of them.
Red Dog : 4/15/2014 1:02 pm : link
The GIANTS absolutely, positively have to get better and deeper at Center. And one of these three guys in the 2nd or 3rd rounds is the best solution to a difficult problem.

Having one of these three guys on the bench behind Walton, learning and working in the weight room for a couple of seasons, would be the best way not involving huge money to get out of the bad situation that they created by not drafting one of the premier Center prospects (Mack, Wood, Unger, Pouncey) of the last few years combined with the inability of Baas to stay healthy and the loss of Boothe in free agency.

It's not the ideal solution, but it's what they have to do.

Weston Richburg: 6033, 298
Ryan Kalil (2013 1st team All-NFL): 6-2, 300

Apparently he has All-Pro size.

zack martin opened a lot of eyes in Mobile and held his own against the two guys you mentioned.
^^^
Torrag : 4/15/2014 2:55 pm : link
I should add while playing OG and in 1-on-1 drills....
Handled Donald
HugeS : 4/15/2014 11:47 pm : link
For what it's worth he was the only interior lineman that stoned Donald in one on ones and that includes Zach Martin if i'm remembering correctly.
I liked
Phil in LA : 4/16/2014 1:32 am : link
him for us as a 3rd round possibility.
the buzz is that
area junc : 4/16/2014 8:24 am : link
richburg will go in round 2 - a top 50 player. i would take bitonio over him
Boylhart gives him a 3rd round grade
Milton : 4/16/2014 1:34 pm : link
But doesn't think he'll ever be stout enough or strong enough to be a plus player at center....
Quote:
Weston is what I call a good move center. That means, keep him on the move and he can be a pretty good blocker, but have him go up against an opponent one-on-one and he will get handled....I’m not convinced he will ever have the lower body strength to move those big bodies in front of him and still keep his agility to be a consistent pass blocker...Nevertheless, you have to admire his quickness and other intangibles that give him the potential to become a solid on the move center for the team that selects him.

Guy sounds pretty much like Sean O'Hara II.
BlueLou : 4/16/2014 1:49 pm : link
Pro bowl if you surround him with solid OGs a la Snee and Richie back in their day.
