According to ESPN the Knicks and Odom are close to a 2 year deal which will basically be rest of the season and a team option for next season...
this gives the Knicks 2 months to watch Odom and work him out and see what he has left...if he falters or doesnt look good Knicks simply do not have to pick up his option..
I expect Phil to bring in a couple of his veterans from his past to help...dont be surprised to see Derek Fisher signed...
Could still fill a role off the bench if he has his act together.
I have no interest in bringing him here. I guess the risk is minimal (depending on contract) but I don't see the upside. He has too many issues and the last thing I want on this team is more issues.
Obviously not. It's a flier in every sense of the word.
Don't expect salvation. They're kind of hard wired into this cap situation for another year.
I don't understand why people get all up in arms about signings that aren't going to hurt the team if they don't work out. This is not going to deter the Knicks from doing ANYTHING.
Get mad about throwing away 1st round picks for huge pussies like Andrea Bargnani. This? Stop it.
No financial risk. There is a character risk. Lockerroom cancer's are very detrimental to teams. I hope he is in recovery and doing very well and I'm all for 2nd chances. I just don't see much of an upside here.
But I also don't expect big splash or statement signings. Little things like these are all we can hope for. And in 2013, these "little" signings were greatly beneficial. Let's hope for more of that.
This has no effect on future moves or anything...it is a flier on a guy that has played for Jackson and had success under Jackson..thats why he is being signed...
he is also someone who knows teh triangle and can help teach the triangle...
People who expect a blow up this off season really needs to temper their expecations...its going to be the same team next year because their rebuild will come in 2015 when every contract is off the books...
people expecting Chandler Bargs and Stat traded this off season need to rethink their thinking because its not going to happen...the blow up will come after next season when they have a ton of cap space...
People killing jackson for this signing is a joke..
What exactly is the downside here? They determine he can't help the team, he's gone. That's it.
Expect Fisher to get a call from jackson as well...
We simply don't see upside and don't like the signing. I'd rather not bring someone with deep issues onto a team full of guys with issues. I don't see how that is killing Jackson or getting angry. I think it's a perfectly reasonable criticism of a guy who has been out of basketball for 2 years due to a serious drug addiction.
It's due diligence.
Yeah, he has issues. That's exactly why he has what amounts to a 10-day contract. If they determine he has value, they carry him for next season. If not, he's gone.
other board called it a dumb signing and Jackson is already failing...
People claiming they need to start by blowing this team up dont realize that after enxt year teh team will blow up by itself with contracts coming off the books...
there is literally zero downside to this..
Maybe i should of been more clear then in my opening post...
yes its the rest of this year so 2 games and 2 months of off season...then if he stays clean and gets healthy and looks like he is trying to get into good shape the Knicks will pick up his option and even then its a minimum deal so he can be released at any time..
Apologies all. This makes sense to me now, as nothing they do this year can hinder the team in any way and it's basically a try out to see if he is worth signing for next season.
He's been Kardashianed, which is worse than being a c-head.
