Buy out Richards - even if we have to take a step back, it's better than overpaying Stastny who'll get 8 million at this point.

That said stepping back isn't an option. The team is built to win now. If the club doesn't have an in house replacement option then a trade or FA acquisition is in order.

MacDonald was drafted in 2006, 6th round
Isles paid him $550,000/year at the height of his contract

traded him to Philly after he demanded $5M/6years from the Isles.. got a 2nd & 3rd rounder for him

it doesn't make up for the Vanek debacle, but if I call him out on his errors, I have to at least mention when he gets it right.

Based on Slats' recent history, I'd still be glad if Holmgren = Sather...GFY that he made a smart move on Girardi, but that doesn't seem to overshadow some of the other doozies from Slats' liquor cabinet dealings.

But I'd take him over Holmgren every time.

Is horrible, but I am very much for adding Statsny, he is much better then Richards, and better then any center we now have, plus he may be perfect with St Louis. We have no player ready to step in and be a top line center, if we keep Brassard as our third line center and Stepan as our second line center, then we are in great shape at center, you put them as your top two line center's, and you have a weakness at center, we got by with Richards because he had a good season, scoring 20 goals, you can not amnesty him and hope Miller works out, that is a good way to destroy the team and kill Miller, he simply is not ready to step inm, he can not even get into the lineup right now.

why is Colorado letting Stastny walk? They've got a tremendous young team out there...

Echo thoughts from earlier... NYR are built to win now. You cant 'take a step back' this offseason after doing what they did to acquire MSL and re-sign all of these key pieces now in their prime.

Was hoping JT Miller could step in for Richards next season but barring some apparent needed maturing this offseason, he's not going to be a big part of this team's plans apparently.

I thought he was one of the olympians who shouldn't have made it over Ryan or Saad and then I watched the games and thought he was absolutely right for the team and deserved to be there.

I'd sign him on my team if we're a player or two away.

he is asking for a lot of money AND years for a 2 way forward. his skating is not great, and will decline more with age.

it's really the only concern with him, but it's a biggie.

Overall. Not bad.

I expect us to be much better next year which would mean buffalo gets our 19th pick. Therefore keeping this 5 is nice. We will get a solid player.

Colorado can't keep him because they already have Ryan O'Reilly, Matt Duchene and Mathan McKinnon as C. All are younger than Stastny and McKinnon is 18 and the no 1 pick last year and are playing him as a winger
