I believe they had to call up Sizemore by May 1st, so, yes, instead of playing Canzler and bouncing Johnson around, they play Kelly J at 1st, and bounce the other 3 guys around.
it's a grade 2 which takes awhile to heal.In order to get Sizemore on the 40 they needed to make this move. He might be healed sooner than 60 days. You figure 6-8 weeks.
The Yankees needing a 40 man roster spot also played into it, but Cervelli is definitely going to need 2 months to rehab. I hate to see Cervelli go down again, but I am glad that they found a way to bring Sizemore up.
is 42 to 56 days, so it's not like he's going to be ready and waiting for a month. At that point, he might as well take the extra time to make sure he's fully healed.
I know its a bit off topic but this incident reminds me of yet another great thing about Mariano Rivera. His durability has often been praised but even when he did get hurt he didn't stay hurt. I remember a game in 1999 at the Oakland Colussium . Rivera was closing out a game with a 2 run lead. On the last batter he went down like he was shot. It was a hamstring pull and he had to be helped off the field. This was before they graded them. Two or three weeks later he was back to full strength. I think of this every time I see a Franco Cervelli or a Phil Hughes with their constant string of injuries and long stints on the DL.
As for the game I saw, Ghrahm Lloyd came on in relief, walked that batter and then served up a game tying homer to the next batter. The Yankees eventually won, but I was so disgusted that I left before the end.
It's been a long time since he had an every day job. He's done all his learning and now needs consistent playing time. Murphy will benefit from logging more time at the major league level and learning at the feet of Girardi and McCann for a while.
Trade looked like crap at the time - Lloyd tried to pitch through an injury and got absolutely bombed late in the season, while Pat Listach was a)injured and b)terrible anyway - but Lloyd redeemed himself that postseason and had a nice run as a loogy for the dynasty era teams.
LLoyd's tagline should have been "wake me up for the post season"
#Padres Josh Johnson will visit Dr. Andrews soon so he can look at his elbow. More soon at http://Padres.com
That's like going to the dentist to have them "look at" your teeth. You ain't leavin' there without making an appointment for more extensive work.
This TJ stuff is getting crazy. I'd love to know what's going on. Are pitchers today really doing more damage? If so, why? Or did the pitchers of yesteryear have the same issues, but for various reasons, kept on keepin on?
and is hitting .343 on the season. To me he looked almost finished last year, everything out of whack, but so far this year he has been very good. If he can keep this up he is still relatively young for the level.
and that was a huge component of how impressive he was in his draft year. The Yanks have felt he could really hit if he stopped listening to his dad and started listening to their coaches (though you can't tell it from the results they have with non-baseball scions).
Lloyd only pitched 5 innings in the 96 regular season
And he got bit hard in those five innings. He was awesome in the 96 postseason. In 97 he had a 3.30 era and in 98 he had a 1.67 era. Outside of that first week or so in 96 Lloyd was money. He rarely ever stunk here.
I hope John Ryan is ready to step up.

Yes, double heeader tomw.
What's your strategy for the day-night tomorrow? Start Jeter in the first game? The second? He won't start both.
How about at catcher?
