WR at 12

DonnieD89 : 4/15/2014 4:20 pm
I was thinking about what Paul Schwartz said as to what he thought the Giants would do at #12 and he thought WR. Say this is true and both Watkins and Evans are off the board, is Odell Beckham worth the 12th pick? I know the Giants are for BPA, but to throw this out there. Is he worth it?
What if Donald was on the board?

is a player.. thats for sure.. Id say he would be a lock if he was between 6ft and 6'2"
That would be even
DonnieD89 : 4/15/2014 4:28 pm : link
funnier if Donald was passed up for Beckham. But seriously, do any of you out there think he could be the choice at 12? I saw a mock draft with him going at 13 to the Rams recently.

Agree. My first choice is one to the top 3 OTs, but what if all three OTs, Evans and Watkins are off the board?
For me yes
RAIN : 4/15/2014 4:34 pm : link
I love this kid as a player. He does everything. I'd prefer someone bigger, but I'm not sold on Evans being better. To me, Beckham Jr is a sure thing. The combination of speed, change of direction, YAC, and hands is very enticing.
If we are going WR
EliDLINEera : 4/15/2014 4:35 pm : link
And Watson and Evans are gone . Id go with Brandin Cooks.. I like Cooks over Evans anyway.
You then go Zach Martin
Jimmy Googs : 4/15/2014 4:35 pm : link
and my guess is he can win a job somewhere on this line...
There will be better players available

Ol' Dirty Bastard is a player?
I love Beckham. I like Lee.
robbieballs2003 : 4/15/2014 4:46 pm : link
I think the Giants are high on Lee so it would not surprise me to see him picked there. Beckham is more of a slot and considering we have Cruz and Jernigan so I am not sure they are going in that direction. Regardless of anybody's opinion of him, I think Evans is the prototypical WR they ate looking for in terms of height, speed and toughness. I'm not focusing on his so-called weaknesses for this conversation. I could also see Benjamin being considered because you can't teach his height or long strides. I don't think Benjamin is an option in the first. Guys like Benjamin, Robinson, Moncrief, and the guy on Clemson whose name escapes me right now are probably all targets in the second round or even third.
No, at #12 I think we need . . . .
TC : 4/15/2014 5:24 pm : link
Donald to improve the OL, so he can go deep and stretch the field.

If Evans is there at #12, you take him. Otherwise there should be a few very good WR still on the board for the Giants at #43.

I dont see it happening so if they stay put and grab a wr i hope it is odell beckham. Kid will be very good
Beckham is rising
jeff57 : 4/15/2014 5:33 pm : link
Wouldn't shock me if they took him at 12. But if Martin or Donald is there, they may figure they can get a quality WR in the second round. Someone like Robinson.

Just think about how many defensive tackles come into the NFL and rack up the sacks, who are these player that are playing defensive tackle, and sacking the QB 10 times or more, and if he can not sack the QB 10 times, then why would he even be considered at the 12 spot, and if you think that it is easy to say he will, how many times has Suh, who was a much better college player? If he can't sack the QB 10 times, you think his run defense is going to be that good that he should be the pick? You don't think there is a chance he could be a liability in the run defense, getting blown off the ball by much bigger and more talented players in the NFL. Fall in love with him, but there are HUGE bells and whistles attached to him. Now if he can be put at the defensive end position, then it makes it a night and day difference, because then he could rack up the sacks easier and could actually be moved around along the line of scrimmage and be a real force, if he can fill that role, like Tuck did, maybe a little different, then he could be worth the pick.
He was used at DE at times
Dave in Buffalo : 4/15/2014 6:50 pm : link
SB Nation has a write up on him. It briefly talks about his use at DE. I believe the article had a vid of him beating the tackle for a sack.

Instead of talking out of your ahss...I suggest you watch the tape and then let us know if you are aware of other draftable college players in this years draft with film like this!!!

What you will see is a fast, powerful, unblockable player that still dominated despite the fact that he was the only player of note on the Pittsburg defense...and facing double and triple teams from layers 30-50lb heavier...despite that he was still beat guys constantly like a drumbeat...

watch the film and see why there are Donald lovers on this board...I had my doubts...till I watched the film myself...it almost looks like what we use to see 25 years ago when we watched the Giants and saw LT dominate despite the fact that teams knew they needed to stop him and the put 2-3 guys on him and the still couldn't stop him...this guy Donald appears to be that good...and I don't care about the size when the guy is quicker, faster, stronger then the guys he is going up against...even though he is giving up 30-50lbs...based on that...this is not a guy that will have problems against the run...you would have seen it on film if it would have been an issue...

Beckham would be a great pick at 12
A Aron Balakey : 4/15/2014 7:45 pm : link
At worst I think his floor is the Jets at 18. Love this kid and would be extremely happy with the pick. Has the chance to be the best WR in a very deep class.
there are a lot of good wars this year
Hades07 : 4/15/2014 8:16 pm : link
Watkins is clearly #1. After that there are a few players that are all of equal talent with different strengths. Evans, Cooks, Lee and Beckham could all be considered #2 depending on what you are looking for.

WR,TE or OL at #12. Donald is great. I wouldn't be mad at the pick. But even if we went back in time, stole LT in his prime and resigned him on our current time, he STILL couldn't defend against a pick 6.
