Schein NFL.com: Eli Manning suddenly New York Giants' biggest question mark
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000341526/article/eli-manning-suddenly-new-york-giants-biggest-question-mark

Jason Fitzgerald Over The Cap.com: Free Agency Thoughts: New York Giants
"Overall Grade: C+
The Giants got better this offseason but I question the cost of doing so, in particular the Rodgers-Cromartie contract that is very player friendly for a player who is by no means a sure-fire bet. They would have been better off committing to Joseph and finding another second tier cornerback. The Giants pushed a few guys into a paycut and did not rework the contract of either Eli Manning or Antrel Rolle, which was a good move since both could be on their way out next season.

I think the team has added far better depth for next season, some of whom bring some upside on lower cost contracts. The way they approached the offseason tells me that they are unsure of where they are right now and how competitive the team can be. Most of this feels like a team making keeping their fingers crossed and taking one last chance with this group. I think they are at a position where I could see them getting hot, if Manning is on a good year, and going deep in the playoffs or just completely falling apart and having to sort through a veteran roster for at least one more year before they can get younger and competitive, likely with a new GM, head coach, and QB."

Picks at 12 the last 10 years

All of them have been fine except for Ponder and Haydn.
I haven't been that optimistic regarding our chances next year...
Britt in VA : 4/16/2014 9:01 am : link
I feel like this is a two year rebuild.

However, seeing guys like Schein, Graziano, and just media in general crap all over Eli and the Giants...

I expect to win the division next year.
Britt,
BrettNYG10 : 4/16/2014 9:07 am : link
I've never been less confident in my ability to predict this team.

Not that I'm ever confident, of course, but for years I felt comfortable predicting 8-10 wins.

I wouldn't be surprised if we win the division - nor would I be surprised if we go 5-11.
Sounds like Smith may be done with the Niners

And vice versa.
The division stinks

Eagles lost Jackson. RGIII is an unknown. The Giants have as good a chance to win it as anyone.

area junc : 4/16/2014 9:23 am : link
we just dont have that good of a team. Our O-Line is still the worst in the league, Eli is a monster ? and our receivers (and tight ends) still stink

we have a solid - not great - defense that is missing a pass rush.

our kicking/return game looks upgraded

overall, just not seeing how we're much better than last year which is a scary thought
Im sick of hearing
lester : 4/16/2014 9:37 am : link
this "Eli is on the decline" crap. Its like one person writes their dumb opinion and everyone then comes up with their version.
In this day and age of parity...
Britt in VA : 4/16/2014 10:45 am : link
the league is built for teams to go from worst to first, year in, year out. As I look around the division, looks like everybody else sort of stood pat minus Desean Jackson swapping teams.

We upgraded a lot of positions. On the other hand, we had to because we stunk.

We have somewhat of an element of surprise going for us next year in that nobody knows what our offense will look like. It worked for the Eagles last year.

Our defense was good enough last year, and we've significantly upgraded the secondary. Although we did lose Linval Joseph. Unfortunately, I don't consider Tuck to be much of a loss. He was a great player for us. Was... Need to stay consistent on D, if Pierre Paul can return to close to his prime form, we'll be alright there.

So yeah, no idea what it will all look like. But as other have noted, we have as good a shot as any.

The fact that most pundits have buried us, as well as the fact that we haven't made the playoffs in a couple years now... Well, strictly looking at the odds, I like our chances. Guess we'll see.
net gain/loss
area junc : 4/16/2014 10:52 am : link
i'm just no sure we upgraded.

baas out, walton in
tuck out, ayers in
andre brown out, jennnings in
boothe out, schwartz in
nicks out, manningham in
linval and rogers out, nobody in
webster out, DRC and Thurmond in

no doubt we have upgraded the secondary and return game, other than that.......what have we really done?
If they are not injured and missing games...
Britt in VA : 4/16/2014 10:54 am : link
they are upgrades.
Will be interesting to see if Foles
Simms11 : 4/16/2014 11:07 am : link
was a one-year wonder or the real deal?! Eagles could still be the team to beat again. Dallas has too many question marks, as well as the Redskins and of course teh Giants. Could mean the NFC East will be up for grabs again, which could bode well for the Giants.
Actually, I retract my statement on Graziano....
Britt in VA : 4/16/2014 11:14 am : link
I unfairly included him. I just looked at his recent articles on the Giants and their situation, and he has been fair.
