NFT: Wednesday Rangers Discussion

NVA_Blue : 4/16/2014 11:32 am
Couple of updates today. Brassard back on the ice at the Rangers morning skate, expected to be fine. Also it appears that Falk and Diaz will be healthy scratches, along with Carcillo (Katie Strang).

Steve Mason on the other hand, did not make it out and it appears the Flyers will go with Ray Emery tomorrow night. If it is indeed Emery in net....here's hoping the Rangers throw everything & the kitchen sink at the net.
Let's Go

RANGERS!!!!
Somewhat surprised to see
bigbluehoya : 4/16/2014 11:39 am : link
Diaz sitting in favor of Moore. Not a big deal to me.

I disagree with playing Fast over Carcillo. Especially against these scumbags. Carcillo has done a really good job of stirring the pot while also being smart and avoiding the stupid stuff.

No disrespect to Fast. He's finished his checks and back-checked hard. Id just prefer the experience and grit.
Sure
PaulN : 4/16/2014 11:58 am : link
That it is Fast and not Miller? I know Miller was recalled.
That would definitely soften my stance
bigbluehoya : 4/16/2014 12:01 pm : link
I'm not sure if it would totally change my opinion though.

Interesting. Wasn't aware of that. Thanks, Paul.

If true, I think AV looks kind of silly about the whole Miller treatment/callout etc.
Emery's been announced for tomorrow.

Av said his comments on Miller
Davisian : 4/16/2014 12:38 pm : link
were meant for any young player. still seemed pretty harsh at the time..

If Fast is in for Kreider, then Miller must be in for Carcillo.

And I'd sit Klein over Diaz. Klein's got moar grit, but not like he's some bad ass out there and I like Diaz's game over his. Moore and Diaz would make for a pretty quick thrid pair that can both shoot the puck..

Dav
bigbluehoya : 4/16/2014 12:44 pm : link
Is there a forward roster spot that I'm missing? Dorsett is healthy. So one of Carcillo/Miller/Fast is the replacement for Kreider. No?

No way I'd sit Klein. No offensive game, but he has really been solid on the defensive end. I'll forego Rafi-bomb's offensive presence for KK's D.

I agree with you RE: Diaz, Dav.
BrettNYG10 : 4/16/2014 12:45 pm : link
Also, arc better not start any fucking threads.
Dav
redbeard : 4/16/2014 12:48 pm : link
Klein has proven throughout his career that he can handle top 4 minutes. You don't sit that in the playoffs. He's a superior player to Moore or Diaz even though he lacks some of their sizzle.

Moore has played well since his return and has more size, strength and nasty than Diaz. Third pair should be Klein-Moore unless they prove ineffective.

Can we drop the fucking puck already?
Yup, I dressed an extra skater..

Klein has proven he gets exposed with top 4 minutes. Not crapping on the guy, I like what he can bring, but I like Diaz better in that spot and the advanced stats say Diaz is the better player.

We can drop 'em
bigbluehoya : 4/16/2014 12:51 pm : link
But I too wish we could dress all 3 of JT, Carcillo and Dorsett
also, wrt advance stats..
Davisian : 4/16/2014 1:24 pm : link
I don't fully understand them at this point, bit it seems the Rangers stack up pretty well against the rest of the East.. except for Boston.

The pens overall seem better, but they nose dive when their big guns aren't on the ice..

Circa 2009-10 and earlier. Emery's only game against us this year was a 4 goal affair. His game before that against us was 3/2012, where he let in 3 goals.
Emery's

certainly not the same goaltender he was back in 2009-10 when he padded his stats against the Rangers.

He has hip issues and like I said in the other thread he struggles to go post to post. We should be able to exploit him...

4-0 in my last 4, I will be starting Game 1 tomorrow night just for you, you fuckin crybaby.

Anyway.. I'd much rather Carcillo than Fast.. I don't think Fast is ready. Especially not for playoff level shit. So that's kind of a bummer if that's the direction AV is going.
I'd rather see Fast or Miller in over Carcillo
redbeard : 4/16/2014 1:47 pm : link
We need to play our game if we want to win this series. Putting Carcillo on the third line to trying to slug it out with Philly is a recipe for disaster. Put in Fast or Miller, who can play the fast-paced, skating transition game we want to play.

Fast certainly looked ready during his latest stint with the team.
.
arcarsenal : 4/16/2014 1:51 pm : link
Miller, yes. I'm still lukewarm on Fast though. I think he still needs a little work.
arc - seriously, I appreciated your tenacity throughout the season
MetsAreBack : 4/16/2014 2:31 pm : link
and you raised your game in the 2nd half.... the win streak to end the year was a pleasant surprise.

but i'm not sure you're they guy i want on the hill taking the ball for Game 1. No offense, but we didnt have to play game 163 just to get here. We had time to set the rotation - and I want my best player out there leading the charge.

'Beard should get the call.

She was an obnoxious Flyers fan, and I can remember us watching game 5 together and seeing her get angrier and angrier as the Rangers kicked ass in the Spectrum.

I should have figured television was behind it ... it's just that back in the late 70's when I was getting my wife interested in hockey, my recollection is that the playoff games were back to back games or, at most, every other day... but nowadays it seems the games are much more spread out ... probably just my perception combined with bad memory

At our best, we've got this series. I could see Philly becoming increasingly frustrated, especially if Hank is locked in and shutting them down.

Just need this day to go by quickly. Excited to be starting a series in MSG too. Despite all the playoff appearances since the lockout, it only happened in 2012.

Savvy Rangers fans are taking their show on the road for the first-round series against the Flyers.

According to SeatGeek.com, there is a huge gap in the prices for tickets already sold on the secondary market between the games slated for Madison Square Garden and those at Wells Fargo Center. The games in New York (Games 1, 2 and, if necessary, 5 and 7) are averaging a sale price of $257.03, while the games in Philly (Games 3, 4 and, if necessary, 6) are averaging $131.63.

“So far, 30 percent of ticket buyers for [Games 3 and 4] have come from the NYC metro area,” said SeatGeek’s Connor Gregoire. “By comparison, only 4 percent of ticket buyers for Games 1 and 2 at MSG have come from the Philly metro area.

“Based on those numbers, it’s fair to expect much more of a Rangers-fan invasion in Philadelphia than vice versa.”

Surprising, Rangers in recent years haven't invaded local rinks, like DC, during playoff time. Wonder what is causing the buzz this season.
