Here's a link to his top 15 from last year. He had Nassib at 5.
5. Ryan Nassib QB Syracuse
Excerpts from my profile written from film and just after the college season and before The firing of Chan Gaily and the hiring of Dan Marrone. Date of profile, December 2012.
“Ryan is a mentally tough, strong-armed quarterback who is just starting to reach his potential. He has good size and strength and reminds me a lot of Jim Kelly (former QB, Buffalo Bills). Ryan is smart and has the athletic talent, arm strength and accuracy to be used in any style of offensive system. He works out of a multiple formation offense that includes working from under center as well as shotgun. He is a power runner and will make the short yardage himself on third and fourth downs when needed. Every time I see this kid he improves — from year to year and from game to game. He understands down and distance and will throw the ball away inside the red zone to save a score. Not many young QB’s understand that part of the game, so it’s impressive that Ryan does. Ryan is pretty sharp inside the 20 yard line and is always looking to score. He has good, quick feet and throws well on the run. His throwing mechanics have improved from year to year, which speaks to his ability to understand how much more he has to learn. Ryan’s leadership skills are decent and will get better with experience. This is your sleeper QB in this draft and I suspect as we get closer to the draft you will be hearing more about him. He has starting potential right now and, if he continues to improve his passing like I believe he will, then the team that drafts Ryan will have their franchise quarterback also. Ryan is a quarterback who can open the running game up because of his passing”. Link - ( New Window )
but to rank someone as the 5th best player who goes in the 4th round is more than just a bad call..Players drop precipitously all the time, but usually character issues are the main reasons. As far as I know, Nassib was squeaky clean
FYI, this is what DraftNasty had to say about Nassib:
Quote:
Nassib's development took yet another step in 2012. Coming into his senior year, there were some questions about whether he had a top-level arm. He silenced many of those notions with strong efforts when indoors (Louisville '12). He did, however, perform in uneven fashion versus teams with strong pass defenses when outdoors. It didn't seem like he ever became completely comfortable with the pass rush of Minnesota when the pocket collapsed. Nassib is most similar to former TCU signal-caller Andy Dalton in terms of NFL size and potential. The biggest difference between the two is that Dalton had better deep ball touch and mobility at the conclusion of his career as a Horned Frog. We think Nassib has third-round value in the 2013 NFL Draft.
But over the years of reading Boylhart I have found a few things to be true:
1. He's weakest when evaluating QBs (he also had Arizona Cardinals QB Ryan Lindley, who was was a 6th round pick, to earn a "1st round" grade.
2. He's best at evaluating/projecting either A. undersized or B. slow 40 time/straight-line speed Wide Receivers. One of his best and most recent calls on that front was TY Hilton, who he believed to be one of the best WRs in that class and worthy of a 1st round pick
3. He is wild on his LB predictions. He had Sean Lee as a Top 10 overall player in that draft, but he has predicted several INSIDE linebackers to be 1st round grades that have turned into busts very quickly.
outside the box because he is a talent evaluator and a good one. Reese and Ross just look at measurables and hope the picks are football players who can be developed. Wish we had the former not the latter.
Well, I still don't think that Trent Murphy is the 6th best player Â

Reese brought us two Super Bowls. Boylhart's the moron who said 'trade your mother' for Eli Manning, then balked afterward and said the Giants overpaid.

Careful what you wish for.
When DB did that it angered me to no end. He basically said, "If you took my advice, you were a stupid asshole?"
and look at his top 15s and see how they turned out. Maybe he is spot on when all is said and done, but to look at Nassib two years later to evaluate him isn't fair.
He comes off as a guy just trying to be different for the sake of it.
I can see that it looks that way, but that's not really the case. He's his own guy and he doesn't care who disagrees with him. Here's what he had to say about Justin Tuck -

Talent Board Round 1
Oh man, has this kid has got a ton of upside to him! He has this natural strength, long arms and legs and just gets better and better. Don’t be afraid to draft this kid no matter what his numbers are at the combine, because this kid will improve so much in a year or two that other teams will smack themselves in the head and fire their scouts for passing on him. He should be a first day pick, and I believe if he stayed in for a 5th year, he would be a 1st round pick. Mark my words…this kid will be an impact player in the NFL. However, you will have to be patient; it will not happen right away. Remember, don’t be fooled by his combine numbers. They might not be that impressive, but his play on the field will be.
Boylhart rated him as a 1st round talent. We got him in the 3rd round.

Every sctoung blurb I wanted to read was instead him defending his scouting process. There's no content.

Hope that helps
