NFT: NFT-Costa Rican Vacation

Shirk130 : 4/17/2014 4:04 pm
So my wife and her mom have decided that we are going to take a vacation with the whole family to Costa Rica. I'm not against the family vacation idea, but I'm more of a beach guy than a zip lining through a forest kind of guy. That being said, the decision has been made, and now I've been given the task of figuring out where we should go. We have kids ages 10-14, adults, and senior citizens, and we are planning on going next April. Any recommendations are much appreciated.
We stayed here

and although the resort was nice, there wasn't much to do, and the beach was clogged with people trying to sell you shit. Costa Rica is beautiful, but I would do your research on resorts, as we were in the middle of nowhere.

Especially if you are bringing kids, you will need lots for them to do.

it kind of freaked us out a bit.

Last winter i went to the Westin Playa Conchal. It was awesome and a very good all inclusive (and a good all inclusive)

Costa Rica has something for everyone, whether it would be hangin on the beach/pool, or eco tours (ziplining etc)

The Westin was a short cheap hotel shuttle away from the beach town of tamarindo where there are surf lessons, shops and restuarants. We took a sunset snorkel cruise from there and it was the highlight of the trip.

Costa Rica and the Westin is highly recommended.

Let me know if you have any questions
I went to Tamarindo last year

really enjoyed it

Not the most beautiful beach I have ever been to but the wife and I enjoyed taking surfing lessons together, the people were very friendly and there are some nice restaurants and fun beach bar type places.

I'm sure there is zip lining near by but we didn't hit that up

I went a couple of years ago with my family

and stayed at Playa Nicuesa. We heard about it by word of mouth recommendation from a friend and have in turn recommended it to one of my clients who enjoyed it as well. My family loved it. It may or may not fit your needs but is definitely worth a look!
Im actually going in 2 week...

Going to Monteverde area for a few nights then across the lake to the Arenal volcano area.

A friend went a few years ago and recommended this place to stay

He also said definitely hire a driver and not rent a car. The roads are brutal there.
Just got back from my Bachelor Party in CR this past week...

Jaco Beach was great fun but our group was clearly not necessarily looking for the same experience as I'd imagine you are on your honeymoon. Ziplining through the rainforest is incredible, the dollar goes a very long way, and the beaches are terrific. We had a private villa on the top of a gated community in a rainforest and it was pretty epic.
Thanks for the info!

The Westin looks nice for an all inclusive. But I also like the idea of a villa. Are there particular towns I want to be near?
A colleague is there right now

He literally said about his time

AMAZING, AMAZING, and more

I'll find out where he is
Again, it could very well just be a party town

But perhaps check out JacoVIP.com to see if that sort of villa/concierge treatment would interest you. We paid the company and they provided us with a villa much beyond my expectations, a full-time driver, a maid, a cook, and a team of hostesses that organized any trips to towns/zip line tours/ATVs/yachting/etc and generally ensured our enjoyment/safety as locals in "the know."
as stated above Tamarindo is a fun town

if I was to go back with the family I would probably rent a place like this. We spent a day at the beach club associated with the property and had a blast

South of Jack, less built up. It has the zip lining, but beaches too. It's a little surfer town. I admit there is a bit of bias since I own a rental villa down there, drop me a line and I can give you some more info.
