NFT: New York Rangers vs. Philadelphia Flyers, Game 1, 7:00pm

arcarsenal : 4/17/2014 4:17 pm
Alright, let's fire this fucking thing up. It all starts here. We're going in relatively healthy with only Kreider out. Mac Truck is ready, Brass is good to go. Time for MSL to step the fuck up and do what he's always done in the playoffs.

We must protect home ice and ideally, we need to get out of this series in less than 7 games because if we're going to make a run, we can't keep getting stuck in long series' like we did 2 years ago.

Trim or shave the beard one last time and keep the bad vibes the fuck out of here. Let's fucking go.

That team is just so pathetically predictable.
arcarsenal : 4/17/2014 10:37 pm : link
The second the game is essentially decided, the goon clock starts and they start swinging their sticks like fucking axes, taking runs and cross checking left and right. They are a bunch of fucking losers.
Arc, pretty funny
Kyle in NY : 4/17/2014 10:37 pm : link
how that happens on cue every time they're down late with little hope. Garbage team

you weren't at the game right? The crowd seemed damn fine to me - and we dominated the final 2.5 periods of that game.... So whatever the crowd was doing... keep it going.

In general crowd noise is really fuckin overrated anyway in this sport. Execute your plays, beat your man... that's what wins hockey games... not if a crowd can sing a song the loudest.

With all due respect, that's just not true. Much more than football, a hockey team can definitely feed off the crowd when it gets rocking ... there's literally a rhythm to the crowd noise at a game ... and the "Lets Go Rangers" chant is over 50 years old ... and it isn't "sung". So, it tells me that you are less than 50 years old and have not been to Ranger hockey games in person in the 70s and 80s to witness it yourself. I have. Well over 100 games at the Garden. And the crowd doesn't "sing"

Wait. So you weren't at the game?

You're preaching like you were there. Bitching and moaning like you paid for seats and you're legitimately upset by the crowd.

The crowd sounded on point the whole game except for the 5 minutes after Philly scored. Which is to be expected.
Heck of a game by the boys in blue tonight!
nyjuggernaut : 4/17/2014 10:40 pm : link
Dominate performance!
now just bring in Joey Kocur to beat the shit out of Berube like the

StL just tied the Hawks with less than 2 minutes left.

God I love playoff hockey. I want every game outside of the ones we play to go to like 3OT's

But this Avs - Wild game is exciting too

It's amazing how much faster the Rangers are than Philly even without Kreider.
This SJS/LAK series is going to be a fucking bloodbath.

this St. Louis game has had wild action the last 5 minutes.

Duncan Keith is awesome.

Brutal penalty on St. Louis, obviously the correct call but man that sucks for them for that to happen in OT
I can't believe Tarasenko didn't end it before..
arcarsenal : 4/17/2014 11:24 pm : link
He had a wide open net. I think Toews must have got a stick on it or it was bouncing.. he fanned on it and Crawford was completely out of the play.
This chi-stl game is awesome

That 4 minute pp was amazing. Thought I was hallucinating.

And lost my phone at the Garden. Still awesome.

I think baadbill stole it with his mind to post on bbi about the crowd underperforming during a game he only attended in spirit.

Ive been to many many games this year and I can say with 100% accuracy that the crowd at times this season has been atrocious but tonight was just fine and erupted with authority when necessary.
Think
SethFromAstoria : 4/18/2014 12:08 am : link
that now that we got the first game and played some nice tight D for the most part, we should play with a little more anger and toughness. I know the general consensus is that the Flyers are "tougher" but I genuinely believe we are better and should throw them around whenever possible because they expect to do it to us. But we should do it more to them

Either way, that was really fun to watch them convert opportunities and get production from essential players. Just keep it up and play with more fire at all times. We could be a tough match up for any team when we play our best.
I felt like we were fairly physical tonight.
arcarsenal : 4/18/2014 12:15 am : link
A lot of our guys were hitting. I never really felt like the Flyers were really imposing any sort of will on us.
Fantastic game
Anakim : 4/18/2014 12:17 am : link
We dominated from start to finish. What? We only allowed 1 or 2 shots on goal in the third period? Very few quality scoring chances against Henrik all game. Richards was absolutely phenomenal in the third period.

If we play like that every night, we're going to be a force to reckon with

That's New York fucking Hockey
wow, Roy pulls the goalie with 3 full minutes and a one goal deficit
Greg from LI : 4/18/2014 12:17 am : link
Don't see that too often
Roy has been doing that a lot this year,
arcarsenal : 4/18/2014 12:18 am : link
He pulls the goalie really, really early. Actually did it to us last time we played them, I think he pulled him with over 2 minutes left.. worked, too.
CHI/StL headed for OT3

Stastny

just tied it with 13 seconds to go
It's crazy that the Blues got to the Cup Finals 3x in a row..
arcarsenal : 4/18/2014 12:22 am : link
..in the first 3 years of their existence, lost all 3 times and haven't been back since. Almost 45 years since they've been in the Finals. And this is a team that has only missed the playoffs EIGHT times in 46 seasons. Eight.
playoff hockey is nuts
stockton : 4/18/2014 12:22 am : link
how can anyone not love this stuff?

And Sather is salivating
Future Rangers great
SethFromAstoria : 4/18/2014 12:49 am : link
unless we win the Cup due to games for Richards like he had tonight and we happily keep that contract flowin.
that's gonna leave a mark for Minnesota
Greg from LI : 4/18/2014 12:49 am : link
Blowing a two goal lead with less than ten minutes to go, and they had some great chances to make it a 3 goal lead.
I really
MookGiants : 4/18/2014 12:54 am : link
hope the Rangers dont sign Stastny in the off-season. They need to amnesty Richards but they should not take that money and give it to a 29 year old who is good but not great. Use that money wisely down the road. They have to amnesty richards so he's not destroying their cap situation down the road

I mean if he asks for something insane, I agree completely. I do think they should sign him if he wants just a little more than his current crazy contract. Again, our goalie is great and not playing forever.
I get that he's not going to play forever
MookGiants : 4/18/2014 1:16 am : link
but Stastny is not the type of player where you just say fuck it and go all in with a crazy contract. He's a nice player, but not a star. I think you'd be better off taking the money and building more depth than signing him. And he's going to get a huge contract, he's going to get overpaid because he's going to be one of the best on the market, even if I dont think hes a star, he'll get paid like he's very close to one and he's really not
yeah I mean his prior contract
SethFromAstoria : 4/18/2014 1:39 am : link
sorta fucks shit up.

Check this out:

Both Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek, the most potent tandem on the Flyers’ top line, finished without a shot the entire night.

Niiiice

a thought just occurred to me
oipolloi : 4/18/2014 5:27 am : link
the Rangers can win the cup this year

Of course, I know, it's just one playoff game, and I would never bet that the Rangers will win the cup.

But until tonight, I never even entertained the thought of the Rangers winning the cup. To me, this year was all about building to the future. I still think that is true. But right now, I would say it is possible--albeit not likely--that the Rangers can hoist Lord Stanley.
So Oi.....
MetsAreBack : 4/18/2014 8:02 am : link
you're saying there's about a 20:1 chance that the Rangers win the cup?

Funny, that's what Vegas thinks to.

Anyway, the only reason any of us have generally been in favor of the MSL trade... or even the Nash trade... is that this team, if healthy and if Hank can get hot... can beat anyone in this league. This team isnt built to contend in 2018 anyway.

Fuck it. All In.

Another thrilling night of hockey
MetsAreBack : 4/18/2014 8:36 am : link
NHL playoffs are off to a great start.

Starting to look like we wont see too many upsets in first round, albeit Game 1's can often be misleading - but its the way the favored teams (ANA, SJ, NYR, MTL, PITT) controlled the play, or in Pittsburgh's case, just looked a lot more experienced and poised....

I thought MIN had a shot to take down COL, but last night's loss will be difficult to bounce back from and bottom line, Bryz Universe is terrible... to pull the upset, Minnesota would need Harding or at least Backstrom in the pipes.

I still think we'll see Pittsburgh vs Anaheim Finals... with the upset of the tournament being Montreal over Boston... but who the fuck knows, I certainly hope to be pleasantly surprised... and LGFR!
Excellent work by the Rangers!
mfsd : 4/18/2014 8:40 am : link
And by all you monkeys on this thread...good on you, boys

I missed half the first and half the second while in transit, but it looked like our boys really controlled the play...some beautiful crisp passing, and Philly never got any kind of physical upper hand

Keep it fuckin rollin, you hosers!
I don't trust Anaheim's goaltending..
arcarsenal : 4/18/2014 8:43 am : link
And there's always Boudreau.

I think they get past Dallas but I have a feeling they won't get past SJS or LAK (I think SJ wins that series). Even if they somehow did, I think the winner of StL/CHI is probably going to get to the Conf. Finals and I'm not sure ANA would beat either of them.

Wouldn't mind seeing the Finnish Flash hoist the cup one more time, though. Great career, great dude.
