Top 20 QB's passing yards all time and their age last year

NY-Fan : 4/19/2014 2:40 pm
So I went and looked at the top 20 QB's for passing yards in their career and what their age was the last year that they played. Of course there are the guys at the top of the list that were able to play to a much older age. Then there are also many guys that were pretty much done a few years before but were able to hang on by floating around and being backups or were just not effective.

I don't think Eli is done but if you look at this list it is obvious that there may not be many years left. I don't think Nassib has trade value and really if you have a young QB with maybe some potential you don't trade him if you really don't know how much longer your current QB has. If anything you give him more reps in the pre-season to see what he has.

My guess is Eli has a few more years left in him for sure. He has never really been banged up and that helps. The one thing I would say is as you get older you can't take hits like you once did. If the Giants are going to keep Eli around for a few more years they need to invest in him. I know many say Donald would be nice but a solid O-line, TE, go to WR and stable running game would be the right direction to go with this team. The defense is solid enough to win but the offense needs to be the focus. That is the way I would go.

Top 20 QB's passing yardage career and their age last year played:
(Remember many were done before this age)

Farve 41
Manning 38 (current)
Marino 38
Elway 38
Brees 35 (current)
Moon 44
Brady 37 (current)
Tarkenton 38
Testaverde 44
Bledsoe 34
Fouts 36
Collins 39
Montana 38
Unitas 40
Krieg 40
Esiason 36
McNabb 35
Kelly 36
Manning 33 (current)
Everett 34

These are in order by passing yards so Eli is 19th all time as of now. He should move into 15th after this year if he throws for 3,000. I think he will finish top 10 for career for sure.
By quick count only 6 of the above won SBs

with only Brady, Eli and Montana winning two or more

Favre, Peyton, Montana, Brees, Elway, Unitas, Brady & Eli = 8
Eli will start for another 5 years

and win one more superbowl for us. Maybe then the "fans" will stop questioning his greatness.
If Eli could play for 4 more years and get one more Super Bowl win

He would shut everyone up. That would put him top 7 in yards and tied with only Brady to accomplish that. I doubt Peyton wins 2 more.

I do think this team can get back to being good very quick. I like the moves this offseason and their salary cap situation going forward. Also if the young guys like Randle, Robinson, Moore, Hankins, Prince, Hill and others step up along with 2-3 solid picks this draft they could get back very quick. Don't think that the offensive line signings this offseason won't help. They have started in this league and as a unit could perform well.
Before last season shit show

I expect Eli to be top 10 in passing, TDs, comebacks and active streaks. Add 2 SBs AND the fact in 10 seasons he only had 1 losing season since he has started a full season.

That's pretty damn good.
Eli was a good QB…...
Simms11 : 4/19/2014 3:56 pm : link
hopefully he bounces back this year to some semblance of normalcy - 3,800 yards, 27 TDs and 12 INTs would be just dandy!
Id like him to
AnishPatel : 4/19/2014 6:04 pm : link
obviously bounce back, but it would be great if for the 2nd time he can get over 30 TDs.
Eli's best years were when he had a tall 'X' WR

And a solid OL. I think with our offseason moves our OL is alot better. Get him that big target I'm telling you guys he misses being able to have a playmaker who can go up and MAKE plays.
Unitas
Mike in Boston : 4/19/2014 10:50 pm : link
did not win a superbowl; his championships were in the pre Super Bowl era.
Statistics say
CT Charlie : 4/19/2014 10:58 pm : link
that both the mean and median of the data are 38. Seems reasonable to think that Eli will have roughly another 5 years.
Unitas did win a Super Bowl, I believe it was number 5

Unitas

The Colts did win SB V 16-13 over Dallas. Unitas, age 37, was knocked out of the game with a rib injury in the second quarter & Morrall, age 36, replaced him.
Eli should have 3 to 7 years left.
Reale01 : 4/20/2014 1:49 pm : link
Unless there is an injury.
I expect 6 more years from him

if we give him a competent OL to keep him o n his feet.
