I remember I had just gotten to my apartment a bit early prior to my sophomore year of college. I picked up the CD at Tower Records, broke out the ol' Graffix and slapped on my headphones and settled in for all of the tasty tracks. Definitely a record best enjoyed with quality headphones.
Paul's Boutique was very ahead of its time (Dust Bros. a huge part of this). Car Thief is a top 5 BB song. It was just such a departure from License to Ill which, while iconic, is a pretty silly album and not all that impressive from a musical standpoint.
It's second to Hello Nasty IMV, but Paul's Boutique is just a fantastic album.
I remember being laid up with a bad knee in the summer of '89, and laughing my a** off when the video for "Hey Ladies" came on MTV (knew nothing about the BB's). Finally caught on to them when Check Your Head came out... good stuff.
You ask any 18 year older about PB...they would have no idea.
For the most part I hate the music when I was younger....PB was a high point.
I'm glad someone mentioned it

Which is among my all-time greats.
Paul's Boutique was great, Licensed to Ill was better IMO.
