NFT: Powdered alcohol approved for public consumption

DanMetroMan : 4/19/2014 10:00 pm
Introducing Palcohol, the world's sneakiest and most efficient way to get drunk. This week, the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved the powdered booze product, and its makers hopes to unleash it on an unsuspecting public this fall.

Palcohol's website, which has since been scrubbed, once advertised the powder as the solution to many of the modern drinker's most pressing problems. (A cached version of the original site is still accessible here)

Take, for instance, the overpriced drinks at stadium events.

1. What's worse than going to a concert, sporting event, etc. and having to pay $10, $15, $20 for a mixed drink with tax and tip. Are you kidding me?! Take Palcohol into the venue and enjoy a mixed drink for a fraction of the cost.

take the coke bowl scene from The Departed, replace the coke with this, and multiply by college parties everywhere. I think I'll stick with whiskey that's poured fresh from the bottle.

this will end well.
How long will it be before children die or some old person mistakes it for sugar and croaks because it mixed with their heart medicine.

but other than that, it sounds like an innovative solution in search of a problem.

As a light weight antiseptic agent for camping/backpacking/safari etc type trips. And a good last night on the trial if you've had no reason to use it mid-itinerary.
Trail, not trial.

So uh, about that approval of powdered alcohol,
Mad Mike : 4/22/2014 10:41 am : link
yeah, that was an "error".

Quote:
A product called "Palcohol" gained widespread attention online in recent days after it was reported that the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved the powdered alcohol, including vodka and rum varieties. But a representative for the federal bureau, Tom Hogue, said in an email to The Associated Press late Monday that the approvals were issued in error. Hogue did not immediately respond to requests for further details, including how the error occurred.

The article also says that Palcohol's company says there was a discrepancy about the "fill level" of the packets, and they're resubmitting the labels for approval.

IF it's simply a labeling issue,
BlueLou : 4/24/2014 5:22 am : link
it's just a matter of time. The TTB is very strict about labeling, but nothing that the "Palcohol" folks or their advisers (sometimes companies hire "label advisers") will get it straightened out soon enough.
Watch the 1961 movie...
