NFT: EPL-Moyes' return to Goodison

DG : 1:19 pm
was not a success. Blues 2- Red Devils 0.
United eliminated from Champions League for the first time since 1995.

coyb!

Don't know if the Toffees can get into the top 4, but
it has been really enjoyable watching Everton play this season. They stay on the attack continually. Baines and Lukaku were revelatory as usual. Stones, Coleman, Mirallas and Distin very effective. Hope Mirallas is ok. He limped off near the end. Naismith is Naismith (:

As for United, they have no offensive tactics, that's on the manager. And their back line continues to be dreadful.

Everton has matches at Southampton, home against City and at Hull, while Arsenal's final 3 are home against Newcastle and West Brom, and at Norwich.
i cant believe mourinho has no interest in Lukaku

If Chelsea didn't loan out Lukaku I think they win the league because he's been better than the strikers Mourinho kept. It will take silly money to keep Lukaku on the blue side of Merseyside though
If Everton

can get into the Champions League, Kenwright may be able to find a wealthy buyer. That would change things.

Mata could have made a difference to Chelsea. I hope Chelsea beats Liverpool next week. That's the season.
A little Prem roundup

Everton fans were chanting "sacked in the morning" at their old manager which might happen if Man Utd doesn't think Moyes can at least get them back to the CL next year. That being said, Man Utd is traditionally patient with their managers and it took Fergie several years to elevate them (7 before he won the title)

Liverpool march on towards their first title in 24 years at Norwich, although the title pressure got to them a little bit because they conceded two soft goals. A fantastic effort by Sterling (2 goals, including a 25-yard missile in the 4th minute) saved them.

Arsenal won 3-0 at Hull and looking at their run-in, I think they get 4th over the Merseyside Blues because their run-in is easier (they don't have to play Man City and Everton do). I would love to see Everton get 4th though. Howard's form this year in goal has been terrific aside from the thrashing they got at Anfield and if he carries that to the WC the USMNT will have some hope to get out of the group of death.

Can't see Liverpool in this kind of roll losing at Anfield. Chelsea could get a draw but I feel Pool's best chance to lose will be Palace away, provided Palace is motivated to finish in the top half of the table and don't relax because they're safe.

Liverpool need 2 wins and a draw to clinch, but I don't think they'll even need that because City will have a really hard time running the table. They looked like a tired club against Sunderland and they will most likely be missing Toure for the run-in
Howard was terrific today

as usual.

The level of talent at LFC is ridiculous (Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Gerrard, Skrtel, Coutinho, Henderson, etc.)

Much as i root against them, i respect their talent.

Their game against City last week was one of the best matches i've seen this season.

Crystal Palace is really playing well, as is Sunderland. I hope Sunderland doesn't get relegated. Norwich is in trouble given their ending matches (United, Chelsea, Arsenal.)

Also I wonder how Mourinho will manage his side
dpinzow : 3:09 pm : link
over the next week. He might prioritize the CL because the chances of winning the two legs against Atletico is far greater than his chances of winning the Prem. Chelsea is an underdog against Atletico too but the second leg is at Stamford Bridge and if Chelsea can limit the damage in Spain he has to focus more on the CL. He might field full-strength sides for Atletico and play some reserves at Anfield. If Chelsea get destroyed by Atletico in the first leg then he'll field a full-strength side at Anfield and go for broke
With Matic cup tied

Hazard still nursing an injury, and Ivanovic out of the first leg after picking up a yellow in the second leg against PSG; it's likely Mourinho will just try to minimize the damage and hope Chelsea can pull it off at the Bridge. Ba likely to get the nod at striker, with Luiz, Lamps, Shurrle, Willian and Oscar in the midfield.

Can't say I have too much faith after the home streak came to an end yesterday. With Hazard out and Oscar's form plummeting the last few weeks, it'll take some luck to get past a very good Atletico Madrid.

Agree with those that can't see Liverpool losing at Anfield; certainly not if they continue their recent form. Chelsea's hiccup along with YaYa sidelined by injury the remainder of the season, likely results in the title returning to Liverpool for the first time in 24 years.

You have to credit The Canaries though, they are pretty much fighting for their premiership lives to stay up. Their final three fixtures are brutal with United, Chelsea, and Arsenal. I really don't see how they are going to get a result out of any of them. The bottom of the table is really tight. Cardiff is another one I see going down. They have a tough road ahead of them also with Sunderland next week. And finally, I think Fulham is the third team to drop.

Norwich could stay up. I could see them getting something at Old Trafford because United's season is finished (heck, almost everyone else has done pretty good there). Man U is going to play with one eye on the summer because they're officially out of the CL next year and Europa League action will just hinder them in their chase for the title in 2014-15, so there's no reason for them to move up the table. Man U's players could tank in an attempt to get Moyes sacked. Also, if Arsenal has already clinched 4th by the final weekend, they're going to treat that like an exhibition match and play their reserves and kids because they have an FA Cup final to attend to. Chelsea will still be at least playing for CL qualification next year, if not the title, so Norwich is probably getting stuffed there.

I think Cardiff, Fulham, and West Brom are going down (too many draws for West Brom)
I pray to God
Chelsea can pull out a win against Atletico. Obviously Madrid have to take care of Bayern, but I would much rather play Chelsea in the CL Final then Atletico.
The only thing West Brom
has going for them is that they will have a game in hand after tomorrows game against City. Looking at their upcoming fixtures, there are some games were they can definitely get some points; West Ham, Sunderland, and Stoke. That is why I am still taking Norwich going down, because they have less outs. Going to be an interesting few weeks.
Cpl thoughts:
natefit : 6:43 pm : link
Raheem Sterling has lpayed himself on to the UK WC squad, jumping ahead of Lennon and Townshend (both Spurs).
Moyes will get another season due to RVP injury and inevitable aging of back line etc. Look for MU to be very active in transfer window.
Ill be shocked if Torres is still on Chelsea next season
United

were awful today, they have been for the majority of this season so it can't be a suprise really. Moyes has got some serious issues to sort out in the summer, there's too many mediocre players at Man United now. It must be strange for their fans after what they have experienced for the past 20 years.

What I'm finding funny at the moment is that here in England there seems to be hundreds of Liverpool fan sprouting up from nowhere as if by magic. Makes me even more proud to support my local team, however bad they are doing or whatever division they are in.

There's a bit of romantic appeal about Liverpool for a lot of English neutrals. They're the grand old club that dominated before the Premier League era, before the huge influx of money made the game less appealing. Liverpool is perceived as the club that won with ingenuity and grit in the 1970s and 1980s while Man Utd is the club that can only win because of Sky Sports money. They're also the club that dominated Europe to a greater extent than any other English side, and England always wants to see their club teams rule the Continent. Add in the injustice against their fans from the Hillsborough incident, and it's no wonder Pool is regaining its status as England's most popular team.

This perception was different for a few years in the 1980s. Liverpool after Heysel was by far the most hated team in the First Division because their fans got English clubs banned from Europe for 5 years. Everton fans are still angry at their Merseyside rivals because they were robbed of a chance to win the European Cup in 1986 due to the ban (and back then, Everton was really, really good, like a 1A to Liverpool's #1)

If I were a Real fan I wouldn't care much about the other semi because the task at hand is daunting enough to begin with

Trust me I know. I wanted no part of Bayern. I think they are the best team in the world right now. They scare me to death. Just saying if we do get past them I would rather play Chelsea.
Liverpool is having an amazing season. Raheem Sterling has made
