Top 12 picks - as it relates to NYG

JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 12:42 pm
I think we can all agree that no QBs, RBs, Cs, OG, CBs or Ss are likely to be on the Round 1 wish list.

Is this top 12 reasonable?

1. DE Clowney
2. LT Robinson
3. LT Matthews
4. WR Watkins
5. OLB Mack
6. WR Evans
7. DT Donald
8. TE Ebron
9. LT Lewan
10. OL Martin
11. WR Beckam
12. LB Barr

Of course, this ignores the high likelihood that 2-3 QBs get selected prior to 12.
I don't think we can agree....
Hades07 : 4/21/2014 12:46 pm : link
QB, RB, G, C I can agree because they aren't taking a QB and the other positions don't have players with mid-high first round value. CB and Safety are possible as they have players of value (Dennard, Gilbert, Fuller, Pryor and Dix) and there is a need for young talent at both of those positions.
Barr will NOT be the Giants pick
SalTony56 : 4/21/2014 12:53 pm : link
If no QBs are picked which sounds like it will happen that way ( many teams believe the QBS will be available in rd 2 or in Browns situation later in rd 1)Then I am making a Guess
Giants will take Zach Martin....but still hope Donald is there.
1-9

Seem quite likely, not sure of 10 and 11 being this high, but overall quite possible.
With so many teams 1-16, with so many needs, maybe except the Bears at 14, most of those names could end up anywhere in the top 12 teams in the draft; and the wild card is StL at 13, who I think go WR or Ol at 2, QB at 13.
What a fun draft night on May 8.
Evans at 6?
ZoneXDOA : 4/21/2014 1:05 pm : link
Atlanta has far bigger concerns than WR. I'm sure they aren't scrambling to replace White and Jones. Unfortunately I can see 1-5 and 7-11 nabbing Evans (more likely 7-11)

I might be alone in this but I feel like there are lots of receivers we can grab this year and we are in a position where we can grab BPA at 12 no matter what the position is. I would love getting Evans or Ebron, dgmw, but I wouldn't be mad at dennard or Donald or Lewan.

Not Evans at 6 to ATL

its a NYG specific ranking of the players
Agree with Hades07.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/21/2014 1:08 pm : link
Expand the list to 17 and add the top five DBs. Until the Giants exercise Amukamara's option, cornerback is very much in play, and there happen to be two CBs with consensus grades pretty close to #12.

With Z. Martin on the list, you're not really excluding guards, since there's a good chance he would start out there. As for the WRs, Beckham at 12 would certainly be a surprise, though not a total shock. So in all, your list is pretty good aside from excluding the DBs.
I am also not saying
JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 1:10 pm : link
Barr is the pick at 12
I don't think the NYG can spend this 1st rd pick
JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 1:14 pm : link
on a CB after signing a top 5 CB (DRC), a top 5 slot CB (Thurmond), another CB (Bowman), a solid albeit journeyman CB (McBride) and while the option on Prince isn't yet picked up, he's a Giant for 2014 at the least. Hard to imagine taking a CB when Evans or Martin or Lewan or Donald are sitting there.
What about CJ Mosley?
Wonderphil11 : 4/21/2014 1:18 pm : link
I wouldn't be totally shocked as I agree that one QB, at most, gets picked before 12 and that'll take most of the "favorites" off the board

I call bullshit. No offense though. Thurmond and bowman are on one year deals and prince is in his final year. I got MURDERED because i thought if the giants were to sign kevin williams then they wouldn't take a DT in round 1. Everyone got on me saying that it wouldn't affect them getting donald. If lewan evans ebron and donald are off, i would settle for martin but i would love dennard also.
of the 12 I listed
JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 1:31 pm : link
who would you take a CB who wouldn't start (unless injury) over?
JOMO25: Even when the Giants draft for need...
Big Blue Blogger : 4/21/2014 1:34 pm : link
...it's not necessarily immediate need. Often, it's for need a year out. As things currently stand, CB will be a problem in 2015. And DRC is hardly the rock of stability you plan a defensive backfield around.

Barr because he doesn't fit and Hebron because he isn't good. But who I would put there doesn't matter. The Giants will not take CB or S off their board because of the FA signings. Not saying they will take one, but they might.
I don't think they can afford that luxury
JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 1:45 pm : link
with glaring needs at WR, TE and OL....I expect a draft that looks like this:

1 Evans

2 Bitonio

3 Telvin Smith

4 CJ Fedo

5 Terrance West

5a Jeff Janis

6 Vinny Sunseri
Ebron..
Hades07 : 4/21/2014 1:45 pm : link
Damn autocorrect
Hebron.
Klaatu : 4/21/2014 1:49 pm : link
Funny, he doesn't look Jewish.
Now let's assume 2 QBs are selected prior to 12
JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 1:53 pm : link
1. DE Clowney
2. LT Robinson
3. LT Matthews
4. WR Watkins
5. OLB Mack
6. WR Evans
7. DT Donald
8. TE Ebron
9. LT Lewan
10. OL Martin
11. WR Beckam
12. LB Barr

At worst, you end up w Martin. Not bad.
I could easily see Reese taking Gilbert over Barr or Beckham.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/21/2014 2:03 pm : link
Maybe over Martin or Donald. Possibly even over Ebron or Lewan or Mack. If the Giants think the kid is the next Revis, no CB on the roster will prevent that pick.
Add Evans to the maybe list above.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/21/2014 2:06 pm : link
Shutdown corner trumps big target.
I also don't think any CB in this draft
JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 2:10 pm : link
is viewed as a top prospect.

Gilbert is an athlete but far from polished.

Dennard is the opposite.

D.J. Hayden was the #12 pick last year after almost dying in practice.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/21/2014 2:26 pm : link
Stephon Gilmore was #10 in 2012 despite wearing the same label as Gilbert: superior athlete with flawed technique.

Dre Kirkpatrick? Prince Amukamara? Malcolm Jenkins? Leodis McKelvin? Imperfect prospects, sure. If they had been perfect, the would have been picked even earlier.
Rolls is also in the last year of his contract
BlueLou : 4/21/2014 2:30 pm : link
And there are 1-2 safeties that need to be on the list.
none of those teams
JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 2:31 pm : link
had 3 top starting CBs plus outstanding depth

not to mention our holes at WR, TE, OL
damn auto correct
BlueLou : 4/21/2014 2:31 pm : link
Rolle.
I don't think HaHa or Pryor
JOMO25 : 4/21/2014 2:32 pm : link
are top 12 players
id add
hutch33 : 4/21/2014 2:44 pm : link
