McClain told Seth Wickersham of ESPN.com that he was walking away from football, this time for good, saying “I’m done.” “If football made me complete I would play,” McClain said. “But whenever I think of it my heart pulls me away from whatever reason.” |
In conclusion, shut the eff up about who we have to pick because you don't know diddly. Thanks.
The Giants apparently really liked McClain and Spiller, but both went before the Giants pick

FYI he retired from the Ravens, they seem like a pretty regimented team to me
He gave it a shot, but like he basically says, his hearts not in it.
An athlete with no 'heart' is less than a JAG.

Does his career end the same way on a team with more regimen than it did on the Raiders? We'll never know. Teams like players for their potential, but no matter how good they are at drafting they can't predict the future.

He's never played a down for the Ravens. In fact, I don't think he's ever stepped foot on the field as a Raven, even in a practice. His career trajectory was already headed downhill by the time he signed with them.
Didn't he do it because his son missed watching him play football.
He was signed by the Ravens a year ago, then a few weeks later retired. This time he tried once more and finally re-retired. I wish him luck and hope he can live guilt free with his decision.
I don't know if an aborted second attempt at his age (still well within his prime) is necessarily closure. It'd be different if he at least made it through camp and stuck to the roster.
I don't think its a slam dunk that the giants would have taken him. I remember mike garafolo reporting that the feelings on mcclain were mixed in the organization. He was a polarizing prospect just on film alone. I don't think anyone could have imagined he had the mental issues he has. Everyone gushed about his film study habits. ESPN even did a piece on him not too long before the draft. Pretty sad
They have to work at it (even the naturally gifted ones), day and night, night and day, giving up any sort of normal high school/college experience, ruining their bodies the entire time. Try not to judge too harshly as you (at best) do a couple hours a week of gym workout, or (as normal) sit at the computer with a bag of Doritos.

Well said.
I wish him all the best.
