Not to mention that Brown allows you to give Granderson days off against lefties. There is nobody in the OF for Kirk to platoon with as EYJr is better from the left side and both Granderson and Kirk are lefties
If AZ or SEA offered Franklin or Gregorious straight up, would you do it?
I don't think I would but there's certainly an element of possibly selling high, plus at some point they're going to have to trade someone in the numbers crunch.
RE: Mejia looks like he's dealing - hypothetical question

Mejia should be in the rotation going forward. That's the bottom line. if they want to transition him to a pen situation when his innings become an issue so be it but this kid should be looked at as an MLB starter. Sorry.
is oddly extremely "over discussed" by Mets fans. This is a guy who wasn't even considered one of the top 15 SS prospects in baseball when the 2013 season started and he went on to put up a very Ruben Tejada-esque 2013 (including a truly awful final 4 months). Do I think he's better than Tejada? Absolutely. But Mejia has the stuff to be a LEGIT 2-3 starter.I'm not saying he's as good but he reminds me a lot of Cueto.
just saying a Mejia for Didi trade could be fine... but the potential downside is absolutely massive. If Mejia stays healthy most would agree he could be a guy you want starting a playoff game for you, Gregorius realistic upside is "solid starter". I'd be pretty sick seeing Mejia become a bat missing all-star while Didi is a "solid" player for the Mets.
everyone is penciling in Wheeler for improvement and greatness, Mejia turns 25 in October, Wheeler 24 next month. Wheeler has made 21 MLB starts, Mejia is starting #15 (and most would agree he's been jerked around quite a bit). Mejia could be quite good. I don't care if he's 6'0 or 6'7.
on a 2015 rotation of Harvey, Mejia, Wheeler, Syndergaard, and Montero. Trade Gee, Neise, and Colon for a couple pieces. Its going to be time next year. Maybe keep Gee as the 5th starter to guard against injury and keep Montero in AAA but Montero seems pretty ready right now, let alone a year from now. We'll still have Degrom and talking about Matz super 2 next year as well.
These pitchers we've been going against isn't going to help these hitters bust out although Darnaud looks like he already is somewhat. I just want to split this series with the Cards and take 2 from the Marlins.
though for a while. I was firmly in the Ike over Duda camp. Im not even sure Brown is ever going to show the power that Ike has and I fully understand Im getting WAY ahead of myself.
can say Ike never would have succeeded at Citifield when he already turned in a 32 home run season there and lit it up for 4 months or so only a little over a year ago. He was also very good in spurts in other years but just had injuries and weird things happen to keep him back. He's still young enough where I would have given him one more chance this year. He had already fixed most of his problems in Vegas last year from what I saw.
They basically handed Duda the job and gave him the advantage out of the gates. I think they should have given Ike one more real good look. Maybe it would have worked out, maybe not. But after he hit that GS, he should have stayed in the lineup for a bit. He got one start after that, got 2 more hits then he got yanked out of the lineup for a few games and they started jerking everyone around again.
ridiculous HH. To speak in absolutes like that is completely over the top. Because Sandy chose Duda over Ike and let it be known that AUTOMATICALLY assumes Ike's little soul was crushed and could never succeed here again?? Thats some leap.
Exactly. And Ike's entire approach was much much better since coming back up from vegas last year. He may not have hit a lot of homeuns in September last year but it isn't arguable he was a much better hitter. He talked about it himself in spring training this year in that he wasn't swinging at pitches outside of the zone anymore. He had no idea what he was doing for most of last year before that. He never got a fair chance this year and with his pedigree and ceiling I would have given him another look.
kaput, the only reason he made it Spring Training was Alderson didn't get what he wanted. The " competition" in ST was bogus and it was a matter of time. That time came and there is no looking back
he was finished in NY. And in one of his only plate appearances of the year he came in, in a high pressure situation and hit a grand slam. Definitely finished. We know that for sure obviously.
with it anymore. Alderson made a decision to after last season to get rid of Ike Davis. Period, end of story. It was only a question of when. Now we know the answer to that
HH but as arc, me, and others are saying, he likely chose the wrong guy. I hope Duda does great but I would have kept Ike and given him one more shot. Im disagreeing with Sandy's decision not with what happened. We all know what happened and that Duda was the choice.
since joining the Mets. I'm not crying over losing Ike because the FO had made their decision. But Ike has a much higher ceiling than Duda. The whole situation is just strange...but i guess that's normal with the mets.
Ike really never got a fair shot this year. The FO already had their minds made up about Duda because they love him and his awesome OBP. How was a dude in Ike's shoes supposed to get going this year?
Slowly but surely guys are waking up. Obviously Wright and Murphy have heated up. Darnaud seems to be coming out of it. Duda has been pretty consistent. Just need Granderson to bust out and C. Young to do what he did all spring and we'll be off and running.
Also Flores is waking up in AAA with the bat, and even though he does have 4 errors, early reports are that he's showing much better range than expected and is making all the routine throws but is just having trouble with some decision making and hesitating and whatnot. That should get better as he gets more comfortable. Im still rooting for him.
interviewing Bryce Harper and Mike Trout (separately) about how they are often compared to one another and Harper came off as a raging douchebag while Trout came off quite humble. What a sense of entitlement that bag of dicks Harper has.
the team is constructed as well. This team is completely devoid of power in its lineup and we really don't have any power prospects on the horizon any time soon. Ike just hit 32 home runs a little over a year ago and hit 20 of those in half a year. I don't think this team could have afforded to throw Ike away without giving him another shot this year. But they did. Oh well.
35 homerun beast this year with Pittsburgh, thats exactly the kind of thing that could have happened to us this year to turn us into a fringe contender this year as well. Ike was a wild card for sure, but thats exactly the sort of unknown production this team could have desperately needed. Im still hoping Duda shocks the world and hits 30 home runs but Im not counting on it.

According to a Mets official, the earliest Joel Hanrahan will probably pitch in the big leagues is mid-June. But Mets are interested.
only got home at 8pm (busy time of year) and by the time I checked in it was obvious that the Cardinals weren't hitting again and that to bother with another game where Matheny brings Shane-effing-Robinson off the bench in a high leverage pinch hit situation was just not going to bring the best out of me.
The Cardinals have Taveras, Grichuk, Butler, and Piscotty hitting well in AAA and yet they go with Bourjos, Robinson, Descalso on the bench, don't use Kolten Wong, and refuse to sit Allen Craig who is in a season long slump. I feel like the Cardinals are like the New York Philharmonic being conducted by an amateur: They still sound great but they could be so much better if they had a competent leader.
with trading Davis, but I didn't really see what rush to annoint Duda with the job. Why not hold on a little longer and see if Davis looked to have it together? I understand having 2 lefty 1B who need ABs is not ideal, but sometimes you have to wait until you have more information before pulling the trigger on a move.
I'll be able to deal with it if Ike Davis has a good year for Pitt. I won't be able to deal with this if Duda ends up being a complete bust. Our scouts took a look at both guys and made their mind up. They at least need Duda to play like a legit MLB 1B starter for me not to lose a lot of faith in our front-office.
Was told the Mets still have not discussed whether they will make an offer to Joel Hanrahan.
Sarcasm?

nope but for owings for Arizona I would

Agreed. That is Fashion Week shit right there.
Love the Ike... Miss the Ike... Too bad he was unable to be successful here.
Like I said, just prepare for Ike to turn into a 35 HR player now that he's gone. We kept the wrong guy.. too late now, though.
Mejia is a pitcher for crying out loud. You really need to stop complaining for the sake of complaining
WPIX?
He needs to do it consistently for a bunch of starts in a row, but he's making a strong case to be part of that rotation when they contend.
Ike had more value and he was not the answer for the Mets, so you trade him.
Duda is playing 1b by default.
That would really be something.
but if I never saw Ike in a Mets uniform again it would be too soon.

Now to Farnsworth
If you say that too loud Collins will Scott Rice him and ruin his arm.
1 more out.
And while we are giving out credit, how about Murphy defensively? He started out rough last year but he looks damn good most the time.
He got it done tonight, though. Good enough for now.

It's happening quicker than I thought. I know he probably needed to not be here anymore, but we're going to regret trading him.
