Whether he wins the appeal or not, though, one team source added that the Giants are livid at Hill’s continued drug issues and he’s likely “done” with the team, whether he wins his appeal or not.
For months now, posters on BBI always threw the caution flag when mentioning Will Hill as a safety we could pencil in this year. If many posters had serious concerns about Hill & drugs, don't you think the Giants front office was thinking of this also?
I suspect the Giants have prepared themselves for another Hill suspension and eventual termination.
The surprise would be if he did keep himself clean.
Every spring/early summer we get bad news it seems. Â
i know this seems crazy, but this could actually work in our favor. the guy was Pro Football Focus' #2 free safety last season, and he only played 9 or 10 games. if this suspension is for weed, he just smoked himself out of a big contract, meaning we could keep him here on the cheap and get great production from him...when he's on the field.
i do agree that the leniency ends at some point, but given how good he was last season, i'm just not sure this is the end.
I can't BELIEVE this jackass. Our secondary including Will Hill was looking absolutely INCREDIBLE for this upcoming season. The guy is an incredible talent at safety. I can't even believe the Giants SHITTY luck here.
G*DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not ENTIRELY luck; the Giants picked him off the scrap heap (on the cheap) hoping Charlie Way and team leaders could correct addictive behavior. They couldn't. But they went into it with their eyes wide open.
But predictable. The thing is the guy knows they're watching him like a hawk . Too early to write him off, but, remember the collection/ analysis industry is even more careful with a repeater.
Now Thurmond is the concern. You simply can't get away with this shit, anymore.
Then we'll spend years wondering if cutting him was the right decision.
If we have standards and this breach undermines it, then we let him go no matter what. I don't care what the rivals do once the guy is let go. If Dallas wants to roll the dice then fine. They did with Dez Bryant and they picked up Pacman jones. They even brought TO in. So if they feel he can help and the rest of the stuff they don't care about then we can't control that.
everyone that is eager to get rid of Will Hill for repeated violations would have felt the same way if it was LT and they had this drug policy in place when he played. Yeah it's a stupid hypothetical, but I'd bet 80 % would be singing a different tune. Flame awy
As bad as this sounds, the Giants can't afford to cut Hill. Let him serve his suspension and bring him back on the roster. He is too valuable. I look at this the same way the 49ers are treating the Aldon Smith situation. Does anyone here have a problem with the 49ers not cutting Aldon Smith? Arguably he has done things far more warranting being cut than Will Hill. Hill has a problem requiring rehab, but his talent and ability on the field is without question and that gives him more consideration than a marginal talent.
is the injury history of this team. if Hill is suspended for 6 games, for example, getting him back in October when other guys are banged up could be HUGE for us. and i'm not even hedging by saying "if" they're banged up because it's all but a certainty at this point. we look great on paper in the secondary today, but don't count on that being the case six months from now.
i'm pissed too, but Will Hill is still a tremendous player and is still under contract for this season. let's not write him off just yet.

yeah, that's deep, dude. maybe we'd sing a different tune because LT is the greatest defensive player of all time? you're really going out on a limb there...

To be fair, the niners may not really have a choice. He could very likely to go jail regardless of whether they decide to put up with him or not.

Hill has been to rehab for weed twice since joining the Giants...
I wouldn't care. His level of talent I'd bend the rules for. Shoot, Parcells admitted he had a different set of rules for LT and the rest of the team. I am not saying Will Hill is the LT of Free Safeties, but I will say he is a difference maker and those you dont get rid opf
the standard for someone like him is clearly different (or should be) than it is for a fringe player. the issue is, this very well could be strike #3 and the team's patience is not unlimited.
WH is a supreme talent that no one would touch because of his off the field issues/ character. The Giants took a chance, and it looks like it failed. This is what happened to the Raiders all the time (although in the70's they did have a lot of success with this).
Look up "screwed up your life", and WH should be the poster child. The guy had it all.
He is all-pro level of ability and play and a local HS star. He is too big a risk. MYbe cutting him will be doing him a favor and straighten him out. Unfortunately, it would be with another team
“He’s getting a chance because he’s good,” said Michael. “There’s always a need for more left-handed pitching … He’s been clean for two years. I asked a lot of people a lot of questions about him, his makeup, the type of person he is. I feel there’s been a lot worse things done in baseball than bringing Steve Howe back. If it was my son or your son, you’d want to give him another chance.”
Yes Steve Howe was a great story of redemption and multiple chances Â
I'm not sure he doesn't still have a long career ahead of him. This won't help, but he's still immensely talented and he will play again.
not necessarily. 29 teams passed on him in the draft and free agency, and it's not because of his lack of talent. if this suspension is for a year, any team that takes a flier on him afterwards is taking a huge risk because a further test would lead to an even bigger suspension (or perhaps a lifetime ban?). it doesn't sound like Hill has the desire or mental discipline to stay on the straight and narrow and turn things around.
because he is already suffering the consequences of suspension. He will lose a lot of money and it harms him when the time comes for a long term contract. So, I would just let it play out, continue to offer him rehab and let him grow and mature. The issue with him is one of a genuine addiction and maturity. There is no issue with his play on the field and if he had his head on straight, he would be a Pro-bowl caliber safety. It is so easy to just write people off in society, but I think people need to understand that it takes some people time to grow. Will Hill is not a bad person, just a very immature person. Don't cut him loose, where he can become a further burden on society, when it won't really cost the Giants more than a PR hit, to continue to try to work with him and see him through this immature period he's in. I say keep him on, save the draft pick and welcome him back when he's done serving his suspension.
?? If you constantly get suspended then you have an on the field issue Â
Not 12 and certainly not 10. Your constant lack of presence on the field and the need to compensate is an issue. What's next the team has to schedule roster decisions to meet his annual hiatus.
He'll be the most elite part-time NFL player ever.
That's what's going to happen if this plays out. This time he'll miss 6 games. Next time it's a full year.
Quote:
benefit of the doubt? We're assuming it's weed, but we'll have to wait on that. Perhaps he wins his appeal..
Well, he was suspended for Adderall once before too. Either way, it's not good.
we actually don't know what he is suspended for.
Hill (agent) said it was adderall but the NFL is not allowed to disclose that info
Prince will be gone next
Year and fewel so we
Wont be using 3 safety
Anymore...get cb and
Mobile lb...

Good thing we have such a deep bench.
oh wait...

If this turns out to be a six game suspension, no way do I cut ties with him.
It's still early. :)
Yep, if it's a year then I, as begrudgingly as possible, move on.
i can't either, but Dan Snyder hasn't won jack shit.
Redskins already cut him.
