Freeman's contract: One year, 795,000 contract; 55,000 bonus

QB Josh Freeman signed a one year, $795,000 contract with the New York Giants on April 21, 2014. Freeman received a $55,000 signing bonus. His contract qualifies for the minimum salary benefit.

Yes, but the CBA's special provision on "qualifying" 1-year, minimum salary contracts greatly reduced the cap hit on that contract. From a cap perspective, there is no difference between a minimum-salary 5-year vet and a minimum-salary 12-year vet, if both contracts qualify. (From a cash perspective, the owners do still have to shell out the larger salary, of course.)
