NFT: Could anyone give me a camera rec?

Looking for a small, portable pocket camera.

Only requirements are that it has to be better quality than an iPhone but similar in size.

I've looked at the Canon PowerShot S120 as one possibility, but looking for any other suggestions as I'm not that well informed on the subject.

I've always been partial to the Canon PowerShot Elph series. Nice and small - fits anywhere. Other cameras might have slightly better specs, but the Elph's specs are more than sufficient and the tiny size wins me over. I'm on my 3rd digital Elph (going back 15 years).

You wont really find those pics to be much better than a phone

these days, the phone cameras are pretty good, 8MP on an IPhone 5S and more on a Samsung. You can add a memory card, and many new phones take HD video as well.

Unless it is for a child that you dont want to have a phone for some reason, then stick to your phone IMO

most compact cameras aren't better than a phone's capabilities. I use my Samsung Galaxy and it works as well or better than a sole-use camera.

This actually isn't for me. I'm trying to purchase a camera for someone else as a gift. This person uses her iPhone to take tons of pictures, so in getting her a camera I'd like it to be better quality so it's not a lateral move.

If not a pocket camera, are there any other reasonably priced cameras that are one's I should definitely look at?

are you sure they'd use it though?

do they take a tone of pics with the iphone because it's handy or because they like taking pics? Have they hinted at wanting a better camera?

I have the TG-1. Has a fast lens with additional lens available, shock proof from up to 6.6ft. GPS photo tagging, full manual to full auto/programed shooting. HD video, and if thats not enough you can snorkel/scuba with it up to 40ft of water without an external housing. The newer versions can go as deep as 50ft and have wifi. Price, about $350.
