CONNOR HUGHES MEDIA DAY UPDATES

Connor_Hughes : 4/22/2014 2:47 pm
Media day has officially wrapped up after several players took time out to speak to the media.

I'm working on a recap blog as we speak, and we'll have several other posts coming throughout the day highlighting some of the best that we learned.

However, wanted to open up a chance for you guys to ask me any questions you had. I'll do my best to answer them all.

-Connor

First off thank you for your work

I am curious, was Will Hill at the facility?
Will Hill
Connor_Hughes : 4/22/2014 2:51 pm : link
If he was, he was not marched out to the media, as was expected. Several players were asked about them and judging from how they talked about him, specifically Antrel Rolle, I do not believe he was there.
Thank you

Reuben Randle...
2ndroundKO : 4/22/2014 2:52 pm : link
What "something" could have possibly come up for him to skip Duke? Was it the same thing that came up last year? What has he done differently this off-season?
Who Connor Hughes?
Semipro Lineman : 4/22/2014 2:59 pm : link
What number does he wear? What position does he play? Why does he get his own thread? Answer my questions darnit

Cruz talked about it later, seems like a family issue.
I will admit, it's a little confusing
jcn56 : 4/22/2014 3:03 pm : link
that there's Connor Hughes and Connor Orr.

Any chance one of you guys could change your name? Hank Hughes has a nice ring to it.
it's our intern!

stop yelling at us in all caps, intern.
Thank you Connor- great job

I know there was nothing "official" on Hill today, but gut feeling from being there today and talking to people off the record, after the shock wears off, does he get another chance or is he as good as gone?

Met him for the first time today, really nice guy. Funny thing is both of our work appears on NJ.com. He covers Giants for The Star-Ledger, I cover high school sports for The Star-Ledger when I'm not here.

From talking to many people here, all share the same opinion. It's very, very likely Will Hills is done with NYG.

Herman, Snee, Hynoski, Stevie Brown, A. Robinson?

Updated are coming via a blog later. This is for fans to ask questions.

that's for answering questions.

Below are some tweets regarding our new offense from the beat writers.

Quote:
Big difference in new offense is it won't be based so much on body language, according to Victor Cruz. #giants

Eli expects offense to be similar to Green Bay after seeing the playbook this week. 'It's Ben McAdoo's offense' #giants

Chris Snee says everything is new on offense from terminology to run concepts. Haven't even gotten to passing game yet #giants

Manning: Offense might have some west coast tendencies, but McAdoo will have his own style. #nyg

My question is have you heard anything else regarding our new offense? Have you heard anything new that you can elaborate on from the tweets above?

Snee looks good, really good. Also, Stevie Brown was talking same time as Rolle so I missed that, but I saw reports he is ready to go as well and will be 100% for camp. Right now, Snee has zero limitations and doesn't foresee any in the future.

Hynoski and Herman were not brought out to the media to talk. I saw Robinson worked out on the field with several teammates. He was not brought to media, either.

Giants brought out 1-2 players at a time and all media were allowed access to them. Were not granted access to the entire team.

Yes, Pugh said it is very similar to the one he ran at Syracuse.
The Cruz
Semipro Lineman : 4/22/2014 3:27 pm : link
quote was interesting. Supposedly one of the knocks against Marcelus Bennett was that he was difficult to read for a QB as in when was he going to make his break and similar stuff. (A huge reason why familiarity and "being in synth" stuff matters with early season workouts but that's a different tangent.)

OTOH, more reading for Eli doesn't mean less reading for the receivers so all you simplified guys don't have your wish just yet. :-p

Nice to learn there's a playbook.

Addition on what Pugh said. "Offense will be up-tempo, going to be moving the ball."
If I'm reading into this correctly

We will still run the ball but smashmouth is bye-bye?

Snee, Schwartz, Pugh all echoed that the running game is being installed right now, pass game hasn't been touched yet.

Pretty sure that zone-read or any zone blocking scheme doesn't count as smashmouth. Same with option packages,etc..

Yeah, I get the 'finesse' stigma attached to zone blocking, but I've never really agreed with it. It's still blocking. It's still 300 pound offensive linemen going up against defensive fronts and attacking.
Would a zone-blocking scheme help out a guy like Will Beatty more?
Simms11 : 4/22/2014 4:42 pm : link
he's more of a finesse type of guy and one that moves well.
Why can't we add both?
AnishPatel : 4/22/2014 4:45 pm : link
Our so called "smash mouth" football running concepts had both. One off the top of my head was the 49ers game at NYG, where Jacobs scored a 27 yarder I want to say for a TD. It was zone across the board.

We ran both, and I bet we'd probably run both again.
It's interesting Pugh has remarked the similarities to Syracuse
GiantTuff1 : 4/22/2014 5:07 pm : link
this sounds like it bodes well for Ryan Nassib.
The players are painting a far different picture then
ZogZerg : 4/22/2014 6:13 pm : link
Coughlin did, regarding the new O.
Offensive similarities to Syracuse...
Jimmy Googs : 4/22/2014 6:18 pm : link
high Wonderlic score, Eli threw 250 picks last season and now he is in a walking boot hobbling around...

Its all set up for Ryan "call me the next Tom Brady" Nassib.
