I am soooooooo glad the Yanks have Ellsbury
Stan from LA : 4/22/2014 8:58 pm : link
And the Sox don't.

What a player!
Farrell abused our future #3
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 8:58 pm : link
not cool. Nice answer for the Yanks, though.
Ramirez pitched in EST recently...
Dunedin81 : 4/22/2014 8:59 pm : link
so probably relatively soon. Burawa is dealing with an oblique issue as well but will probably take awhile.
JACOBY!
Dave in Hoboken : 4/22/2014 8:59 pm : link
(Damn, it appears I'm on delay by a minute or two)
The offense this year
Matt M. : 4/22/2014 9:01 pm : link
is about as balanced as it's been in a decade. Nice split of L, R, and S, regardless of who plays. Nice split of power and OBA. And Girardi is doing a great job resting guys/ keeping the bench fresh. I truly think this will be a special team.
Bryan Mitchell with another solid outing...

Phil - you better be kidding
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:01 pm : link
Lester should sign with the Dodgers. You know he isn't going to resign with the Sox. They don't believe in overpaying for talent and he is going to get paid.

Cap with a Jeterian Blast!

8-2
8-2.
WeatherMan : 4/22/2014 9:03 pm : link
after the back to back home runs that inning was Lucy pulling the football away. Good grief.
They should try to get Mitchell
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:03 pm : link
ready by July or August.
It'll be Lester or
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:04 pm : link
Scherzer or both next offseason.
i'd rather we sign Tanaka Jr. next year
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:06 pm : link
no more 30+ year olds with arms holding out for one last payday.
I wouldn't
MookGiants : 4/22/2014 9:09 pm : link
even consider Lester.

Scherzer I wouldn't want either. 30+ year olds long term deals as pitchers is not smart business.

Nice quick inning for knuckles
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:10 pm : link
settle in young man and get through 7 easy.
What I don't like about the back to backs
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:11 pm : link
was he did not get beat on his best pitch. McCann should have been calling more splits.
Is Maeda
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:12 pm : link
Tanaka junior? I was hearing he wasn't.
I was flipping over to the Ranger game
mfsd : 4/22/2014 9:12 pm : link
but it looked like Tanaka tried to cruise with all fastballs once he got a lead

Hopefully he's learned his lesson that you can't do that against the Sox at Fenway
both Darvish and now Tanaka
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:13 pm : link
throw at least 4-5 pitches almost evenly. It's beautiful to watch. That said, you do need to know what your money pitches are on any given night.

With Ortiz you throw the pitch that reminds him the least of cake.
I think he does what
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:13 pm : link
McCann calls for.

Same goes for McCann of course coming from he NL, he's not used to calling a Fenway game

the second HR looked like a hanging pitch to me whatever the call
Del Shofner : 4/22/2014 9:18 pm : link
was from McCann. But I get the point. That said, it's April and these guys are playing together for the first time at Fenway.
not Maeda
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:21 pm : link
just whomever is closest to fitting the Tanaka profile: mid-twenties, bulldog approach to pitching and ready for the big lights of NYC.
RP
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:23 pm : link
you'd have to invent him then, since Maeda is next up.
doesn't have to be from Japan
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:27 pm : link
another bad fastball high.
Beat again
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:27 pm : link
on not his best two strike pitch.
great split
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:30 pm : link
he sure doesn't overthrow it though.
Some great splitters
mfsd : 4/22/2014 9:30 pm : link
off Gomes right there

That's a strong 7 from Tanaka, and not even to 90 pitches yet
That was the
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:31 pm : link
6th inning.
Yup
mfsd : 4/22/2014 9:31 pm : link
my bad
i'll take your word on the 7 strong
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:32 pm : link
and hope you are right.
terrible game for Solarte at the plate
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:33 pm : link
he needs to turn that frown upside down!
Ichiro is raking
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:34 pm : link
he looks twice as good as last season both at the plate and in the field. I guess old guys play better with rest. Go figure.
Holt is going to play for the Sox for a long time
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:46 pm : link
he looks like a little shitburger. Fits like a glove.

Nice 7 for Tanaka.
hope Teix didn't hurt himself tagging not-Ellsbury
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:48 pm : link
he sure looked afraid when he reached out.
Hit 95 with the 4 seamer
Phil in LA : 4/22/2014 9:49 pm : link
in the 7th. Nice sign.
Beltran goes deep!
Dave in Hoboken : 4/22/2014 9:52 pm : link
9-2.
That was a bomb by
mfsd : 4/22/2014 9:52 pm : link
Beltran!
Save something for tomorrow
Dunedin81 : 4/22/2014 9:52 pm : link
!
Beltran
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:53 pm : link
man did he crush that one.

9-2

Makes me cry to think what he'd have been with us all these years. How many intelligent sports writers have gone on record as saying he is one of the best talents they've ever seen. How did someone not lock him down (KC, HOU, NYM, STL)?

there is always more to come.
more Tanaka-time
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 9:58 pm : link
lets get through here quickly.

Betances cued up for the no leverage innings.
and here comes
MookGiants : 4/22/2014 10:00 pm : link
the guy who can only pitch in a blowout!
well Tanaka is the best 4th starter
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 10:01 pm : link
in baseball.

Betances ready for 1.2 innings.
Tanaka did really well
dpinzow : 4/22/2014 10:01 pm : link
aside from the two solo shots in the 4th from Ortiz and Napoli...gave them almost nothing

2 BBs, 35 Ks in 4 starts (unreal)
how is this guy
WeatherMan : 4/22/2014 10:05 pm : link
the garbage time pitcher in your pen? He's got nasty stuff.
Dellin representing the Parade Ground in Brooklyn
Del Shofner : 4/22/2014 10:05 pm : link
- great to see him here. He grew up a Yankees fan.
Dellin says fuck you Fat Boy

Girardi has a man crush on David Phelps.
Good thing
MookGiants : 4/22/2014 10:06 pm : link
he's showing this stuff in a 7 run game. But don't worry, first sign of trouble tomorrow night and David Phelps will be there to save the day!
Ortiz fouled it off
RasputinPrime : 4/22/2014 10:06 pm : link
his paw. He'll feel that.

Betances K's PEDroia and Shrek.

That hook is nasty.
